Food 101 Ratings and Reviews
We had a great time having a drink at the bar before sitting down for our dinner. We loved the wine list and the atmosphere. However, once we sat down for dinner, we were served by one of the most rude waitresses we have encountered. She gave one member of our party a hard time for asking if a meal could be prepared gluten free. After delivering our food she never asked if it was good or asked if we wanted more drinks. She just walked by and dropped the check on the table. I'm not sure if we saw her smile once. Additionally, the duck breast was as tough as a bad steak and the swordfish pieces were tiny. We used to really like this restuarant so hopefully this was just a bad experience.
Our reservation was for 7:00pm on New Years Eve and we were promptly seated. Initally we were seated in the back room which was also occupied by a very large and very loud group. As soon as the server realized we were having trouble hearing her we were immediatly moved to a booth int he main dining room. From there on everything was perfect. The Grilled Scallops with the apple/sweetpotato has was amazing. I will definately be back!!
My husband and I dined at Food101 for New Year's Eve. We had the four course prix fix menu with optional wine pairings. It was expensive quite expensive, but a nice treat. Most of the selections were great, a couple were just OK. I didn't care for two of the white wine pairings, but I am partial to reds. The service was fantastic, food was interesting, and we enjoyed trying some local picks.
We had the last seating for Thanksgiving. The first thing our waiter said to us was that he was exhausted and then proceeded to tell us what they had already run out of. We had reservations so it appears they should have been prepared to serve their guests. Throughout the courses of our meal. We discovered other menu items that they ran out of that the server failed to mention. Cooking dinner myself would have been more pleasant which is what I'll do next year.
Very disappointed they had run out of menu items that were listed. Even more disappointed we were charged for a menu in which not all items were avaliable. We should've received a price adjustment or some type of compensation. Food was good from what was left to choose from.
This was our first time to visit Food 101 and this was on Thanksgiving Day. We were extremely disappointed in the food. The turkey was not done, the brussel spouts were raw and contrary to how the Thanksgiving menu appeared, the chef picked the dessert you could have. Two of the side items we had with lunch were ok but overall, the food was not good. For the price of the Thanksgiving meal, this was the worst experience we have ever had when eating out on Thanksgiving.
When we walked in, I was impressed by the decor. Because it's in a strip mall, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. My husband and I went for brunch and both ordered the cajun omelet which was slightly different than I expected. The tomatoes were canned and I'm pretty sure the okra had been previously frozen. The omelet was made with 2 eggs, which was disappointing because we were hungry. They were stingy on the fillings, but it was flavorful. The service was good. I'd definitely give this place another try.
The restaurant would have been perfect if the service hadn't been uneven. We had a birthday dinner, they brought the birthday cake but didn't ask anybody else for a quite awhile if they wanted dessert or coffee. The ice cream on the birthday plate was completely melted byt he time the rest arrived.
Wow. We have gone to Food 101 a lot as it is in our neighborhood. I can't even begin to explain how it has gone downhill. We never send food back anywhere but had no choice but to send 1 dish back 2 times and 1 dish 1 time. It was not cooked. We were advised they had some people call out sick or something and they were struggling to provide correct service. I understand things happen but please be sure you are at least cooking something. Better to be overdone then under. Really surprised even that aside our last couple of trips to Food 101 it is obvious it is on a downward spiral. I won't be surprised if it closes in 2012.
This is my second time at the restaurant, and although it was a bit busier this time around the food and quality of service were still stellar and impressive. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was just as fresh and delicious as I remembered. I'll definitely be back again.
Don't go when they are changing over the menu or after 9pm because half the things on the menu aren't available. And no one warned us initially that the items weren't available; they waited until after we had decided what to order. I ordered trout and was brought swordfish, which isn't that big a deal, but no one told me , the apparently they had run out of trout, so when it came out I thought it was the wrong order and sent it back. Then the waiter came over and said no one had told him they were out of trout. Luckily I like swordfish better than trout, but it's an avoidable mistake. And if many menu items aren't available, then bring out a chalk board or temporary menu or tell the diners BEFORE they make up their minds.
My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night, relatively early because we had other plans later in the evening. I had the rainbow trout which I thought was excellent. My husband had the 3-meat meatloaf which he also enjoyed. We tried each others' entrees and could easily have switched since we both like what the other had ordered. The food was excellent, very interesting and the portions appropriate. Our wait person was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Great atmosphere. Would definitely eat there again.
They were out of steak when we visited- one of the primary reasons we chose Food 101. My fiance` had the scallops, but said that she had better scallops elsewhere. They were accommodating though, with substitutions, which I always appreciate. There are so many other places to eat in Atlanta, we probably won't go back simply for the opportunity to have a new experience elsewhere. I guess you really can't afford not to make that first impression a really lasting one!
I had high hopes for brunch at Food 101, since I love their lunch and the brunch menu looked great. However, the brunch was just ok. I had their famous chicken biscuit and honestly would have rather had a chicken biscuit from chick-fil-a. Others at my table had waffles, shrimp and grits, and other meals and they felt the same. Maybe we are spoiled in Atlanta since there are so many fantastic brunch places but this one was marginal at best. Service was good but I won't go back.
