Forage Ratings and Reviews
Another inventive and delicious meal at Forage. We are routinely surprised by new ingredients that their food and cocktail menu introduces us to. Seasonal, interesting, and always, always tasty. They were pretty busy on a Saturday night, and so it took a while to have our cocktail order taken, but after that, they were right back in the groove of offering excellent service and a wonderful dinner.
Everything was top notch. From the service, to the food, to the wine. We did the Omnivore tasting menu with wine pairing and loved every last bite and sip. Atmosphere is wonderful and staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Forage is such a gem. One of the best meals I have ever had was when they first opened about a year and a half ago. They did something magical with chrysanthemum greens, and they made an amazing lamb dish. Every time I go back, they continue to create great meals. I look forward to summer and going back to see what they will be conjuring up next.
I liked this restaurant a lot and look forward to returning soon / adding it to our rotation of regular faves. Food was excellent quality and wines by the glass were interesting and thoughtfully paired. Mussels portion is very large - almost a meal in itself.
The food at Forage was very tasty, local, and unique. My wife and I both had the tasting menu paired with wine and we both enjoyed it a lot. It ended up being about $100 per person and at that price level it's difficult to assess value. I really enjoyed that the tasting menu is not listed, so it could have been a complete surprise if we had not asked what was on it. It would be cool if Forage would go to the Hospitality-Included pricing that many upscale restaurants are going to these days.
Forage was especially odd, in that the food was so perfectly, consistently lacking in depth of flavor. This, to a degree that it was clearly purposeful; there's something zen that the chef is going for. While there were some strong flavors (vinegary pickled carrots and mushrooms, sea salt ice cream, turkey prosciutto), ultimately, nothing added up to anything delicious. There was little play with richness, umami, or savory, and many bites lacked proper seasoning or interplay between flavors.
Even the cocktails, though perfectly balanced, tasted... empty, almost as if they were watered down. Though I think- again, this was purposeful, because it was so utterly consistent (we tried 3 different cocktails which all thad this same character).
Forage is definitely a unique experience with a creative, risk-taking chef, putting together quirky dishes with unusual ingredients- things I usually love. Unfortunately, if you are expecting something... tasty... this is not the place.
The menu features local (New England) meats and produce prepared in original and tasty ways. The waitstaff share responsibility for all tables, so we were waited on by a number of charming, helpful people. The result was service that was attentive and timely but not intrusive.
What a delightful and relaxing dining experience! Forage has something for everyone. As a person with a serious gluten allergy who doesn't eat red meat, accompanied by a 20-year daughter who is vegan, I am accustomed to being apologetic when ordering food. It was so refreshing to have our waitress (who was the BEST waitress ever) tell us that vegan and GF were not a problem. My daughter and I each ordered from the tasting menu and were delighted with each new item we tasted. Subtle, but beautiful flavors in each and every bite. And they pace it so that it is a very relaxing evening and you never worry that you need to vacate the table for another customer. I wish I could eat there every week, but live an hour away. Oh, and I don't want to forget - fantasitic wine list. Fun and serious wines that you don't usually see.
Inventive, dazzling use of local vegetables and cheeses make for a dining adventure. Owner Stan and his chef and staff are passionate about Forage and we felt it in every detail: house made blackberry shrub (vinegar) in the cocktail, pickled zucchini purée drizzled on the thyme-roasted sweet potato, mycoterra mushroom pasta (!), and a divine cardamom rice pudding to finish. Heaven!
Service, food and ambiance were excellent. Fine dining and wines at a price that is not too dear. What a lovely lovely gem of a restaurant!!!! Their wine dinners on Tuesday cannot be beat -food and wine pairings for only $50. Plus, I go by myself and feel welcomed and comfortable doing so. I just adore this place!!!!
From the service to the food the entire experience was sublime. After taking the orders the waitress asked if there are any food allergies or intolerances the kitchen needs to be aware of. There was, and a rather unusual one, the waitress never flinched and the food issue was taken care of it on the spot.
Excellent food prepared with interesting and unusual ingredients. Cocktails are also finely crafted with interesting and unusual ingredients... So win-win on the entire meal. Definitely do not go with a picky eater and be open to trying new takes on classic meals.
A real gem!!!! Tucked away in the basement of a residential building, Forage is a wonderfully cozy place and offers incredible value. The food is outstanding - inventive yet very, very honest and tasty, nothing overly fancy that makes your eyes roll. They offer various tasting menu options including very attractive vegetarian ones. The quality of the seafood, meat, and produce all were outstanding, as were the wines (also a tasting menu option). Service is unpretentious yet cordial and attentive. Everything just perfect!
Wonderful place. It’s great to come to a place where the owners are so welcoming and happy to share their great food and wine. We have a number of food restrictions (celiac, dairy allergy, vegetarianism) that they were happy to accommodate. Both the food and the wine were fabulous. Our new favorite spot in a Cambridge.
Field & Vine is a new favorite for me. The smelts were especially good, and the house made butter lived up to the reviews. Nice job on the grilled beets too. The olive snacks alone are worth the visit. And special marks for that pot de creme. Really looking forward to coming back.
Forage was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The pickled vegetables and hanger steak were real stand outs. We sat at the bar and had a wonderfully kind and attentive bar tender. At one point, my date tipped over a plate and the staff was so quick to action that it was as if it had never even happened. A an excellent cozy basement spot for feeling protected from the elements this winter. Highly recommend!
We had a lovely 4 course Tuesday night Spanish-themed meal last night with friends. The food was lovely, well prepared and delicious, especially the lamb. Service was unobtrusive yet attentive. We all appreciated the wine pairings for each course which had obviously been chosen with care. What an incredible value for $49 a person--including wine! Highly recommend this restaurant.
The whole mean was delicious! I would highly recommend. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and they surprised us with a special dessert, a delicious cranberry sorbet. When we expressed how much we like the sorbet they brought out a second dessert and explained where the ingredients were sourced from. Just great!
