Fond Ratings and Reviews
We brought out f town special friends for a special dinner. Everything we ordered was fabulous and the service to match!
Excellent choices on menu and perfect size portions.
Servers were constantly caring for our table but never intrusive.
Couldn't ask for a better experience!
We will be back!
Host was not punctual, arrived at 855 for 915 reservation, sat at bar until 945 before we were seated. Bartender was great, but host seemed fake and wanted to be done with serving us by the end of dinner because it was 1115, since we couldn't be seated for almost 1 hour. Food was good, but service chipped away at the experience.
We arrived a little early and brought champagne. The bartender opened the bottle ($15 corking fee on the weekend) and we enjoyed a drink at the cute bar. The atmosphere was lively, which made it feel festive on a cold rainy Saturday. We started with a fantastic tuna ceviche and seared foie Gras, which were both top notch. My main was the pork belly, and my date's main was the steak special. Both were delicious, but I think he should have had a green on his plate to accompany the roasted potatoes. Finally, his chocolate cake appeared with a candle and Happy Birthday on the plate, but they kept it low key by not singing, much to his delight. The tropical creme brûlée was an interesting twist on the typical dish. Service was well paced and our server was very informed and personable. I would definitely recommend Fond.
Food was really good. We were there for a later seating and the service was surprisingly disjointed. After a 40 min break between appetizer and main course we had to stop a waiter and ask about our food. Even though the restaurant had been packed when we arrived, by the time our food came out, there were many open tables. The noise level was high until guests had finished their meals and then left. I would still recommend the restaurant as the food was fresh and very tasty.
One of the best meals I've had in recent history. We have gone to some of the best restaurants in Center City and Fond was definitely high on the list. We did the five course tasting menu. Foie gras appetizer, escargot Rockefeller, tuna ceviche were all delicious! Branzino entree was also a high point. Great ambiance
We came here with my fiance's family (5 people total) to celebrate a major milestone for my fiance. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. I would definitely recommend this place for special occasions, and would suggest keeping your party to under 6 people since it is a cozy setting.
Gave Fond a 4 only because we thought the dessert was just ok. Would have rated them a 4.5 if it was an option. Maybe our expectations were too high after having wonderful apps and entrees. Service was outstanding from the start....not too pushy, descriptions of every plate put in front of us, kept the drinks topped off....Great little restaurant that we will def be returning to.
It's not often I go out to appreciate the finer things in life, so last Saturday I set out to do just. Fond did not disappoint. That morning, we were able to snag an earlier reservation for 5:30PM. We ended up bringing our own wine which made for a good deal with the $15 corkage fee. There's were a bit pricey for what they were. I had the pork rillettes, foie gras, and duck confit and each dish was done to perfection. Our waiter was pleasant and very polite. It's an expensive place but definitely worth it if you're looking for a nice meal out.
Fond, The food, drinks and service is OUTSTANDING. Small menu, a few specials, don't be intimidated by the menu. It can be costly, however it is worth it.
This was our third visit and we will be back soon. We were a party of four, and we all loved what we got.
We were at Fond for thefirst time for Restaurant Week and LOVED the meal. It was best of RW. We would love to return but the restaurant is pricey $29 entrees, $15 apps so we may have to wait till the next RW to return. But for special occasions this place is great. And BYOB Tues-Thursday
The food was fantastic and we really enjoyed everything that we had. The butternut squash soup, goat cheese gnocchi, and malted milk chocolate ice cream were especially delicious. The only thing that was a bit frustrating was the service during the second half of our meal; our waitress seemed to get significantly busier and shorter with us, and never offered us a second round of drinks or coffee before dessert. Not a huge deal, but we definitely noticed the difference. We'll likely be back, hopefully with a different server!
Date night is my favorite night!
Yesterday was our first visit to this establishment for East Passyunk Restaurant Week. First off, service was very good and professional, no complaints there.
Food was great, I honestly don't have a thing to complain about. The coconut curry with lump crab soup was delicious. Great smoothness to the soup and very flavorful. The Belgian Endive salad was really unique -- I've never had endive or shallots with goat cheese, a very interesting combo but it worked well.
The Scottish sea trout was very well cooked, about medium rare and it was son interesting that it looks so much like salmon! The fish was melt in your mouth nicely cooked with the crispy skin just how I like it. The gnocchi with it was quite interesting, loved the goat cheese flavor and it seems as though it was lightly fried, and I've never had gnocchi like that before.
Lastly, the dessert that erally stood out is the kaffir lime coconut creme brulee. The tartness of the pineapple with the passionfruit shortbread was such a great combination of flavors and textures.
I wouldn't hesitate to come back. Plus, BYOB is a plus! Tuesday - Thursday = Free, and weekends I believe is $15 per bottle corkage fee from what the server said :)
We have been to Fond several times, always great. There was a pre fixe menu for restaurant week that was very reasonably priced. All the courses were delicious. It was a special anniversary dinner and the staff was great. They even served our dessert with a special anniversary message.
The service was excellent. The food was good, but not great. We did the 7 course tasting menu because we tend to think that a restaurant will use a tasting menu to show off their best. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. It was little things; the amuse bouchée was a hot mushroom soup that burned my tongue with the first bite, the fruit dessert that seemed like a spin on a cobbler wasn't warm, the pork belly dish seemed to be a mash up of ingredients with no cohesive thought.
The star of the meal was the goat cheese gnocchi (that was really a gnudi). It was delicious. It was served with the trout, which was cooked perfectly, but was certainly not the star of the dish. I found myself eating the trout to get to the gnocchi.
The portions were huge for a tasting menu. I would have preferred smaller portions of better conceived dishes than the menu we at. Overall a good meal, but I wouldn't eat it again - especially not for $72 per person.
