I’ve been to many bottomless brunches where the drinks are watered down, but I was very impressed with both the selection and quality of drinks at Fonda. Food was delicious and wait staff was relatively attentive. I was happy to see so many vegetarian options as well! I thought it was a bit on the pricy side, but given the quality, I can’t complain too much.
Second time to Fonda and what a great time. Delicious food and drink mixed well with the decor and the staff. A fun evening with people who’ve not seen each other in far too long a time.
Too loud, too crowded for a Friday night date.
The waiter couldn’t hear our order and missed a couple items we asked for.
Great food and service will definitely go back
Food was delicious and
We live in the neighborhood and go to Fonda frequently, so when we had friends visiting from out of town, we immediately thought to go there. We were happy that you were able to accommodate our party of 6 downstairs, but overall the service and the food were disappointing. Our server was far from attentive, and even a bit dismissive. In addition, he seemed resistant and discouraging of our request for more salsa verde. The carnitas, one of my favorite dishes, were so salty that they were on the verge of being inedible. Additionally, while we were sitting in the bar area, the music was so loud it made it feel like we were at a club, and we couldn't even hear each other speak across the table. We will chalk it off to a bad night, but I hope that this is not the new normal.
Great food and service each time. Drinks are always delicious and worth ordering. Meals are different and taste is always just right.
My experience was overall very disappointing. Went for all-night happy hour to celebrate Mexican Independence Day as advertised on Facebook. The happy hour was only valid at the bar, which was not mentioned on the on-line ad. The food was ok but overpriced; $15 guacamole for two is unjustifiable. After ordering dessert, the waiter came back 15 minutes later to inform the last badge of hot cocoa “curdled” and they were out of buñuelos (funnel cakes). The ambiance, decor and menu were amazing, but management seems to be an issue.
Good menu and good food. I thought the pico de Gallo and the carnitas was over salted, but I nonetheless enjoyed the authenticity of the food. We went on a Friday around 5:30. It was loud. I had a hard time hearing the wait staff when they came to our table.
Excellent food and service..very loud restaurant. Went from the deafening bar area downstairs to a table upstairs. Still very loud and difficult to talk across table. Perhaps they could put some soundproofing on the ceiling to mute the din. Otherwise a wonderful restaurant.
Too expensive for value-$15 margaritas not worth it. Food good, but nothing special.
Decided to try a new place with my friends. Very energetic bar scene . We were seated at one of the booths across from the bar. I had no idea they had a second floor of seating until well into our meal. had I know I would have requested a table up there so that we can actually hear our conversation. One of the members of our party has a heart issue and cannot eat spicy food. Our waiter made it painfully clear that everything on their menu was spicy and cannot be adjusted so we tried to find the least spicy thing on the menu for him.
My favorite Carne Asada!!! Delicious 🤤🤤
Labor Day weekend so the choice of seating was plentiful. Very nice and accommodating team. Service was quick, but not too quick. Gave 4 stars as they were not busy at all. I’ll go back when its busier. Well done to the team, great experience.
It had been a while, so I had forgotten how great Fonda is. Service was excellent. Food was even better. We’ll be back soon.
All the food was outstanding! The carne asada is one of the best steak dishes we have ever had. Beware they will ask you if you want to start with guac, but it's the $15 dish on the menu, not complimentary. And the place is LOUD if you sit downstairs, even at 5pm on a Saturday. We would definitely go back though, as the food was really terrific.
Food was delicious. Server was great. Very creatively prepared and served. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
We were ready to order dessert (the brownie sundae) and then we were informed that they’ve run out of it, their most popular dessert. It was only about 9pm and the dinner crowd was still going strong.
Food was bland and overpriced for the small portions. Happy hour only at bar not in bar area (where I sat). Short rib in mole sauce was one note: heavy.
My favorite Mexican restaurant in NYC. Great neighborhood vibe
And food is amazing. Not typical Mexican as there are many healthy and lite options as well. Margaritas delicious!
And the guacamole is the best I’ve ever had.
This restaurant was GREAT!! The service was wonderful and the food was delicious. Great location! We will definitely be back!
A nice place. Good value and food. Very noisy. Pleasant staff. Worth it. Don’t think you’ll ha e an intimate conversation
Beside the loud banging of dishes by the bus person the noise level was acceptable and the place very cute. Food was excellent. Service was great without being obtrusive.
Visiting NYC for the weekend, food was delicious and the margaritas were strong.
I first discovered Fonda in the East Village where I live, but actually prefer this location as there is more room. I especially like to sit upstairs. The food is excellent and I like the choices offered. They make a great Sangria, too!
Highly recommended! My family enjoyed the location. They are still talking about it.
Great food, but they really cram you in to overcrowded seating. Also the hostess is fairly unpleasant.
The food was amazing! It was my birthday and Fonda lived up to the reviews and my expectations. I would definitely recommend this resturant.
Nice restaurant. Food was great and the service also provided a nice experience. Plan on going there again when we are in the area.
Excellent service and food, everything was amazing!
Really bad experience. Have been before but this was so disappointing. Our order was messed up so entrees arrived with appetisers. We asked if the entrees would be cooked fresh and were told yes. The waiter then tried to pass off an entree that had been sitting there for 30 minutes. Eventually took it away and replaced the food but then the food came back undercooked as was clearly rushed. They did take it off the bill in the end but spoiled the whole experience. Also cheap on their part to not just cook the food fresh in the first place especially as the mistake was on their side
NYC has several wonderful, highly rated Mexican restaurants that we enjoy, But Fonda is our go to when we’re looking for classic Mexican done right! We have a great deal of respect for Chef Roberto Santibanez. As usual, we had great service and every menu detail was executed perfectly. Great margaritas, guacamole, fabulous chipotle salsa, tender fresh made tortillas. Our guests are vegetarian and they loved their spinach stuffed chile rellenos and vegetarian enchiladas; I had the classic enchiladas suisas done to perfection and my wife had the pescado tikin xic and it was a fabulous composition of achiote marinated Cod fish, plantain white rice, velvet black bean sauce and pickled habanero onion. We left full and happy.
Love the place. The brunch is one of my favorites. The server was a bit too controlling with how much we drank. We left the restaurant ok, so I didn't understand why the server told us at least 4 times that if he felt we drank too much he would cut us off but the white women next to us got so drunk that one fell over. Other than that it was a good experience.
Greay food and service, recommend.
Great food, but the music was extremely loud
Extremely loud. Couldn’t hold a conversation. They seated us 30 minutes late. Did not do anything to make up for it. We ordered 2 guacs and one was significantly larger than the other. When we asked about it, the waiter said that the size of the order “depends on the size of the avocados” and there was nothing he could do.
My friend and I went out to celebrate an life achievement. The service was extremely slow. Apps arrived before drinks , server took our food order 10 minutes after we finished apps. One of our items never arrived. The food was good it was a shame the service was so lacking.
I would definitely recommend Fonda to anyone looking for innovative and delicious Mexican food , a great atmosphere, and a friendly and knowledgeable wait staff.
I went for dinner at Fonda, and although the food tasted okay, I wasn’t blown away with the service. Upon being seated, we were asked if we wanted chips and guac, which we didn’t realize would be $15 for two people, especially since I didn’t even get a chance to look at the menu when we were asked. I also wanted to order a second drink, but our waitress never came back to our table once the food was down. However, the food was delicious and the ambiance was nice!
Really bad experience. Ordered starter of guac and chips... guac came and we sat waiting for chips for 10minutes until i finally got someones attention.
As we were half way through our sharing mains.. with two/three tacos still not touched yet our waiter asked us were we finished as he wanted to clear the table... we clearly had only just started eating.
My friend was on her last mouthful and her plate was swiped away from the table and at the same time we were asked did we want to see the desert menu... since we hadnt even had a moment to digest our food we said we were ok for now. a minute later the bill was handed to us! we sat at 7pm, our bill was dropped at our table at 7.45pm. My friend was about to order another drink until the bill came, and we decided to leave and go else where. terrible terrible customer service... place was empty so no idea why they were in such a rush for us to leave!
