Fondue Cowboy Ratings and Reviews
I love going to Fondue Cowboy. This was my second experience there. The food is wonderful and delicious, however the service really stands out. We got great recommendations on food and wine and a very attentive staff. I have gone there for a date night or a girls night and it worked out for both. Highly recommend if you are looking for something cozy and fun.
Went with 2 friends for dinner. I wouldn't really call this a good dinner place but more of a place to grab apps or quick bite. Fondue was good but a little odd. The accoutrements that came with the fondue: olives, pickles, melon, broccoli ...huh? They also brought bread chunks and potatoes. It was ok but just odd. Cheese covered pickles? Everything is better with cheese but this was kind of pushing it.
Be warned that there is only beer and wine. They do have wine based cocktails. I was skeptical but they turned out to be good. However, the server kept comparing them to the actual "hard stuff". "if you like tequila you should try X or If you like rum you should try Y". They were good but wine just doesn't taste like tequila or rum.
Our server was fantastic. Really personable and attentive but not overly intrusive.
It was a fun little place but just need to come in with the right expectations.
The three cheese fondues we had amongst our group of 6 all tasted very similar which was a little disappointing and I would have enjoyed a wider array of vegetables to dip but other than that it was great. We nearly didn't get the milk chocolate fondue for dessert (we also had the white chocolate) and I'm glad we did as it was my favorite item. I also really liked the drinks selection. I had the mango moscato and there were a couple of cocktails I liked the look of which is unusual for me since I prefer sweet fruity drinks and those don't seem to be in vogue at the moment. Over all I'd say not was very good but not amazing.
As always, the staff goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcome and ensure a fantastic evening. Tonight the restaurant had both large and small groups occupying tables, each with their own dynamic and ambience. The staff seamless keeps the coziness feeling for the romantic small tables as well as maintaining a joyful banquet for the larger ones. Fondues are spot on. Portions are generous. Wine too yummy for words. Thanks again FC!!
We got the Gorgonzola Fondue. I was expecting a burst of flavor but it was quite bland. They served raw broccoli, which should have been steamed. All the flavors of the things your dipping overpowered the actual Fondue. Supposed to be the other way around.
The dark chocolate and chili Fondue was a nice dessert, but so expensive. Nearly the same as the dinner fondues, but with less Fondue.
Cute idea and ambiance. Loved the hanky napkins. The serving staff was nice but WAY overattentive and a little pushy with items we didn't want, like drinks or a salad.
They just need to push up their flavors. Seasoning the dipped items could also help enhance the flavors.
We were looking for somewhere to eat after going to a show at the Orpheum, and so glad we found Fondue Cowboy! It was a quick 10 minute walk from the theater. The ambiance was really fun, and while it could be romantic, we didn't feel awkward bringing our teenagers with us. The fondue is yummy, and they really think of everything in terms of accoutrements. The only thing missing ( in one of our party's mind) was the traditional broth based fondue. However their meatballs and charcuterie were enough for the rest of us . Will definitely be back!
I have been wanting to go to Fondue Cowboy ever since I moved to SOMA a year ago. I cannot believe that I waited so long especially since I live a couple of blocks away. The service was amazing and so was Eric's suggestions. The meatballs and potatoes were incredible along with everything else. This place is great for the not so typical meals in SF. The food itself sparks so many fun foodie conversations and the presentation is really cool. The cowboy theme is tasteful and not overdone. I cannot wait to take more of my friends and family there very soon. Dessert is on my list for next time!
We have been going here for several years, they have maintained the quality of the food and service.
Paul is amazing at keeping up with your needs without hovering or seeming intrusive.
They have added a couple of new items to the menu, the gouda fondue is amazing and the meatballs are some of the best I have ever eaten.
Dipping a piece of the bread, with a slice of the meatball and you have a great cheeseburger.
The rest of the menu is as good as ever, we love the mixed green salad with pears and gorgonzola.
I would love to see the addition of cauliflower (par boiled).
The only minus is that we are so full at the end of the meal that we seldom have room for dessert.
Although she had responsibility for all the tables, our server was excellent. Took all the time we needed to answer questions, and returned to the table just enough to be attentive. The fondue we chose was delicious, but we discussed other dipping options that might improve the overall meal. Would return, would recommend to friends for casual dining.
Love this place. The menus is simple, just a few choices, and everything on it is a winner. The staff are fantastic, the noise level is low, the food is delicious. Fondue exclusively, for dessert too. There are some great salads and a few sides. Nice simple wine list. Probably my favorite place in the city for casual dinner.
The good always makes for a good get-together, great for those who have never gone fondue-ing (it's my word even though it's not real :D). A combination of meats, breads, veggies, fruits, and a whole lot of cheese. Looking to please someone who loves cheese and chocolate? Come to this place. I've been around this place for practically 5 years, I won't stop coming back.
My adult son and I went to Fondue Cowboy before going to the Golden Gate theater. We had the waiter recommended gouda cheese fondue and were not disappointed. The amount of food was plenty for the two of us. We didn't quite finish it all. Also had the dark chocolate dessert fondue, the meatballs and shared a roasted pear salad. The booths were comfortable, the service was great and the decor was fun, including the old westerns playing on the bar TV. Would definitely visit again!
Terrific service. Great fun. Unusual. The traditional fondue still tasted too much of wine, for my taste, but that's the way it tastes in Switzerland, too. They compensated with fruits and veggies for dipping, which masked the wine nicely. Overall, the best fondues I've ever had.
Love the idea of a fondue restaurant with a cowboy vibe - unfortunately the food is an epic fail. The cheese is tasteless and filled with flour (which the waiter did not mention despite the gluten free mention on the booking)
The cured meat is OK
Fun quirky little place with yummy cocktails and a twist on fondue set in a rustic, western themed yet open establishment. The fondue is vegetarian but tasty. They serve cured meats, so you won't lack protein. Old school westerns play on a big screen above the bar.
