Fogo de Chao Brazilian Steakhouse - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
I've been to many Fogo locations in the US. This location was a disappointment. Immediately after sitting down we ordered a caipirinha to drink before the meal. I had finished the salad portion and was ready to start on the meat service and still no drink. I had to ask the waiter, who had forgotten about it. Also, after finishing for the evening, a quarter of my plate was piled up with fatty pieces of meat. As stated, I've been to many locations and this one was the worst experience I've had. With the exception of forgetting the drinks, the wait staff was very good.
not as good as it used to be. i used to eat here around once a month a couple of years ago, but the food wasn't as good as it used to be. they had a manager (i forgot his name) who was there for a few years who was always on top of things and made sure everything tasted great. but once he left, i feel like the quality and service really changed and went downhill. i think chama gaucha in downers grove is way better. i used to really think fogo was the best, but my past 4 or 5 experiences here has made me not want to come back.
Had to wait for valet to come back so I could park the car, great service in restaurant until I used the ladies room and came back to my table cleared and cleaned for the next customer!! They were embarrassed and mortified and my entire meal was free with a coupon for another free meal and cheesecake to go. But still had to pay the valet when I left. Not a great feeling as a single diner returning from the ladies room. And I had asked directions for the ladies room so it’s not like they did not know where I was!
This place has changed so much, I was their fir New Year’s Eve early dinner, their were only two guys at a time offering meat, you had to ask for the other meats and they would not come out until after telling 3 different people, they used to be gauchos with different meats walking the floor well not that night, managers walking around speeding through as not to see you calling them, salad bar ok, rice was dried out and meat dry also, I will not return to this establishment.
Great tasting food tonight. We go there often. The service was not as good as usual. Clearing the table and bringing new plates was slow. Also, at times meat carvers did not even check with bot guests to make sure if they wanted that choice of meat. I also asked for a table by the wall. When we were seated, I saw one table available by the wall and asked if we could sit there. The hostess said that table was being given to someone else. Strange.
Fogo de Chao provides a terrific selection of meats and an equally amazing Market Table with lots of unique vegetables, cheeses, fruit and cut meats. We took our full family of 10 including the future son-in-law. With this many young men at the table, we were never short on service, attentiveness or food. Rafael (our server) did a great job making sure we had clean plates, the cuts of steak we wanted and a very good cappuccino at the end of our meal. We will definitely be back here again in the near future.
FOgo De Chao in Chicago is just as good as any of their branches from Los Angeles to Minneapolis. I've always enjoyed the variety of cuts offered and the carefully complemented market table. The Chicago branch I recommend just as highly as any other location.
After waiting 10 minutes for a beer list, had to ask again. People are attentive on clearing things and going around to tables.
Meats were mostly meium rare. We prefer medium. Ate the outer parts which meant wasting the middle red pieces. A couple types were a little salty. Better to let customers add that to our liking.
We prefer Zed 451. Though were closed Christmas day, we wanted to try Fogo. First and last visit. Not a dealer breaker for them. They do a good business without us :)
The meat was great, which, for a Brazillian steakhouse, is the main thing. The salad bar was good, although it could have included more variety (we've been to other Brazillian steakhouses). We had our three kids with us and they enjoyed the food as we were celebrating Christmas. They were all 6 and under and we weren't charged for them. I recommend the top sirloin and bacon-wrapped fillet as well as the beef short ribs and picanha. The taboule was delicious (they put quinoa in it). They had fresh papaya - very yummy! I would recommend them!
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Waited 20 min for a table for 2 despite reservation, was sat in the corner, no one stopped to serve us- we were there over an hour and only got 4 meats (only 1 steak!) to come to our table! took server 15 min to take drink order only to come back 15 min later to tell us she forgot what we ordered! I asked 5 different servers for bread basket but never received, yet the bill was dropped 20 minutes after seating to push us out. The manager was too busy to see us and not surprising they haven't returned our 2 phone call in 4 days. We essentially paid 165 for the salad bar and 4 slices of medicore meat of which only 1 was actual steak. DO NOT GO.
My kids and I love Fogo de Chao. My daughter absolutely loves the leg of lamb and lamb steak, while my son and I thoroughly enjoy all of the medium rare cuts of beef. The meats are not over-seasoned like some other places. The service was wonderful. The market bar was delicious as well. The only thing I didn't care for was that our server kept asking my kids if they wanted more Coke -- me not realizing at first that we were charged for every Coke and the bottles were only 8 oz bottles. I spent an extra $12+ and it would have been more had I not stopped the refills. It's cute that you like to bring the little Coke bottles over to the table, but I'd be just as happy with fountain Coke and not be charged for refills.
I've been to Fogo several times over many years, and I've tried various other Brazilian steakhouses. They really are the best. Caipirinha is one of my favorite drinks and theirs are great but too small. Need to order them on "the Kennedy plan". Regarding the meat, the bottom sirloin, and the lamb rib chops are the best. Skip the bacon wrapped stuff. My only complaint is that it's always exactly the same. The only surprise was they seemed to have dropped the bacon strips from the salad bar.
