Have eaten at Fonda many times and it remains just as good as always. The Pepino margaritas were spot on. Well balanced, not too sweet or too heavy handed with the tequila. Guac was very nice too. Not too heavy on the add ons. Avocado was the focus but just enough of the other things to add but not take over. Pescado Tikin Xic was the real star. The cod was cooked perfectly, the sauce, plantain rice and habanero onion pickle all worked together really well. Service was excellent. Quick, attentive, knowledgable but not in your face.
When the weather is fine, Fonda Brooklyn's patio is exactly where you want to be for a bowl of intensely flavored soup, a spicy guac, and a hibiscus margarita. The food is always made with care, the service is attentive without hovering, and the patio is quieter than the main dining room, making it a better place for conversation. I love Fonda!
Fonda was just right for an early evening friends’ get-together. We chose a table at the pleasant outdoor area, a great choice for our recent (October) evening. Service was attentive and considerate, margaritas delicious, the food well prepared, creative, and delicious.
The guacamole appetizer was fine, but could have been a bit more generous portion. Otherwise, everything was fine
2 stars due to the following:
-Food is way too salty specifically the guacamole to the point that we had to return it (and don't get me wrong, I like salt but this was extreme!! I mean it's hard to mess a guacamole right? Especially at a Mexican restaurant..
2- service was very slow with only 1 server for the whole restaurant on a packed weekend night. No concern for follow up on meals, checking if everything ok..
3- margaritas were alright
4-prices are too high for the food especially with such mediocre quality and poor service.
The only thing I liked was the ceviche
This place is a gem! We are so lucky to have it in Park Slope. The staff clearly cares about your experience and the food is delicious and often surprising. Never pass up the specials---they are always adventurous and super yummy. And the rosalitas (hibiscus margaritas) are refreshing and potent but never too sweet.
Fonda, Soigne, Piccoli, and Talde are the fabulous four places we bring our out of town friends to show off the neighborhood. Never disappointing.
Although my husband was a bit disappointed with the mole sauce on his entrée, my friends and I really enjoyed our fish tacos and duck entrée. The guacamole and chips were terrific and the service was nicely attentive. We were sitting across from the bar on a busy Friday evening, so it was a little loud, but not to the point that we were uncomfortable. Would definitely return.
My son just moved to Brooklyn to start medical school so we were looking for a restaurant that was nearby but had good food. Well, this was it. We were seated early and had the opportunity to sit in the back in a garden like area. It was super cute and not noisy as the inside seemed a bit noisy. All of us really enjoyed our food from the fish to the steak to the stuffed peppers. We will definitely be back. And the staff are so nice...very willing to make sure you enjoy yourself!
I always enjoy coming here. I love that the guacamole is made fresh to order after asking if you'd like it mild, medium or spicy. The tortillas and corn tortilla chips served with it are very fresh as well with refills upon request. The cocktails are made an emphasis on flavor besides strength. They had a special of Avocado gazpacho with bits of watermelon and a drizzle of olive oil- it was silky smooth and quite refreshing (and tasty!)
My main dish of Camarones Mosquito was awesome- perfectly cooked shrimp with a creamy lime-jalapeño sauce and soft spinach rice. Unfortunately I cannot take more than mild to medium spice which is why I love Fonda. They place such an emphasis on flavor, not heat and when they do use it, it is to actually punch up the flavor that much more.
The citrus tres leches cake for dessert was a refreshing end to a great meal without being super sweet.
Super-fantastic food, as usual. Service tonight, however, was sub-optimal. It was not the server's fault. She was friendly and as helpful as she could be - but she was alone covering the entire front room! Similar situation with the person assisting her. Even after asking for water twice, we still waiting well over 5 minutes. No one came to our table for almost 8 minutes - and we saw another couple near us just get up and leave. Management needs to address this. This was serious under-staffing. We were told several staff called-out. Well, there should be a Plan B. This was not good. We did not even consider coffee/desert. Again, the food remains outstanding.
We had a surprisingly bad experience at Fonda which we are hoping was an anomaly.
They were clearly under-staffed and there was a huge 40 minute gap btwn our appetizer and brunch entree. The waiter was pleasant but we did have to physically track him down for more drinks and refills. This was clearly a kitchen issue but it made me rethink the esteem in which I had previously held Fonda. Food remains great as usual.
I've eaten at Fonda before and I thought that the food and service was very good; however, this time it was 90 degrees outside and there was no air-conditioning. I asked to sit outside but, of course, the outdoor area was full and having a reservation didn't help. It was far too hot to eat and we left without ordering. I can appreciate the need to save money but when you drive customers away, you're not making money.
