Tuesday wine dinners are great! Innovative pairings match the food to a tee and the service is knowledgable and very friendly.
I'm loathe to share but the Tuesday night wine dinners really are exceptional value given the quality of the food and drink. I'm consistently impressed by the balance the restaurant achieves between the food and wine.
I was heading in with high expectations, and the smoked cashew soup was incredible and I was highly hopeful--however, the rest of the tasting menu slowly declined until dessert which was better. I was disappointed by the main dish of sweet potatoes, being served burned and as a meal. This was shocking after such a well developed flavor in their soup. I will love to come back, but I feel that that the creativity that is clearly there from appetizer to desert needs to come through in the main dish.
All wonderful food, drinks, service, and ambiance, but the main dish of roasted squash that we shared was either undercooked or a bit dried out. Was hoping for a soft, creamy roasted squash but it was tough and hard to break up even with a fork and knife. Otherwise, the food was fantastic.
The food and drink is thoughtful and delicious. There is a nice mix of classics and adventurous elements. I had the 4-course omnivore menu and the highlights for me were the charcuterie and steak courses.
The lapsang souchong kombucha and zero-proof mint cocktail were also lovely.
Service was attentive.
I'd recommend a reservation on a Saturday night.
We had the delicious tasting menu with the wine parings. The food, service, and wine were all outstanding.
Creative menu, delicious and surprising. Superb, attentive service as always. It’s a gem!
We went to the Spanish Wine Dinner and it was superb.
We enjoyed the food and the service. It is definitely worth repeating.
Very delicious food, friendly service and cozy vibe. Definitely will come back again!
Excellent dinner, food was tasty with interesting combinations. 2 tasty and well crafted cocktails. Excellent coffee pot du creme, with tangerine curd. Great winter restaurant- snug, low noise level for easy conversation. A little hard to find, and limited parking but great place if you are in the area, or able to walk a block or two to find street parking. Would return, service was friendly and attentive, but they forgot a dish and a few other small issues but manager was great about it.
We were there for NYE and it was a very pleasant and cozy space to be. Although it was a very busy night the staff were very kind and personable. We enjoyed our choices (pasta papardelle with mushrooms and parmesan and steak/sausage, plus vegan appetizers) though the main dish for me, pasta, was on the salty side. Big hearty main portions and nice vega lemon dessert.
Service was fantastic but food was awful and horrifically overpriced
My wife and I had an early New Years Eve dinner here that left us stuffed and more than satisfied with the delicious variety of the offerings. The portions were enormous and delicious. Everything arrived at the perfect temperature, with the correct utensils, and appropriate accoutrements. The service was as warm and friendly as always. I also had the wine pairings, which greatly added to the tasty nature of the experience. The optional cheese course was to die for. The chocolate dessert was heavenly. Frankly, the value was unbelievably good for such a superb restaurant. Forage really made us feel like a king and a queen at a royal banquet. Go to Forage!!
Excellent unique preparations. Cozy atmosphere.
There has always been an excellent restaurant at this location on Craigie Street. Forage continues the tradition. It always thrills me to walk down those three stairs, through the curtains and enter a world that hasn’t existed for decades. Quality service, quality atmosphere, and quality food. What can you say when everything is just what you want it to be for a nice evening.
Forage has done one thing not done before. The acoustics are fixed. Each table at Forage feels quiet and private
If there is one thing I would fix it would be to have a traditional dish for cautious eaters. When each dish is an exploration then it’s hard to bring grandpa or grandchild.
We enjoyed our meal very much.
Went to Forage for a date night while passing through the city. They had a great wine selection, I loved the decor/design as it was very cozy, our server was very attentive and the food was delicious! My only suggestion is that for the appetizer to add a couple more slices of beets/cheese. I would definitely come back here next time I am on Cambridge even if it was just to stop at the bar to try a different wine!
Innovative vegan food. The tasting menu is pretty spread out so if you have show tickets make sure you tell them or do not order the tasting menu.
So So So GOOD! Best vegetarian meal!! Everything was outstanding!
Nice atmosphere - waiter forgot tasting menu courses and needed to go check with the kitchen when asked, none of the food flavors was interesting- completely fine to eat, but for the price it needed to taste better.
Delightful little restaurant in Cambridge, serving cozy dinners centered on local farms and fisheries. Everything is deliciously prepared with with lots of vegetables and flair, accompanied by a fascinating selection of wine, beer, and ciders from unusual small wineries and presses, with many biodynamic choices -- and the sommelier has a story to tell about each one!
Forage was a great place to have a wide-ranging set of dishes, well thought out and executed, with options for every eater. Went there on a quiet evening with a guest who is vegan. I had the omnivore and she the vegan tasting menu - four courses each. Very reasonable, and very reasonably priced.
Comments on courses: vegan bangers and mashed was really well thought out and perfectly created. Mashed was light and surrounded by mushroom sausages and a broth. Super tasty. Mussels on the omnivore course were really well cooked and HUGE - tomato broth was really flavorful and perfectly seasoned. Pork course for the third on the omni portion was well proportioned and cooked, slightly pink in the center, and with a great butter leak side. These were all very well thought out and executed dishes, as were the desert and the fish terrine (though it could use some acid beyond the side).
Food: Top notch, very enjoyable.
Portions: ENORMOUS for a tasting menu. It was like four full dinner courses delivered to the table in full scale, not a smaller portion of the "normal" size. The food was great, but there was a lot of it. Started slowing down in the middle of the entree sized portion of mussels knowing there was a main and desert coming soon. They can back off on the size of things and focus on the amazing flavors - I'd rather leave a little hungry rather than sad I couldn't finish it all - and be insulting to the chef that came up with this menu!
Not a lot of reviews say: give us less food. But this one does because what I did get was awesome, and I'd have been just as happy with less.
Very tight quarters which is good if you like intimate but felt a little too close to the table behind me. It's in the basement so no views. Service staff was very friendly, helpful and seemed to work well together. We had about five different people wait on us. Biggest criticism was that they brought me the wrong dish. What they brought out was my second option and my girlfriend was starving so I decided not to say anything. I really wanted the lighter meal (catfish) but had the pumpkin pasta instead.
All in all, a decent experience. Friendly, attentive service and good food but not really a "wow" experience for me. Had a hard time getting past the fact that they didn't deliver what I ordered.
We were visiting Boston and came here because a friend suggested it. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent! We had the pickled
Creative cuisine that incorporates local produce and locally raised beef. Truly a unique restaurant that meets both vegetarian and omnivore diets. The menu is always interesting and great flavors.
Two of us went to Forage for a special fixed menu dinner with wine pairings. My guest described the restaurant as her favorite in Cambridge after this occasion. The meal was spectacular. The wines were wonderful. The service was fantastic. We happily passed away three hours while dining without feeling as if time had passed at all. It's a small, cozy restaurant with a friendly, helpful staff that serves very interesting food. Go there!
Forage has reliably interesting and tasty cuisine. The wine selections and pairings when offered are described lovingly and well priced. Highly recommended.
I took a group of 10 to Forage - which seems like a tough proposition since the locale is quite small - but it worked beautifully. We happened to be there for a Loire Valley wine and dinner prix fix, which was amazing. There are many such services during the year, and this one had so many delicious pairings that everyone around the table agreed were outstanding. The service included the manager who was sommelier among other things, the attentiveness of the whole staff was an added delight. Thanks! and we will be back.
We had the pre-fixed Vegetarian options. Some unusual preparations, but all were exquisite, and paired with excellent wine tastings. We were so impressed that we added on a gift certificate for a foodie friend of ours, who we think will love it, too.
This is a restaurant that focuses as much on their sourcing of ingredients as they do on the quality of the dishes prepared; all top notch. The menu is inventive and the dishes wonderfully complex in flavors and preparation. Portions are generous. Excellent bar with many small batch or artisan distiller products. Thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Unfortunately there was nothing outstanding about either the food or the service. The ambience is very nice, but for the price I expect a little more polish and impressiveness in the food and service.
Great night at the Bar at Forage. Food was great. Wines and cocktails really interesting and the owner & bar tender enthusiastic, entertaining and attentive. We’ll be back.
Forage had very good, locally sourced, tasty food. Mussels and especially the tomato broth was incredible as was chicken and Thai fish dish. The wait staff was properly trained and attentive and floor manager of highest quality for service and customer related attention. They even offered a nice complimentary lovely homemade ice cream as a happy ending after we decide to forego dessert. The main issue of night is the seating is very close and after arriving at 6:45 a couple seated next to us had a 7 month old that screamed and squirmed throughout our dinner. Rather than realizing how disruptive the child was, the new parents continued on with their dinner assuming the rest of us were perfectly accepting of their baby's struggle and its obvious requests and need to go home for rest. Always unfortunate for patrons, staff, and even clueless parents when trying to eat formally in a very nice and intimate restaurant. Obviously, nothing the establishment could really do as trying to show level of tolerant for their patrons, but kind of imposing on what could have been a GREAT evening date night. We raised to children. Took them to restaurants but knew to go to the earliest seating and leave (at least one of us) when baby is unhappy or stressed. We pre-planned and had exit strategy if evening soured with jr. I think these parents and others would be better served to pick a different style of restaurant for their Friday night outings or have a quick hook and plan to leave if baby goes south after a long work week for all. Good Luck Forage and probably best to pay closer attention with customer with infants and very young children and to be sure and ask clients if they mind being seated next to a baby for their Friday night - after 7pm dinners as we would have been happy to be seated elsewhere though we know you didn't have many options given busy night.
First time- 2 of the 4 of us are gluten-free and vegan- several unique and different options that were well received- we had a lovely evening- staff- food- noise level- great for dates- romantic dining- or the hard of hearing. We will be back.
A friend and I both had the special Tuesday wine menu, which was great fun and a wonderful value. Although one of the five wines I found off-putting, even that was a beautiful failure (an exotic gem that just wasn’t to my liking). The person who served as sommelier (whom I think may be a co-owner) freely shared his knowledge without being pretentious or overbearing. The food was simple but inventive (including, for example, lightly cured Arctic char served with julienned celery root). This is a terrific neighborhood spot with a funky vibe.
Great meal--it made us which we had tried out Forage sooner. Roast parsnip was great, really inventive, with a wonderful marmalade and sheep cheese on toasts. Hanger steak was terrific, with a tasty kale side. Overall, a great experience--we'll definitely be going again!
Had high expectations based on reviews. We had tasting menus and overall disappointed in quality of main dishes, amount of food in dishes and the wait in between courses was unacceptable, they felt so sorry they poured us a free glass of wine. That ruined the experience. In addition the little things like the person taking our plates and silverware between courses dropped them twice, they laid the silverware out wrong (a bit anal, but details are what make good restaurants) and we hardly saw our waitress. Would not go back. Would have been 2 stars but price for number of courses was good.
Just okay. Appetisers were hard to pass around
Flavor combinations were unexpected and delicious- like mussels in Sherry and parsnip marmalade. Outstanding food and lovely service.
It was awesome. As Always stan and Eric are amazing
