The bar program at Forage delivers classically crafted cocktails that have a focus on seasonal and locally produced ingredients. Forage also boasts a carefully curated and approachable collection of organic/biodynamic wines, and a selection of beer from independent and innovative breweries.
At the helm of Forage is owner/ general manager Stan Hilbert, chef Eric Cooper, and bar manager Joe Choiniere. The trio worked together for seven years at Ten Tables in Jamaica Plain.
Our team was in Boston for one night and I wanted to treat my colleagues to an experience. The Forage Team delivered in spades and even was gracious when we called to say we’d be a bit late for our reservation. This is a gem and not-to-be missed delight!
Amazing option for vegetarians. On mondays they do meatless Monday with a 6 course pre-fix menu. I got the heirloom tomatoes salad and the chickpea socca. The socca was excellent, would definitely recommend and was very filling. Nice wine list as well
On the expensive side, so would recommend this for a date night or special occasion, but I will definitely be back for the delicious food and modern, cozy ambiance
This was absolutely one of the best dining experiences in Boston. Went for a birthday, and the entire staff was so accommodating and the food was delicious!
A quiet, unassuming place in a leafy residential neighborhood. Small and personal - but great attention to details and superb service. The food was delicious and there were ample choices for the vegetarians in our midst...
Absolutely incredible experience. One of the best meals we have ever had, paired with amazing service. Words do not describe how much I recommend this place.
Fantastic service and delicious drinks. I think the space is really cozy and intimate. A lot of interesting concepts on the menu; especially as far as the drink program goes. The dinner menu looked really exciting but delivery was meh. Overall feedback from the table was "all show, no go". Flavoring was off and at some points not even there. I realize they just opened so possibly working out some kinks in menu development? I would not recommend to friend without a disclaimer. I will definitely give it another go in a few months to see if the experience is any better. Chocolate Nemesis dessert was on point!
This gem of a restaurant was absolutely outstanding, with what could be the best cuisine I’ve had in the area. We got the vegetarian and vegan tasting 4 course menu with a wine pairing, and the food was delicious, beautiful, and the courses were well thought out. We learned so much about the wines that were brought, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. We loved it.
We had the tasting menu which overlaps with the regular offering. Everything was either good or very good. The selection of ingredients and the preparation reflect the skills of a chef who cares about customer experience. Our waitress made us feel like they were happy we came (it was our first time). We are definitely coming back soon.
One of my favorite restaurants! I love the fresh local produces and creative cooking. One of the few restaurants around Boston that offers refined dining vegan options. Service is excellent, you can tell everyone at Forage is passionate and knowledgeable about what is being created in the kitchen. Small space and cozy ambiance.
Quality of food as well as the choice of wine to pair have surpassed the past records of this neighborhood gem where we have been going for years. Serving staff including our sommelier are courteous and attentive.
Nice service and terrific bread and olive oil for the table. We had the vegetarian 4-course menu. The first two courses proved excellent: a gazpacho and a mushroom salad, both fresh and inventive. This was let down somewhat for me, however, by the main (a tofu dish) and the cheese plate that proved disappointingly meagre and uninteresting, with a couple of miniscule slices of something which appeared to be cheddar, accompanied by odds and ends. Others had the chocolate dessert, which seemed better value.
I very much enjoyed the mussels with bergamot - unusual and delicious. The fried haddock was fresh, but sauce was a bit scant. The accompanying buckwheat pan bread was tasty and earthy, but a little bit goes a long way. Service was attentive and wine selections were few but good choices. A good choice for a quiet evening with friends.
Incredible food and service. The ingredients are some of the freshest I've had in Cambridge.
My second visit there and the food and service just continues to be amazing! I will be bringing friends as often as possible.
Interesting place. Love the concept and overall, great cocktails and food.
The food was interesting and delicious. We were there early and appreciated the quiet (and great background music) but as the room filled there was a delightful buzz of happy people enjoying great food.
We are sorry it too us so long to get to Forage.
Wonderful restaurant. Small so tables are close together so be prepared to have to work hard to concentrate on your date while your loud neighbor gets his brag on. Perhaps our position in the corner kept us out of the eye of our server. Seemed like ages to catch her eye and refresh drinks or get the check.
Tasting menu is always a great choice, along with the wine pairing.
We were lucky to get a table at the last minute and had not anticipated how wonderful our experience would be. Tired after a long day, we were just happy to sit and relax. Right off we felt very welcomed and each found a delightful beverage to start off the evening. The menu was filled with intriguing choices and we each found our favorites with help from our friendly and very informed, capable server. The heirloom tomato appetizer alone was with worth the price of admission - red, yellow and green, they were fabulous, every bite bursting with flavor. The bread (from Iggy's) was sensational, especially with the pungent EVOO offered us. Our entrees were superb - each of us raving about our choices: skirt steak and brined & grilled pork chop - surrounded by super-fresh veggies and sides. We literally cleaned our plates! Full and deeply satisfied, we shared the blueberry dessert with peach ice-cream - the perfect ending to a perfect dinner and Forage experience.
Amazing, as always!
We eat at Forage regularly. We think the Rose dinner might have been one of the best meals ever!
Lovely tasting menu. Well paired funky and delicious biodynamic wines. Staff and kitchen are very accommodating of food preferences and intolerances.
Very interesting and delicious menu choices. The pork chop, bluefish, and the Scottish frozen dessert were to die for. The restaurant is a little gem tucked into a residential neighborhood. A foodie’s delight!
Consistently great service and food. A fun dining experience. And the innovative cocktails based on seasonal ingredients are a must!
Excellent food and beverages - really appreciated that they let some of us do the tasting menu even though some at our table opted out. Wine parings were great, and the pours were generous.
Adult kids home from college and going back soon.
We love this place and come here often. Everyone is so incredible, engaged, and attentive and the food is fantastic.
Lovely meal at Forage. Everything we ate was delicious, and the portions were good-sized. The frozen dessert, Kracken, was the best. So glad we discovered this restaurant on Open Table. Definitely will return.
The quality of the food at Forage is light years beyond that at any other restaurant in the Boston metro area.
While we experienced very nice service we were quite disappointed with the food. For instance some pumpkin greens soaking in oil and rather chewy served as sides.
Or very salty and dry vegetarian sausage.
Fantastic service (thanks, Joe!) with excellent cocktails and very very good food. The mushroom sausage was outstanding, and the steak had perfect marbling and incredible flavor. We'll be back, maybe when there are more foraged mushrooms on the menu!
The staff was wonderful and the food was great and unique
I really enjoyed my meal at Forage. Both my husband and I ordered the vegetarian tasting menu, which was quite a lot of food for a tasting menu. Really inventive food, interesting taste combinations, an excellent dining adventure. The restaurant was really accommodating about our need to change the reservation; the space is small but convivial and the staff could not have been nicer. Definitely a place I’d return to.
This is a bit of a foodie haven. It's a small venue that has served as the home of a variety of adventurous pioneers. The larger "Craigie on Main" started here. A while ago it was a restaurant called appropriately "!2 Tables," (although there are 16 tables here now).
The last time I was here with my family, my son was not so enamored with stuff like garlic icecream, but I liked it - or at least the idea of it.
When we ate here on Friday night, the food wasn't quite that experimental, but it was unusual, with an emphasis on pickled vegetables and of course very fresh ingredients.
I had a fried bluefish which was crisp and excellent, but the most memorable dish for me was Mussels with fresh tomatoes - and it's hard to go wrong with good fresh tomatoes in August, but many restaurants don't seem to get the tasty ones. Forage does, and they could probably tell you where they get them. The mussels came from Maine.
I've never been disappointed by dinner/drinks at Forage!
I love the restaurant and will definitely return. The Jamaican night was a worthy effort. I wish Forage would do more ethnically inflected themes. But the spices were too muted to live up to the publicity
I have reviewed Forage in the past; this review is of the Jamaican dinner on August 6, 2019. The food at Forage is always a bit out of the ordinary; this meal was even more so. The flavors and combinations were mostly unexpected and thoroughly delicious. We ate every morsel of the jerked chicken and practically licked the plates. As always, Stan's wine pairings were brilliant; I don't think that all of the wines would go well with "ordinary" food but they paired beautifully with the spicy and complex Jamaican dishes. A memorable meal!
We were looking for a menu which could accommodate the desires of omnivores and vegetarians at a single table -- and Forage did that nicely. While some aspects of dishes were uneven (grilled zucchini with an entree was burnt on one side, underdone on the other on one plate at the table but more evenly cooked for another plate), the overall experience, service and enjoyment of the food was high. There is unevenness in the size of some servings (particularly the antipasti, which is more "table" than "personal" scale). Overall, it was a pleasant evening and well worth it.
Small, intimate, great vegan options, incredible blending of flavors.
Overall it was a nice experience. The ambience and food were very good. Most of the staff seemed very nice but unfortunately the lady waiting our table came across extremely unfriendly and kind of intimidating. She made us feel unwelcome. If we got a friendly waitress, we would totally give it a 5-star.
