Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse - Kansas City Ratings and Reviews
Overall it was good but not what we were used to several years ago. Definitely gone downhill. Selections at the salad/food buffet seemed very small with limited selection. Had gests at a neighboring Table that felt free to use profanity with no one in the management team intervening. Had to ask repeatedly For the meats and the selection of different meats. It was good but not 50$ good. Could get the same quality at 30$ at other establishments In this humble mans opinion. My wife and I will not be returning again.
I love Fogo and have had nothing but great experiences until I dined with Fogo in Kansas City, MO. My reservation was for 5 people for 6:30. We were in KC celebrating my birthday and I made the reservation about 10 days ahead of our trip since our group included a 7yo. We arrived 10 minutes early and the place was packed. I didn’t think much of it since we had a reservation. My husband checked in and the hostess kind of looked confused and said we’ll give you a number. We waited 90 minutes for a table. We checked a few times and the main hostess who was less than pleasant said when we have a table for 5 we’ll seat you. Turns out they had a party of about 200 people that sat at about 7:00. If they had called me when I made the reservation and said look we made a mistake and we can help you due to a large party I would have reserved another restaurant but Friday night at 6:30 on the plaza there wasn’t much I could do. Not once did anyone apologize. Not once did they recognize it was my birthday, which was included in the reservation. They also seated smaller walk-in parties before my group and two other groups about my size that had also made reservations beforehand. When we were finally seated it was one table away in the same room as the huge party. It was loud. Service was slow and not as attentive as it is at other Fogos I’ve dined at. The meat selection was limited. I’m hesitant to dine at Fogo again if this is how they treat their diners. They need to focus on the customer service and teach their staff at the KC location to communicate. Had they called me when I made the reservation to inform me of the situation I would have made other arrangements.
Disappointing might be an understatement... we made reservations for 6:30 and did not get seated till past 7:30. This is a FIRST for us using Open Table RESERVATIONS... And the worst part is the hostess, or management, was not honest and up front... she just said that she would do her best to seat us as soon as possible... knowing full well it could take an hour or more -- not letting us know this... as many of the people that were waiting complained that they had been there for as much as 90 minutes - even with a RESERVATION too!?!?! Very unprofessional - very discourteous - very disrespectful of their patrons. Needless to say we were NOT impressed. While the situation could have been presented to be "understood" (large last minute Christmas parties maybe?) - there was ZERO effort to communicate honestly to anyone. The staff was even frustrated and you could tell unnerved by the tension. This caused them to no doubt under-perform as well. THIS IS A HUGE NO-NO in this day and age! Which is too bad as a Brazilian Steak House can be a REAL ENJOYABLE dining experience, NOT HERE -- even despite the food being quite good - our appetite was not... ! PITY!
Our overall experience was great but we waited an hour and a half past our reservation time for a table. Although the place was packed, and I am not sure if they really cared if we left.......that is not good business to wait that long when you have a reservation. If the wait is going to be that long (and I assume this is a usual night), then don’t take the reservation and serve people “first come, first serve”.
This was our 2nd straight year for a large party, annual client holiday dinner. We arrived early for cocktails, what a disaster, get more help!!! I would also recommend the waiter/waitresses listening MUCH closer to our requests for specific items, sausages and filet mignon to name two. No one should ever have to ask more than once with that many workers! Extreme disappointment with Fogo this year...BTW, we were a 5PM reservation so it wasn't even very busy when we initially sat down.
I hosted a business lunch on Thursday, Nov 30th at Fogo @Plaza KC. All three had salad bar. Great assortment of foods until the bill came. I was charged $34.95 per person for THE SALAD BAR. There is no way that the wait staff could be confused that we had full meal as they didn't serve any meats to our table. I see their menu prices online are $15 per person.
I was frustrated but not in a position to complain in front of client. Very frustrated. I do not plan to return, ever.
I am not really into all the shenanigans to get some steak. I feel like I’m being conned with every angle to stop me from eating steak. Fried bananas and carrots and potatoes on table way before any meat and you have to wade through endless visits to get a tiny piece of steak. I’ll just go to Capital Grill next time and order and pay for what I want and skip all the charades.
Our dining visit is our "big" night out. Each time we've visited, we've had a delightful evening, even though we may have over-indulged a bit. Our service staff for whom we recall names: Jack, Nathan, Eli, and Andreas were all personable and attentive.
We look forward to a return visit.
A unique dining experience. I frequently dine out in KC. This is the most expensive meal that I have ever had, over $300 for 3. The food was not worth the price. You get a salad bar and roaming waiters with different meats. The food was average. The waiters act as a tag team so you do not have your own server. I would not recommend this restaurant.
It was ok.
I'm not a big meat eater. If you want a lot of meat with a good variety, you would love this place. It was a lot of food.
For me, I would have been fine spending the money if I thought the food was good. As it was, I had to season my own meat generously and some of it was just too dry or overdone for my taste. You do get side dishes to go with your meal. The potatoes were awful. They were watery, and probably instant. Or thry tasted like they were. The fried bananas were ok. The yucca bread was fantastic and I enjoyed the fried polenta. The salad bar was ok, but not special. The Brazilian cocktail i had was amazing and the service made up for a lot. My husband liked it enough. If he asked to go back, I would, but I wouldn't choose to go back. Unless it was cor that bread and a nice cocktail.
This has been one of my favorite places. But this visit I received sub par service and food that just wasn't what it used to be. For the price I paid, I expected much better as I had experienced in the past. I hope this past Sunday nite was an anomaly and not the new norm.
Waited for 20 mins for servers to bring meat to table. Didnt get to try usual favorites. Had reservation at 630. They took many people before us until we and another couple complained. Very disorganized after being shut down for private party. Very disappointed.
Expensive but worth it. Not just because it's an all-you-can-eat meat parade, but the quality is well above par. From the food bar to the meat selections, drinks and desserts, there is nothing we have had yet here that was not well above average. And it's just a unique dining experience.
Honestly, I was disappointed. I've eaten in several Fogos, as well as other Brazilian Steakhouses. This was a let down. Now I'm new to the KC area, from Dallas, and maybe my expectations are higher? The salad bar was excellent (I've often thought I'd I could forgo the meat, is still be very happy. ) But the meats were so-so. Many of the cuts were grisly and difficult to chew. And the wait staff was totally untrained. We had a waitress refresh our plates with one hand (4 plates) leaning completely over the table to reach everyone, plopping them down in sequence. We had a waiter reach over my daughter to the other side of the table and put his underarm right up close to her face. It was all rather surprising. Looks like we'll be looking for a different option next time.
