Fonda - Brooklyn
Incredible margaritas and "best of its kind" Mexican Home Cooking.
We had a very disappointing experience at Fonda, one of my neighborhood restaurants. I arrived with two friends for a 7.15 reservation. The food arrived quickly and we ate quickly, then my friends decided to have one more glass of wine. The minute the wine was on the table, the waiter put the bill down in the middle of the table-not good form. When I moved it over to the wall so we wouldn't be staring at it, he came over and put it back down in the middle of the table and continued to come over every few minutes to try to take it back, even though I explained that my friend still had a glass of wine in front of her and we hadn't put our cards down yet. I'm 8 months pregnant and my friend is a new mom-we were both looking forward to a nice evening out. The waiter/manager was so obnoxious about pressuring us to leave, we ended up barely finishing the wine. We were in and out in under two hours-not lingering for hours. It was an awful and unpleasant experience and one I won't be repeating. Shame the food is good and I live around the corner.
Beautiful, authentic food, great vibe. One of my fave go-to spots for margaritas and mexican food.
High quality food in a cozy setting with excellent service. The chicken mole enchiladas were amazing!
Excelente lugar para comida mexicana.
We've been going to Fonda for years, but it seems to be going downhill. The food has lost some of it's distinctiveness, and now it feels more like an ordinary Mexican restaurant (with extraordinary prices). Also, service was downright poor the last time we went; even though the restaurant was not full, the waiter ignored our table for a long time, didn't get drink orders promptly, and food was slow coming out of the kitchen. At least part of our order was wrong and had to be sent back. Overall a disappointment, which is a shame because this used to be a neighborhood gem.
I love Fonda. It’s a favorite I return to on a monthly basis
The food is excellent and the vibes are good
Excellent Food. A little pricey, but worth it. We had the tacos and the cactus. I've had other dishes before. All hit the spot.
It’s always good. Excellent margaritas.
Great food, great drinks. One of the best places to eat in NYC - outstanding experience, always!
Food was amazing. Place was crowded. However, it wasn't an issue, but made service a bit slower in the end. You can't beat the the meal. So delicious. My favorite Mexican restaurant in NYC by far, since living in Mexico years ago.
Great food, excellent service but price a bit high and dining area a bit small ( however, this allowed us to strike up a very nice conversation with couple next to us).
The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. The different drinks suggested by our waiter was very good. The food was amazing and our food was served within reasonable time. Definitely, a great night.
I ate there the other night and had two of the specials - Cochinita Pibil, which was amazing, so savory, so flavorful. I started with a Mango gazpacho with watermelon and jicama. It came in a bowl with diced red and white cubes at the bottom over which the waiter poured a frothy yellow creamy soup, which turned out to be...just perfectly salted and delicious. Also, they make a great Michelada. I do, and will, return to Fonda again and again.
Always love visiting Fonda, the service was somewhat slower and the water service was very poor however the food is always great.
Always great food and good service here
Took forever to take our order. Took 25 mins to get drink. Took at least 30 mins to get food after we finally ordered. Beans were watery and lukewarm. It wasn’t a welcoming experience all in all. Hopefully this was an anomaly.
This was my fourth time at Fonda Park Slope. It was not as good as other times but still a great meal. Guacamole was not as creamy, service wasn't as sharp, food wasn't as on point. Still worth a stop in.
Service Was not great. Waited 15 minutes before anyone even came for a drink order. Manager made up for it though.
Table chosen outside, rained, but the servers helped relocate us out of the storm. The food is so good, classics that never fail to please. Manager so welcoming and treated us with care. Classic margarita is perfect. Hibiscus margarita good also. Enchiladas suizas, full of tasty chicken. Tortilla soup outstanding with avocado. Fonda is the best place for Mexican.
Food was excellent. Would go again
I usually love this place! I live their v
I've eaten there in the past and it was fine but this experience wasn't great. It was very hot outside and they had no air conditioning. I don't remember if they had fans but I had to excuse myself a few times to go to the bathroom and wipe my face down.
The skirt steak I had was also not good. The meat was stringy and the green beans and sauce did not compliment it well at all.
The space was also too cramped. There was a large table of about 12 people behind us (with a small child running around causing traffic jams) and I had trouble getting to my seat if people had chairs pulled to far back or if a waiter was serving people.
Great food, delicious drinks. Not your average Mexican fare. Definitely try the guacamole.
Consistently good service, delicious food and great ambiance.
Much nicer atmosphere than their East Village location. Our server was super attentive and all the staff were lovely. We had the 1 hour bottomless brunch and added the guac on top - delicious. Frozen Rosalita is great.
Eggs over cooked in the huevos rancheros. Two people were served long after the other three. Very disappointing meal. We’ve eaten here many times, but after this one it’s doubtful we’ll be back
I really enjoyed the food and drinks here. It was really good, probably the best frozen margs I’ve had in a long time. I would’ve given this place 5 starts but the service was very slow for no reason. Not sure if our server forgot about us but it took a while to get everything except water. It was also extremely hot. I will come here again thought but maybe to a different location.
Food was great. Cod was fantastic as well as the vegetarian enchiladas. Nice ambience. Service was just a tad slow.
The food was amazing. Drinks were descent. The service was unacceptable. The waitress was rude and impolite. It tainted the experience of delicious food.
I loved my drinks and tacos. The service is amazing.
Service during the bottomless brunch was very slow. It took 15 minutes for me to receive my first drink. When it finally came, the ice had melted so my drink was watered down. About 60% through my late first drink, I asked for another. Since the first one took so long, I decided that ordering ahead was an appropriate resolution. The waiter told me I couldn't order the next one until I finished my first drink. At the rate they were working, I would've gotten my second drink more than half way through my 1 hour limit. Bottomline, if you are going to enforce such rigid rules and time restrictions, you should be more attentive. Eventually, service picked up but not without a healthy helping of rudeness and attitude. No one could even humble themselves to apologize for the delayed service. This was my 3rd visit to Fonda and my last.
Fonda has the best upscale Mexican food in NYC and is way better than any of the Rosa Mexicanas. Great margaritas, guac( if you don’t eat salt, tell the waiter) and fabulous carnitas ( the best I’ve ever had.) Restaurant can get noisy at peak times, try to go early or late.
Fonda is a go-to favorite in Park Slope, a reliably delicious restaurant for a long time. The ribs entree was huge and delicious!
There was some good and there was some bad.....
Blanca Gespacho was very salty and had too much garlic. It was topped with some sweet grapes that didn't mesh with the garlic. That dish should be looked at again and refined.
Guac was tasty, it seemed like it was made to order which is good
Sangria and Watermelon Marg were good
Service was okay. My napkin fell off my lap and was picked up right away by someone very stealthy, I never saw who. Sadly a new one was never offered which isn't the end of the world but worth noting. Also I asked for hot sauce and it never came. It was only when the Manager who did a great job spotted me waiting and came to help. Good guy who saved the situation by being alert.
Enchiladas were okay, I'm sure we could have received better, or at least equal from a much cheaper place.
$150 dinner for two with a couple of drinks seemed high to us for the overall value we received. Probably going to explore elsewhere and give them a chance to right there ship. Especially the B letter grade in the window. C'mon guys, as someone who's been working in big and small restaurants for almost my entire working life. You should know better and be more prepared and nail the inspection when they come. Especially when you have that high of a check average. I hope you make the necessary changes. We'll come back when you have the A in the window.
One of the best meals we’ve had in Brooklyn. Outstanding authentic food. We’ll definitely be back soon
Great food and drinks served by friendly staff in a cozy space.
