Located along Philadelphia’s popular East Passyunk Avenue, Fond is at once a sophisticated and comfortable neighborhood spot, appropriate for a variety of occasions, from a casual night out, to drinks at the bar, or a celebratory dinner.
Fond’s interior features natural tones and elements, including a 12-seat live-edge wood bar, where guests may enjoy a selection of beers, well-crafted cocktails and a thoughtfully curated wine list. The 36-seat dining room with its bright display of greenery throughout and oversized windows overlooking the neighborhood’s ‘Singing Fountain’ enhance the restaurant’s comfortable, welcoming ambiance. Fond Ratings and Reviews
Fond was recommended to us by a friend, and we were not disappointed! The restaurant is small and cute, and had a great ambience for a date night. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu with their wine pairings, and it was incredible. Each dish was delicious, and the wine worked perfectly with each. The server was very knowledgeable about the food and wine and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. It was a wonderful dining experience and I couldn't recommend Fond highly enough.
One of Philly's best, this has the added virtue of being BYOB for most of the week (check the latest status when you reserve). The service is always excellent while the food has never been less than very good. The only issue is whether you start debating if it is one of the best meals that you've had in Philly. While they can't meet that standard every night, even a routine night is still formidable. In the middle of the vibrant Passyunk Square area, it is always a good choice.
Had the special tasting menu with wine pairing. Food was fantastic (risotto dish was an absolute standout) and wines were both delicious and spot on matches to the plates. Service was a little uneven- great at times, but when the place filled up, there were a few minor mis-steps (eg- food served while one person was in the restroom, food served ahead of wine poured, etc). Also, it was a little bit loud once the restaurant filled up- tables are close- not uncomfortable physically, but you’re part of your neighboring table’s conversation whether you like it or not.
We enjoyed the most memorable meal we had for ages at Fond. We're not big eaters so we focused on the appetizers. Some of the most fun were pairings that were unexpected and, at first, seemed counter intuitive. Cream cheese with Fois gras? Coconut milk with grilled Hammachi collar? Anou kept us plied with thoughtfully selected wine pairing that were excellent. A great meal and a great experience.
Oysters exactly as described. Fresh delicious salad. Good pate though pretty mild seasoning and probably would have been better on toast points or crackers rather than more of the same bread offered as a side. Crispy salmon was outstanding; lamb stroganoff also very good though a little more conventional. Service was excellent, if anything perhaps a little too attentive (the bartender, waitperson, and busperson all repeatedly inquired if everything was satisfactory). With one salad, two appetizers, two entrees, one dessert, two cocktails and one glass of wine the bill with tip was $200; so it's not an inexpensive meal but definitely a worthwhile evening.
We chose Fond for our anniversary dinner, it was the first visit for us both. Thankfully they offer valet parking, unfortunately it is a little tricky to find since it is not located directly outside the restaurant but rather in the triangular "park" across the street.
We started with cocktails, which were delicous and very well-balanced. We ordered three apps to start -the risotto, the buratta and the hamachi ceviche. All were very good, hamachi ceviche was the winner. I would have been happy with another order of that for my main! For the main course my husband ordered the beef cheeks and I ordered the lamb stroganof. A glass of malbec arrived with dinner and was the perfect choice - thanks to a recommendation from the waiter.
It was a very quiet table ... not a crumb was left on either plate! Really delicious food. We ordered two desserts - the apple thing and the chocolate thing. I didn't really care for either.... but my husband liked them both. Chalk it up to my being full already.
The restaurant service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was intimate, bustling, cozy. It was a lovely evening and we can't wait to return with friends.
Every dish was prepared and presented well; excellent service, hip vibe, tiny euro-cafe ambiance w a corner entry and ceiling- to-floor windows, tiny tables and a giant great bar and drink list. Main course choices are few; I ended up piecing together appetizers to find my spot and it proved a top tier experience. Small place, focused--surf it and you will have a great experience!
I have been to Fond on many occasions. Food is always fantastic but my most recent visit suffered from horrible service. Server was not very attentive and pacing was HORRIBLE! We ordered 2 soups, shared a pate, and 2 entree's which took well over two and a half hours on a fairly slow night in the restaurant. As I said, food was/is always fantastic but the service could use some help.
Fond is in a tough parking area- website states there is valet parking Tues through Saturday, only someone forgot to update the website- no valet during the summer. An inconvenience when dining in south Philly. Service was otherwise very good. Menu was small but interesting. Food was freshly prepared. Our friends enjoyed all their dishes. We also liked ours, but they were good, not great. I would not probably drive from the burbs to eat here, - dishes were tasty but not to the best they can be. One was over salted, another not enough. However they do not charge a corkage fee on some weekdays , this is a plus. Overall we had a nice meal and a nice time. The service was excellent.
My husband and I went to Fond for the first time on Sunday night. We both ordered the tasting menu and bottles of wine we're all 50% off. We started With came nexta spicy watermelon juice. Refreshing and delicious. Next was a lightly smoked salmon appetizer, also great. The second course of chicken liver mousse was just as rich and smooth as any foie gras mousse I've tried. Grilled lemongrass shrimp over congee with bok choi was perfectly cooked. Two beautiful divers scallops with fresh corn risotto and an avocado mousse were outstanding . Last entree was a braised pork belly which I barely had room for but managed to enjoy anyway. Two desserts were also scrumptious, especially the fruit pavlova. Service was both friendly and attentive.
Our very favorite restaurant in Philadelphia.
Absolutely the best foie gras in Philadelphia.
Very creative and extremely well executed menu.
Never disappoints, seven years I (think) and never
a bad meal. Great chef, excellent people out front.
Always a pleasure to patronize Fond!
Food was ok. Service was not good at all. Our waitress failed in ordering one of our appetizer so we ended up waiting for 40min for appetizer. We eventually had to remind her we indeed ordered the appetizer.
And then the appetizer was finally made and brought to our table, but it turns out the waiter brought the wrong plate to us. We almost started eating and then the waiter took the plate from us and wanted to bring it to another table who actually ordered that plate. Glad the bartender caught it and told him no.
Our entree didn't come until 80min after we ordered the food. It was a big disappointment.
Everything about this restaurant was wonderful. The ambiance was attractive and casually elegant, the food exceptional. We had the Icelandic Cod and the Green Circle Chicken both of which were excellent and beautifully presented. We started with the Chicken Liver mousse which was rich and flavorful and enough easily for 4 people to share. Our waiter was knowledgeable and particularly helpful in helping me select a wine to go with our meal. Overall, highly recommend!
Darling restaurant. Great location and beautifully decorated. The staff was extremely friendly. The cocktails were delicious and the food was scrumptious. We practically licked our plates. We had the branzino, green circle chicken, seasonal salad and dessert. The freshy baked bread, especially the olive bread was excellent.
I went in with high hopes for Fond, overall it was good, but not great. I had a cocktail to start that just tasted like lemon juice, was supposed to have tea infused with ginger, but honestly, I couldn't taste it at all. We shared several appetizers, the fois gras was excellent, but the escargots were disappointing. I think they were trying to do something more creative than the standard, but it ended up just tasting a little weird. I had the Icelandic cod as my entrée, while it was good, there was just too much salt, especially in the tzatziki, I couldn't eat it and had to scrape it off. The restaurant itself is very cute and very pleasant, but our server just didn't seem experienced enough for this category restaurant. Overall, it was an okay experience, but, when you factor in the cost, I would not go back, there are better options.
