Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse - San Jose Ratings and Reviews
Went with a group of coworkers for post holiday lunch. Reservations were for 12:30 but they sat us early which was good. Since we all had been before we knew the ropes. However, my friend ordered salmon and that showed up almost 40 minutes later after ordering... Pretty much everyone else was done eating. The server seemed more attentive to the table next to us and almost seemed she was avoiding because we kept asking where his entree was. Waiting for the check took another 20 minutes... Something to do with the computer being down... Yet the table next to use received theirs immediately. Anyway, it was okay this time around.
Food was unbelievably salty. Salad bar was missing several items and was not refilled in the in the 2+ hours we were there. Waiters had no personality and one person in our party kept getting ignored for food even though he had his green card out. We told the staff we were there for a birthday and they forgot. We saw two tables get sung happy birthday with a candle on their dessert but when we reminded them of ours they just brought the dessert to the table and left.
We've eaten here many times, but this time my husband became very ill over something he ate. When I told the manager the following day, he wasn't concerned and said "corporate will call you if they receive 3-4 other complaints. What?? Does he think we made it up? We won't be going back.
My husband and I celebrated New Year's Eve here. Everyone from the hostess, wait staff and the bussers were so cordial and attentive. The food was fantastic, meat came out nice and hot and all delicious. The salad bar all fresh. Everything was really good, especially the yummy addictive cheese bread they serve you at the table :)
Fogo de Chao did not disappoint. I've been to numerous Brazilian Steakhouses across the country and even in Rio and can compare it. The variety of meats was good. The brought the filet mignon at the end and it was delicious and tender as it should be. The sirloin was tender and tasty. Ribs, chicken breast and chicken legs, lamb too. Enjoyed the "salad bar" - various cheeses, lox, prosciuto, salads.
We were seated immediately. The salad bar was not refreshed and was pretty picked through. The warmed items were fresher. The staff seemed more involved with themselves than with the customers. Not one of our servers smiled or were very welcoming. The meats were very tasty. And our drinks were well made.
Christmas brunch was terrible. Don't go on a holiday. They will charge you the holiday rate (dinner) and serve you lunch selection of meats. I noticed a waiter taking prime rib to another table. Maybe they special ordered, as it was never offered to the rest of the restaurant.
With all the Brazillian options available, don't go to Fogo de Chao. Pay more for a better meat or pay less and enjoy better (or at least comparable) food.
THe food was good, as is always, but I was disappointed in the service. I made reaervations two weeks prior and was given the worst table ever-next to the restroom and all the way to the back where employees behind us folded napkins and spoke in foul language.
I requested another table, closer to the rest of the dining crowd and closer to the food, but was denied it because the space was reserved for a party- that was due to arrive in THREE hours! We finished dinner and the party still had not arrived, and that was a bummer.
The waitress and the manager showed no empathy and no problem-solving skills.
Service was friendly. Cold draft from the outside door, i asked reception several times to close. I was reassured they would close it but they kept it open to accomodate the food servers going onto the patio. I told the waiter he said he would inform the manager. The bill overcharged me for an extra person, they changed it. Waiter never asked if we wanted dessert. When i got the attention of the waiters assistant he said he would bring dessert menu, that never happened. Food was very good, restaurant crowded and noisy. Hard to have a conversation. My second time at this restaurant, i was disappointed.
Very crowded, due to what looked like holiday office parties, throughout the restaurant. Table appetizers were cold, meat not up to their standard, and mediocre service. Will never go here again, in December. It seemed the "crew" just couldn't handle the volume, as typically we have a great experience at Fogo de Chao.
I am Brazilian and organized a company dinner at Fogo de Chão. it became a mainstream chain, the experience has become a caricature of a Brazilian Churrascaria (like The Outback is to Australian or Taco Bell is to Mexican). This is somewhat understandable, but the prices are like it was the real experience.
On top of that, the facility at Santana Row is too tight for the service model and at this location, the service is particularly arrogant and incompetent.
On this particular occasion: they messed up drink orders, waiter twice took wine orders and came back after 20 minutes to say the wine was not available (after 40 minutes we debated whether to get up and leave or eat without drinks). Of course they did not forget to charge for what was delivered and what was not delivered to the table. The "manager" was not able to address the basic problems - just tell me which wine is available and get the bottles to the table - it took another 20 minutes.
Looking for a Churrascaria in the SF Bay Area? Taurinus in San Jose is small, but authentic and honest. Espetus is the closest to the real thing. Pampas in Palo Alto is not authentic, but it is a nice experience. Fogo de Chão? Skip it.
Went here for a company lunch. Not sure what I was expecting but I guess I thought I was going to a steak place which is what my business partner enjoys. This place serves meat, in mass quantities. In fact they never stop serving you as long as you want. However, the flavor of the meat was not great. I have had better steak at home and in some much lower end restaurants. That said. The service was excellent, the wine was excellent and the ambience was good. Would I return. No.
Despite numerous attempts to inform server, front desk hostess and a special note on this OpenTable reservation about my friend's bday, the server still went ahead and served the dessert without a candle ruining the surprise for him. To top of off, we were charged the dessert that we're supposed to get complimentary because of the bday. Had I known the server would've completely ruined the surprise, I would've brought a cake myself. But I specifically asked and was reassured that Fogo De Chao will take care of it. Very very disappointed that servers had no clue.
We made reservations for thanksgiving dinner. We were sat in the corner so we almost always had to ask for cuts of meat to be brought by. The woman who took our drink orders disappeared so we had to wait nearly 30 minutes for drinks. I’m sure it was busy due to the holiday but the bathroom was a horrible mess.
