Always an amazing time!
The food here was fresh and absolutely delicious. Cocktail was also yummy. The servers wore gloves and followed hygiene protocols given COVID19.
Outstanding food and service on a busy Saturday afternoon!
We had a very loud group next to us but otherwise the ambiance was good. Food excellent.
Been here four times. Food, drinks, and service are always great.
When you walk in and look at what people are eating you definitely want to eat there. We arrived around 5:00 PM and the tables were full and it was quite loud. We thought we might leave but we discussed the problem with the waiter and he put us in the back corner and lowered the music. By 5:30 most of the "brunchers" were gone and it would be quite a while before the East Village evening customers would arrive. We ate most of our meal with an acceptable decibel level. If too much noise is an issue 5:30 to probably 7 is a good time to experience the incredible food served at Fonda. The appetizers are especially delicious.
Poor service, they tried to kick us out repeat Eventbrite we were only there for less than an hour. The food was not great, guacamole was gross.
Excellent service and high quality food, guac costs extra but otherwise a very good experience
We came here for a birthday celebration and it turned out to be a terrible dining experience. The manager came over to our table and told one of my friend's he wouldn't serve her a glass of wine until she ate something, but made a pretty big scene about it in front of the rest of us and embarrassed her. When another person tried to talk to the manager about the situation he was completely rude to her and told her he didn't care if we ever came back to the restaurant. On top of it all one of us had a chicken bone still in our enchilada. Needless to say it was not the fun, birthday dinner I was hoping for and none of us will ever return.
The food at Fonda is consistently delicious with high quality and fresh ingredients. We are vegetarians and have too often been served dishes filled with mushy cheap filler, but at Fonda the enchiladas are full of fresh vegetables that have not been overcooked, and the spices and sauces are nicely judged. Highly recommended.
Terrific place - easily one of the best Mexican restaurants in the city.
Terrible and loud cheesy music! Nice hosts however the restaurant is a little dated and not as it looks in pictures. Food great though.
The carnitas da Fonda and plantains were amazing
The best guacamole ever. All dishes we try are nicely prepared and very tasty. Oh, and great margaritas. Staff is excellent.
Great friendly service from Carlos really made for a great brunch. Food was great and as always the quac is the best around
One of the best Mexican restaurants in the city - wonderful place.
Both the dark mole and the white mole dishes were delicious and plentiful in amount. Ambiance was pleasant, but the service very attentive and rapid. Nice place for a nice plateful of food!
Made a reservation and waited close to 30 minutes to be seated. Ordered chicken taquitos and the meat tasted gamey - not seasoned well and did not taste fresh at all - almost spit food out upon initial bites of my meal. My friends were out of town and did not enjoy their food either, they found it barely edible. One friend had to push an entire plate of chicken to the side, including her soup because of how bad the meat tasted. However, the staff were fairly nice about everything and took my friend's chicken off the check. The best part about going there was how nice the manager and wait staff were. Apart from that, I will absolutely not return ever again - there is definitely better mexican food to be had in NYC.
Everyone who works at Fonda is very kind. We were initially a party of 10 but ended up being 13. They were very accommodating. They were also consistent with the drink refills which is always great at bottomless brunch :)
The whole experience was excellent. The servers were friendly, informative and very attentive and the ambience is lively and a lot of fun. It's one of our favorite restaurants in New York. Highly recommended
Small restaurant, food was good, staff friendly and efficient. Bathroom clean. One small misstep when waitress accidentally picked up a half-full drink which my husband missed a lot, but they graciously made my husband another one. Will come back.
This was our second time at Fonda for dinner, and we enjoy it more each time we go. We were seated at a high top for two between the bar and the window, which seemed like it could be claustrophobic and noisy at first, but ended up feeling cozy and lively. Our waitress Mindi was there on the spot to take our drink orders and checked in pleasantly and regularly to see how things were going. Waters were filled and plates removed like clockwork by support staff. The hibiscus margaritas are wonderfully fruity and tangy a great way to start (and continue!) We began with the mushroom Huarache (I've learned this restaurant has a great way with mushrooms) and queso fundido, both delicious. We had the scallop and shrimp and shrimp adobado entrees-both nicely cooked with great accompaniments (green rice was a little dry but we fixed that with the green salsa saved from the queso). The Mexican hot chocolate was a really rich and satisfying way to end the meal. Coffee is also good. We left feeling happy and well served. I plan to come here more often!
We went to Fonda for my husband’s birthday! The experience was great because of the terrific service we received all night. The margaritas and guacamole appetizer arrived to our table quickly after sitting down. The guacamole was chunky just the way we like it. The soft fresh tortillas that came with it were warm and delicious. Our green mole enchiladas were great and then dessert of a brownie with a candle was accompanied by a happy birthday serenade from the waitstaff. The evening ended with a shot of premium tequila complimentary of the manager. This is a wonderful spot to celebrate a birthday with the caring and hospitable waitstaff. Well done!
Great quality recipes and ingredients
Real Mexican food!
This is the third or fourth time I have gone to Fonda and have always been impressed.
The sopa de Taco is always incredible. The broth, which is brought separately so nothing is soggy is rich and delicious all by itself. The made at the table is delicious and the Margarita
S are perfect.
What more could you ask for
Amazing food and great service!
The service is excellent and the dood was phenomenal. Extra points for the music 👌🏼
Great for a large group! Fun atmosphere and not too expensive.
It is consistently good food but it is overpriced. The service is great and the drinks are good. Love the decor and ambiance, but just go knowing that you will be paying more than you should for good mexican food!
Great food great service. Both the crab croquetas and pork dish on a skillet are excellent! We loved it so much, we went back the next evening with friends. The manager Ricardo is very friendly and welcoming. Cool vibe. We will be back again soon!!
I must confess that when we have eaten inside, the food was far superior to the noise level and ambience. (But my relatively advanced age may make that irrelevant). Eating outdoors is a joy. The waitpeople are amiable, attentive (especially to my dog, who needs nothing less). The drinks come in good time, and the Mexican/Spanish food is...well, I can't vouch for authenticity, but I can vouch that it is tasty, and after a few appetizers, we ordered a few more.
They have the best brunch! We had great service, delicious drinks and flavorful food. The portion sizes are great. I also really like their guacamole and like the fact that you get chips and warm tortillas. The salsa is delicious too. I would highly recommend it.
Food was great. Staff was very welcoming to our disabled son!
Service was very slow, had to wait a long time for drinks. Drinks we’re disappointing, Margaritas were watery and tacos dry. Waiters were very friendly and I enjoyed atmosphere however just did not make up for food and drinks.
I had been wanting to do brunch at Fonda for quite some time and I must say it was very good. The food was authentic and delicious. The Rosalina was amazing. I guess because brunch is so busy they couldn’t really check on you often. I had thought they forgot about my guacamole order because it took long. I ordered it as an appetizer and got it along with my food and everything barely fit on table. Other than that everything else was great. Food ✔️ drinks✔️ people ✔️
Delicious food - the best
A little too loud though - had to almost shout to talk
Excellent service, good recommendations, tasty food and great drinks for our brunch on Saturday. Muchas gracias!
We had a great meal. We sat outside with our dog and everyone was really nice. The guac was especially delicious
