The bar program at Forage delivers classically crafted cocktails that have a focus on seasonal and locally produced ingredients. Forage also boasts a carefully curated and approachable collection of organic/biodynamic wines, and a selection of beer from independent and innovative breweries.
At the helm of Forage is owner/ general manager Stan Hilbert, chef Eric Cooper, and bar manager Joe Choiniere. The trio worked together for seven years at Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain.
Lovely meal at Forage. Everything we ate was delicious, and the portions were good-sized. The frozen dessert, Kracken, was the best. So glad we discovered this restaurant on Open Table. Definitely will return.
The quality of the food at Forage is light years beyond that at any other restaurant in the Boston metro area.
Fantastic service (thanks, Joe!) with excellent cocktails and very very good food. The mushroom sausage was outstanding, and the steak had perfect marbling and incredible flavor. We'll be back, maybe when there are more foraged mushrooms on the menu!
The staff was wonderful and the food was great and unique
I really enjoyed my meal at Forage. Both my husband and I ordered the vegetarian tasting menu, which was quite a lot of food for a tasting menu. Really inventive food, interesting taste combinations, an excellent dining adventure. The restaurant was really accommodating about our need to change the reservation; the space is small but convivial and the staff could not have been nicer. Definitely a place I’d return to.
This is a bit of a foodie haven. It's a small venue that has served as the home of a variety of adventurous pioneers. The larger "Craigie on Main" started here. A while ago it was a restaurant called appropriately "!2 Tables," (although there are 16 tables here now).
The last time I was here with my family, my son was not so enamored with stuff like garlic icecream, but I liked it - or at least the idea of it.
When we ate here on Friday night, the food wasn't quite that experimental, but it was unusual, with an emphasis on pickled vegetables and of course very fresh ingredients.
I had a fried bluefish which was crisp and excellent, but the most memorable dish for me was Mussels with fresh tomatoes - and it's hard to go wrong with good fresh tomatoes in August, but many restaurants don't seem to get the tasty ones. Forage does, and they could probably tell you where they get them. The mussels came from Maine.
I've never been disappointed by dinner/drinks at Forage!
I love the restaurant and will definitely return. The Jamaican night was a worthy effort. I wish Forage would do more ethnically inflected themes. But the spices were too muted to live up to the publicity
I have reviewed Forage in the past; this review is of the Jamaican dinner on August 6, 2019. The food at Forage is always a bit out of the ordinary; this meal was even more so. The flavors and combinations were mostly unexpected and thoroughly delicious. We ate every morsel of the jerked chicken and practically licked the plates. As always, Stan's wine pairings were brilliant; I don't think that all of the wines would go well with "ordinary" food but they paired beautifully with the spicy and complex Jamaican dishes. A memorable meal!
We were looking for a menu which could accommodate the desires of omnivores and vegetarians at a single table -- and Forage did that nicely. While some aspects of dishes were uneven (grilled zucchini with an entree was burnt on one side, underdone on the other on one plate at the table but more evenly cooked for another plate), the overall experience, service and enjoyment of the food was high. There is unevenness in the size of some servings (particularly the antipasti, which is more "table" than "personal" scale). Overall, it was a pleasant evening and well worth it.
Small, intimate, great vegan options, incredible blending of flavors.
Overall it was a nice experience. The ambience and food were very good. Most of the staff seemed very nice but unfortunately the lady waiting our table came across extremely unfriendly and kind of intimidating. She made us feel unwelcome. If we got a friendly waitress, we would totally give it a 5-star.
Wonderful organically grown local products in a fancy atmosphere. We loved it!
Absolutely phenomenal in every way.
So great! Pretentious yet unpretentious. Delicious. Best pork chop I’ve ever had. Will be returning soon!
Great! We had an experience not just a meal!
Cute vibe. Great drink options. Not enough parking, food was very salty.
Awesome. A true gem in Cambridge. Held a 12 person event that was great fun: tasty creative food, good wine, wonderful service. We will be back!
Awesome! Loved it! Had the tasting menu and was very impressed. Excellent service as well. Can’t recommend enough.
Good experience overall, but the 4 course vegetarian taster was underwhelming. First course was too heavy on vinegar and acidic, and the second course was neither cold nor hot. Lukewarm food is hard to pull off. Main course and dessert were both fantastic, but felt like it could have been better for the price.
Drinks, appetizers, and desserts were great. My main dish (pasta) was bland.
Their Tuesday 4-course wine pairing dinners are amazing! Great staff, amazing food and wine, love it there :)
Hosted a work colleague who is vegan and had a lovely time. Staff was informed on the menu and food preparation and the atmosphere was casual and inviting. Will definitely go again.
Second time going and enjoyed it immensely. Had the omnivore tasting menu and the cheese course and it was delicious. Ate the pork chops as leftovers and they were still great.
It’s a wonderful place to spend a nice long evening with a loved one. The service is great and unlike most restaurants it’s actually quiet enough that you don’t have to shout to be heard. You’re able to to take your time and savor everything.
Such great wines
Delicious food, wonderful combinations. The mussels were fresh and perfectly done. Chick pea thin bread delicious. In the fiddle head fern pasta inventive yummy vegetables, including sea beans (who knew?), and really good mushrooms. Excellent desserts.
The woman maitre de was short with me, but the owner and other staff made up for her curtness.
Beautiful food! I went for the vegetarian tasting menu aware that I was running the risk of receiving the omnivore option with a few omissions. Instead the courses were hearty and well balanced, the portions were generous and we were not left hungry in the slightest. The atmosphere was lovely - a slight buzz but quiet and intimate enough that conversation was not difficult. All in all, one of the best meals I have ever had and it is very easy to recommend forage unreservedly. Keep up the good work guys!
Small, quiet, intimate interior. Out of the hustle location. A perfect way to celebrate re-entry from a few weeks in the wild lands. Or if you want to be back. We had the most delicious meal and cocktails with a touch of nature feast for all our senses. They let us stagger choreograph our dishes building one shared dish upon another. Perfect waitstaff attitude, attention, and tempo. I will return.
Lovely, intimate spot. Vegetarian-friendly food. Great service.
The sommelier’s explanation of our wine pairing made the meal and experience exceptional. Can’t wait to go back.
A Cambridge favorite. Delicious, imaginative food, intimate ambiance, attentive service without being overbearing.
Amazing as always. Superior service and amazing food every time
We live in Vermont, but were in Cambridge for our anniversary. We booked dinner at Forage based on reviews online, looking for a nice place with vegan options. Our experience exceeded our expectations in every way. We ordered the chef‘s tasting menu, vegan style. Too often, vegan food falls into one of two categories. Either it is an attempt to replicate a non vegan meal, or it is so simple we could have easily made it at home None of the four courses at Forage fell into either of these traps. The ingredients were fresh, local, and in some cases foraged rather than farmed. The preparation emphasized subtle flavor combinations that were new to us and not trying to be anything other than delicious. Because our curiosity was aroused, we greatly enjoyed the engaged and enthusiastic staff, who clearly have fun developing the offerings and are eager to share what they have learned and loved. We left feeling a little sad that we don’t live closer. We would be regulars for sure. As it is, we are planning a return trip as soon as we can.
Our family of four had a spectacular dinner. We shared the plumpest mussels we've ever had. One kid got the 4 course vegan, one got the 4 course veggie, one pork entree and one pappardelle. The menu changes a lot based on what's in season. We love going to nice places that go out of their way with creative vegan options for the 1 vegan in the family.
And the sides for the meat dish were just as interesting. (Pickled sweet potatoes, among many other touches). The staff couldn't be nicer. Great drinks and wine as well. We'll go back!
I hate parking in Cambridge. I hate driving to Cambridge. Truth be told I kinda hate Cambridge BUT Forage is totally worth the trip! Simply the most creative cuisine I've experienced in forever. You can taste the thought that went into every roasted vegetable. Wait staff was knowledgeable, patient and attentive without the patronizing banter. Love it. Will return.
My family and I went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had an amazing time from start to finish. We did the wine pairing with dinner, and enjoyed all of it thoroughly. The staff were very friendly and attentive and completely accommodated my two younger children, who I had to add on to the reservation at the last minute. The owner even brought out crayons and markers so that they could draw while my husband and I finished our meal. Will definitely be going back soon!
Awesome, delicious, creative and worth every penny!
Always absolutely outstanding. Lovely people, delicious and different food, ethos of local, vegetable-heavy food. No tricks, just great.
The mussels, salad and steak were quite bland and under seasoned. The salads/mussels came before the appetizer pickle plate. The staff apologized and gave it to us complimentary. The bluefish was excellent. Socca devoured by vegetarian daughter, but portion small and grilled carrot basically raw. Pickles all tasted the same, not much variety.
