Flying Vine Lakeside Grille
Only thing was the outside steel chairs were not comfortable. Very slippery
Went here for my birthday, just to try someplace new in Cypress. I had made and confirmed a reservation through Open Table. The hostess couldn’t find it. It didn’t really matter, as there were plenty of tables. Despite being right on the lake, the restaurant is dark, and they did not take advantage of the lake views, as 1/2 of the window was taken up by a private-table room. It is very noisy with concrete floors and no table cloths to dampen the sound. The ambience is more bar than nice restaurant. The waitress was nice, but her inexperience showed when I ordered the Zinfandel wine, and she asked “the red one?” The menu is fairly limited. My husband had the Gorgonzola rib-eye, and I had the pecan-“encrusted” snapper. The entrees came out quickly. The menu only said the pecan-encrusted snapper came with broccolini and a cauliflower purée. Both were tasty. Then, I tried the fish, which was not crusty at all, which was disappointing, and, to my surprise, also had a creamy wasabi sauce on it (which contributed to the lack of crustyness). The sauce was very spicy and really didn’t go well. Some people might like it, but if you are going to serve a dish with such a strongly-flavored sauce, you should mention it on the menu. Had I known this sauce was part of the dish, I might have asked for it to be on the side (which it should be anyway to maintain the crust on the fish). Restaurant 101. Anyway, the waitress was very nice and took it back to have a new piece of fish brought out. I’m not certain whether they just scraped the sauce off and reheated the fish, but it seemed over cooked when it came back. I was hungry, and it wasn’t terrible, so I ate it. The pecan “crust” was still soggy. Dessert was fine, but the donut-hole “bread pudding” could use some sort of sauce to cut the dryness. Probably won’t come back here as it is overpriced for the food quality and ambiance.
Food was simply amazing and staff very friendly and attentive. The chef even visited with us
Happy hour menu is good.
We had a great brunch today outside on the patio! Our server was very sweet, very accommodating on any modifications we asked for. Constantly came out to refill our waters before they were empty without having to ask (something small, but in this heat, stands out). The cocktails were delicious! She informed us that the manager/bartender actually created most of the cocktails, which intrigued us being that we work in the industry. To have that knowledge, backed up by great food, drinks and service is impressive. She also let us check out the dinner menu, and after seeing that we will be coming back to check out the dinner they serve!
Really enjoyed having dinner here. Was just looking at what's in the Boardwalk and this popped up. Food was really good. Service was fantastic. Nice outdoor patio overlooking Towne Lake. Would definitely recommend.
Always a great experience. Highly recommend the pork chop
Very pleased with the brunch, was unique and tasty. Would definitely try it again.
Ask for McKenna. She is engaged and makes the evening enjoyable.
Beautiful restaurant and great service. I would have given 5 stars across the board but my boyfriend received his meal 30 min after everyone else had finished their meal.
Steaks looked smaller than 6oz and were over cooked.
Menu items were not described accurately and arrived differently than what menu said. Poor taste on some items, kitchen was extremely slow and there were only a few tables. Would go back for $3 mimosas but that’s about it. Food quality was lacking and just disappointed overall.
Great food Great place
Great father's day dinner, great cocktails, food and service. Will go back.
Loved the wine options - wish there were more Chiantis to choose from - that's our favorite! Great service - waitress was very friendly - seemed new. The food was a little slow to come out - but was served fresh and delicious. The bartender/manager was very kind and came to our table. We wish there was more of a pizza selection - they have 2 flatbreads, however the crust was thicker than a typical thin flatbread. Wish there was more variety with pizza!
Service was horrible. Our server never once said she was sorry for any of the numerous mistakes that were made, our apps never came out u til AFTER our lunch was served. Had to flag her down to get refills on alcoholic beverages and water. Food, however was delicious. There was no mgmt involved at all during our visit. Overall we will go back and hope to receive better service
Dined here for brunch. Very cold inside. Customer service was however warm and friendly. They appeared to be understaffed but they weren't very busy overall. I would have dined outside but they weren't recommending it and the fans weren't on. The restaurant is beautiful and so is the bar. Lots of seating options. My husband's man mimosa was yummy and strong. My coffee was rich and made fresh. The deviled eggs were presented well but missing seasoning in the yolk mix. Really needed more mayo, mustard, a bit of seasoning salt and fill. The crispy prosciutto was a nice touch.
My husband had the Steak and Egg Ranchero. The crispy potatoes were fantastic but he complained the dish was lacking flavor and seasoning. He hated the guacamole and the steak was a little tough.
I had the Brunch BLT. The crispy potatoes were fantastic and so was the bacon but there could have been more of both. I asked for my eggs fried hard but the yolk was still runny. The bread was too thick. The avocado slices were not fresh. They actually looked previously sliced and frozen and tasted rubbery. Not creamy or fresh. The fried green tomatoes had a lot of breading for such a thin slice. I ended up scraping the avocado, fried green tomatoes and wilted lettuce off the sandwich. I scooped the guacamole from my husband's dish onto my bread but that didn't fix it. I finally picked the bacon off and left the rest.
Price was reasonable. I would come back for their ambiance and endless mimosas but eat elsewhere.
I also thought the ladies room was cute but cramped and the barn doors are a pain. You have to slide it back closed after entering or none of the other ladies have any privacy because you can see right into the ladies room from the dining area. Just kind of gross to do so much touching before going back to your table. Anyway maybe they were having an off day.
Had bit of a shabby appearance inside. Sat at bar while waiting for table. Cocktails are good. Food about average and presentation not so great again. I can make a better looking caprese salad.
My family and I went for Mother’s Day brunch. I enjoyed myself very much for having a 5 year old, a 3 year old and a 6 month old. The service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious! They also had a lady playing a harp and it was beautiful.
We had a lovely Easter brunch at the Flying Vine. While the place is small, it does not lack in taste or service! The shrimp and grits were absolutely delicious. The red velvet french toast was as good as it sounds. My family and I enjoyed our meal, the staff was very attentive and friendly. There was a few tables on the patio, but our table of 6 fit better inside. We were very eased with the atmosphere, very tasteful and even welcoming to our kids. (They had candy filled easter eggs throughout the restaurant that the kids could find and enjoy!) Looking forward to trying the dinner menu as well.
The setting was way too loud. It was very hard to have a conversation.
I had a friends appreciation dinner for my new business and everyone was happy pleased at how beautiful flying vine was, the ambience, the scenery, the wonderful team and staff at flying vine was wonderful, the food was beyond delicious, it was a little trip to food heaven, and omg the moscato!!!
We loved it, very nice spot and not too far from home. We will be back very soon!
Food has definitely got better since the last time we were there. It’s definitely better than most in cypress and I hope business picks up. A little change up to the menu could definitely help business but overall great experience and I would go back.
The risotto bites were very good and the California burger was ok, but honestly, for the price you pay, I would've imagined a homemade bun, or at least something a notch above Mrs. Baird's generic buns.
All in all, a good restaurant, but could improve to a great restaurant with just a few small touches. (i.e. draft beer instead of cans, the first beer I had was 9 months past the brew date)
Great atmosphere, and the food was amazing the lamb lollipop were great!
Food was sorta bland had to add my own seasonings.
Food was delicious. Music too loud.
I wish there were more vegan entrées. Vegans and vegetarians are more and more common now, and there isn’t much of a selection for us. I also thought it was a bit too loud. But hey, it’s in a beautiful location by the water and our waitress was extremely friendly and good, so I will return it!
Having a loud bar and tv does not equate a serene date night. Service was good, food was marginal. The risotto was undercooked and salty, there wasn’t one aspect of the meal that we could say was note worthy. If you choose to sit outside and have a drink it could be romantic. Living in the burbs has left me craving fine dining, driving to the city will continue.
Great food, easy to get a reservation, friendly and helpful staff.
Portions were small compared to the price.
Overall, a pleasant meal and good wine. Service was a tad shaky in the beginning, but she recovered nicely. Snapper was a bit of a miss tonight as it was undercooked, but the ribeye was spot on. The risotto was simply excellent. Liked the risotto ball appetizer a great deal. Dessert was superb. Had the strawberry cheesecake and the fried
Banana pudding donuts (strange but delightful). I am really very glad that we chose to spend Valentine’s Day at The Flying Vine Lakeside Grille.
When we arrived my reservation wasnt showing nor were the 2 parties behind me. It was Valentine's day and they told us to order off the regular menu because the Valentine's menu was not ready. The server was nice but smelled like tobacco smoke which was horrible to deal with. The food was good but not spectacular to say the least. Would probably go back but not anytime soon.
I have heard nothing but great things about the food during Brunch, just haven't been able to fit that in my schedule. Visited for dinner, had a wine flight and Chicken Caprese. The wine flight was good, the chicken was not bad just hard and difficult to cut through. Service was fantastic though, we were quickly accommodated when we asked to move tables because we were cold from the draft from the entrance.
I really want to like this place, but after being there for the third time I just can’t . The service is very slow and the menu is hit or miss not to mention very small. Most of the food is mediocre at best.
Excellent food and excellent service. Steaks cooked to perfection. Great wine selection.
Restaurant was nice ... waiter was pleasant and did not interrupt during the date ... enjoyed the experience...
Excellent red snapper; great service; nice atmosphere
Food and service were amazing! Will definitely come back for special occasions.
