About

This iconic San Francisco restaurant reopened in September 2013, heralding the return of a beautiful destination for modern, eclectic cuisine and cocktails along the City’s Embarcadero. At the helm is renowned chef and owner Bruce Hill. The landmark Fog City Diner, which first opened in 1985, was completely re-imagined by chef Hill and the restaurant’s founders. Maintaining the energy and spirit of the beloved original, this new incarnation offers innovative menus in a sophisticated, warm and open environment. Join us for lunch and dinner seven nights a week, an afternoon cocktail, or weekend brunch. If your reservation time is unavailable, please give us a call so we can better inform you of additional booking options.

The salmon sandwich and the fries were great. Could some of the best fries in town.

I mourn the loss of the old FCD. Why the present owners gutted and rebuilt a SF classic, turning it into a garish mess I cannot imagine. They even took down the classic Farley originals and warehouses them. And sadly the food has declined as well. It's now a place only for tourists, guidebook in hand.

Good service and food. Flank steak deserved something besides the french fries (grilled vegetables ?) Very tasty steak but should be paired with something comparable. Husband loved the pork shop! We had our 13 year old grandson with us so the virgin cocktails were a nice option.

The old fog city diner was magical and delicious. This new fog city was sooooo noisy we had a hard time talking, ordering and enjoying. Will not go again until we hear something has been done. Very sad☹️

Coffee maker had broken, so they couldn't serve coffee during Sunday brunch. Had to explicitly ask for an Americano as a substitute, and they charged full Espresso prices for each Americano rather than coffee price as a courtesy. Generally, service was not helpful, friendly, or gracious.

Food was decent, menu is sparse. Ensure your wait staff understands that when you order mimosas (bottomless being the only thing on the menu) that you really did mean bottomless! Mine tried to give me 1 glass, and when questioned wanted to charge me for both =$28.00. Manager resolved, but geez!

Food was good. We've eaten here before on other trips into San Francisco, but the noise level was so high that it really spoiled our dinner. We were at a 2-top and could not hear each other without yelling. So we just didn't talk. Once the happy hour crowd left it was better, but by then we were just done. I wouldn't call it energetic, I would call it loud. Unfortunate, as the food was good but not so amazing that I'll endure the noise to return.

We had an uneven experience on our most recent visit. Huevos Rancheros was excellent; an unusual approach to the classic that worked very well. A couple of our party had the calamari and were very disappointed. One had the cheeseburger, which was overdone. The pulled pork sandwich was good.

Service was indifferent and our server seemed uninterested. Twice she failed to take orders from everyone at the table. We've enjoyed Fog City over the years, but we may have to find an alternative.

We did an early birthday dinner for 8 before boarding the boat to Alcatraz for the night tour. Easy meter parking and walking distance to the ferry. Nice friendly service and good variety on the menu from appetizers to salads and entrees. We had a bit of each. Interesting cocktail offerings. Good non alcoholic choices too. It's not cheap but reasonable given the location and quality.

From the time we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted, seated immediately, although it was busy. Quickly waited on for drinks. Great service. The chicken/apple salad was absolutely delicious, great ingredients and a very tasty dressing. The calamari was done to perfection lightly cooked, fresh and delicious. We will definitely return.

Alas, what once was an excellent place to eat has given up its ambition and has lapsed into an indifferent and unremarkable place. OK service, but the waitperson made a huge mistake, but one we caught, that would have had us paying for our table and the one next door. Poor fish meal, stale bread. But the Caesar salad was good, as were three of the four cocktails. We were disappointed because this place once rightly captured good reviews.

This place had a busy bar scene of hip, young San Franciscans. Waiters were jovial and attentive and the food was very good and presented beautifully. The butterscotch pudding did not have the depth of flavor I like but was still delicious. Our table ordered fried chicken, brisket and gnocchi, salmon and corn. Everybody cleaned their plates!

Our meal overall was great. From salad, to artichokes to sole and salmon with a bottle of Frank Family Chardonnay.. Followed by beignets and coffee. Diner like atmosphere with great high end contemporary food. Highly recommended.

We were surprised at how limited the Brunch menu was. Portions were small, but pricey. A Crab Scramble came served atop one slice of French bread. It looked like an appetizer. The Huevos Rancheros were two tiny, lonesome eggs, with some salsa and jalapenos. No rice, beans, potatoes or tortillas. Just the Huevos. I thought I ordered a basket of onion rings for the table, but what arrived was a small bowl of onion strings. Hardly enough for a group to share more than a few strands. The Pulled Pork sandwich was disappointingly fatty and bland.

I was part of a group of several couples, each of whom ordered one entree and one drink (mostly iced tea, but a few had one Bellini) plus a couple of appetizers for the table. We were all a shocked by the bill, which came to about $75 per couple after factoring in tax and tip.

Way overpriced, underwhelming food, and indifferent service. I wouldn't go back.

Meh. Serviceable. Uninspired. Decent wine list, by glass and by bottle, good wood-fired pizza but otherwise nothing remarkable. The bar is set high in San Francisco and Fog City hasn't kept up. You can rest on your laurels only so long. Also, even though it was not very crowded the evening we were there, it was very noisy due to a couple of very loud groups--not the restaurant's fault but it just added to the lack of a good dining experience.

I was surprised that the restaurant was completely out of bread sticks but especially pizza, a main section of their menu.

Atmosphere was fun, but the noise level was high.

First of all, the bourbon menu was diverse and full of options. That started the evening off wonderfully. The Anejo Old Fashion was an interesting twist also. Fried chicken was the recommended dish which was very good. Great crunch, spicy finish. But, the mashed potatoes were our hit of the evening. It was like dessert. Overall a good time.

Welcome back! Fog City is a reliably fun place with the friendliest staff in town. The food has declined quite a bit since its previous years and it's noticeable. The service is exemplary and the cocktails are fantastic. I'd like to see more paleo friendly and gluten free options beyond salads and I do hope they get back to the insanely great food level that they/we previously enjoyed. Might need a new chef. Seriously. I'll happily come back again and again, but I cannot recommend it to foodies anymore. It's just not there anymore.

Our waitress was not very friendly and the brunch menu is now abysmal. So bummed. They used to have amazing deviled eggs and an old fashioned donut that was delicious, but today the food was just okay. I used to love this place but I probably won't be back.

We have dined at Fog City on numerous occasions with friends and family. On Friday we were seeing out of town friends and picked Fog City for its easy access from the Bay Bridge. We requested a booth away from the main room for less noise. This was confirmed by telephone on Thursday. Upon arrival, we were going to be seated in the main dining room until I objected. After being seated in our requested location, we were ignored by wait staff throughout the meal, so much so that we actually had to get up twice and request service and several times ask passing staff to get us a server. I was embarrassed by our treatment and regretful that I had made the decision to dine there. We will not return to Fog City nor will we recommend Fog City to others.

This was our first visit since Fog City dropped "Diner" from their name. The remodel of the space is attractive, with a much more open layout. (Upgrades to the restrooms also welcome!) We had an excellent Caesar Salad. The Ahi tuna salad was also very good. The pulled pork sandwich may be a little spicy for some, though the accompanying cole slaw will calm the heat. Enjoyed our visit and will make sure we get back sooner than later.
