Steakhouse
Fonz’s is a locally founded restaurant that has been a cornerstone of Manhattan Beach for the last 20 years. Started in 1997 by Olympic volleyball legend, Mike Dodd, and entrepreneur Dan Boehle, the restaurant was recently purchased by a group of local residents in an effort to keep their favorite Manhattan Beach landmark in place.

The look of the restaurant has been updated and chef Margarito Garcia, while keeping the bones of the traditional menu in place, has added many new, innovative dishes. The caring staff, led by manager Nancy Mason-Reynolds, welcome regulars and new visitors with open arms and are there to ensure everyone has the best possible dining experience. Whether it be steaks or seafood, Fonz’s serves only the highest quality for the greatest value in the South Bay.

Come visit the new Fonz’s and experience Manhattan Beach hospitality at it’s best!

Excellent overall menu with delicious seafood, steaks and lamb. Their specials just add to the excellent variety so that everyone in our party is very excited in their selection. This is one of my go-to places for out of town business guests and have never been disappointed. It’s quiet enough for a good conversation for work colleagues or date night. Go on a Tuesday and they have a bunch of wines for half price!

What an amazing gem! We have been to Manhattan Beach a number of times but have never seen the restaurant. The food was spectacular and the wine list was great. The service was wonderful - we were treated as locals and it had a warm feeling about it. The staff was attentive and seemed genuinely interested in our experience. We will be back the next time we are in town for sure!

Small restaurant, good food. Can get quite loud in there. Nice selection of menu items, with many items being quite reasonable. Dinner portions were ample, and we didn't leave hungry. Only charged corkage on second bottle that we brought, which was quite a deal. Would recommend.

Service was good and management checked in several times to make sure we were okay. The whole staff was extremely polite and accommodating. Wine selection by the glass was varied with several high quality options for multiple varietals.

Unfortunately the food was terrible. My wife and I had the ribeye, which was stringy, chewy, and drowning in some sort of sweet spicy glaze. Sides were uninteresting calorie bombs. Lighting in the restaurant is depressing fluorescents. Multiple large TVs are unavoidable from most seating. As a bar that also serves food, this place isn't bad. As a restaurant to be taken seriously, much less a steakhouse, it's unacceptable.

This place was amazing, the food was delicious. I had The filet minion pasta with chipotle sauce and it was incredible. My husband had the rib eye! Service was awesome and the manager was very accommodating. Their specials for the night seemed as big as the regular menu, I wanted to try a lot of them. Turns out they keep the specials going for a week and then switch them. We are going back this week so I can try one of the specials I wanted to order! Definitely a place to try! Also the bar has TVs and high top seating as an option. It has a quaint beach downtown feeling where the locals go.

This was our first visit to Fonz's. We went there on the Saturday night following Valentine's Day. At 6:30 PM, we had an easy time parking on the street, paid the meter, and were promptly seated. The restaurant was a little less than half full (by the time we left, it was 100% full). We sat inside, although they offered outside heated seating and "high-top" seating in the bar. Maybe on a warming even we'll try sitting outside.

Our server was great, attentive, and unobtrusive, and was right on with his recommendation of the Acumen Cabernet Sauvignon; a little pricey but suitable for a special occasion and was tastefully dry.

We split The Fonz's Salad and the 16 oz Rw’s Rib-Eye. We got separate plates without any split charges (nice!). The salad, with kale, quinoa, and avocado, was wholesome and tasty. The wine matched perfectly with our rib-eye. The rib-eye comes with creamed spinach and cauliflower au gratin. Since we're not big fans of cauliflower, we substituted it with their wasabi mashed potatoes, which tasted great with the rib-eye. I am not a big fan of steak sauces, but the sweet Bourbon sauce was incredible and accentuated an excellent cut of aged beef. (I'm still thinking about over a full week later.) The creamed spinach's sauce was surprisingly light, and the added bits of bacon made it the best creamed spinach I've ever had.

We finished with the Brownie Pie, which is described as a "chocolate lover’s fantasy. chewy and warm." This is the only thing I wouldn't recommend. I'm a big chocolate fan and like things sweeter than most, but this was too sweet for me. Nevertheless, we were fully impressed with Fonz's, and have plans to return. We want to next try the 14 Oz Prime Aged New York, then later "revisit" :-) the 16 oz Rw’s Rib-Eye. Reservations were easy with OpenTable for a busy Saturday night (made one week in advance).

Had the filet mignon and the seafood risotto. Both were excellent, along with the wonderful bottle of chardonnay offered to us at half price! On Valentine's Day! When a lot of restaurants jack up their prices! The servers were all friendly and attentive. We did not expect our request for a larger table to be met on such a busy night, but they happily complied. We also asked if we could switch out one of the vegetables. Also no problem. Outstanding!!!

I was very disappointed in the food that was served. We ordered the medallions in the portobello mushroom as an appetizer. The medallions were grizzly undercooked and fatty. The Portabella mushroom was good with the sauce being the best part. We ordered the special lemon caper Halibut and the lamb chops. The halibut was salty and the lamb chops were overcooked and tough. We ordered key lime pie and lava cake for dessert. The key lime pie tasted like lemon meringue the lava cake was dry. Overall I would give the food a one star rating. We were very disappointed and will most likely not come back to Fon we ordered Keylime pie and lava cake for dessert. The Keylime pie tasted like lemon meringue the lava cake was dry. We decided to try Fonz's for the 1st time on NY's Eve. My husband ordered a mixed green salad which he said was DELICIOUS! We decided to splurge and each ordered 1b lobster tails served on a bed of roasted vegy's. We were really disappointed as they were very tough. Didn't want to complain b/c we did eat most of it...but it was a struggle. The roasted vegy's were very good.

I can see why this is a neighborhood favorite. The host and servers are great. We will definitely come back and try something a little less fussy!

I can’t even begin to describe what an absolute delight it was to dine at Fonz’s tonight. The food was spectacular and the service- our server was Sean - he was more of a butler!! He was polished yet approachable, charming, friendly, funny and knew everything and anything we ask him. Though the setting is very informal the quality is stratospherically beyond anything you can imagine when you walk through the door as a visitor to the area!! There’s a bar with bar stool dining seats and a standard seating area. The game was on, and there were guests in flip flops and beach shorts. This restaurant is a true reflection of the standard residents often yearn for locally but could never find. Fonz’s changed the game!! Everything tasted fresh and was served hot!! You can really tell all the staff are proud of each and everything on the menu, they were smiley and helpful- stopped to chat to locals and regulars which just made me feel more and more at home. I will definitely be back - with friends too. Thanks for such a fantastic night.
