Food was exquisite. Service was polite but perfunctory and rushed. We had the tasting menu and the courses arrived back to back without pause, and the check was delivered only a minute after the last course arrived, with no chance to order coffee or a digestif. I don’t know if this is standard or if there was a staffing issue. We didn’t have a dedicated server checking on us, but instead about half a dozen staff members delivering the food and bill. It was a lovely meal for our anniversary, but we felt rushed and a bit unwelcome.
We did the tasting menu. Every course was more spectacular than the last. Done to perfection. I would only suggest that the menu inform you if there is a hot spice used in a dish. We were (not pleasantly) surprised by one dish that was quite hot. Nonetheless I will come back again and definitely recommend to my friends.

I had heard mixed reviews for Flower + Water, but I was pleasantly surprised. I expected delicious pasta, of course, but the appetizers were the real stars. The veal carpaccio was a delight and I would order it again in a second. My partner and I shared the salumi board which was an exciting flavor adventure - the roman mustard and seasonal pickles brought everything together nicely. We split the aleppo garganelle and tagliatelle with veal bolognese. Both were very tasty, though the tagliatelle was a bit too rich for my taste. Portions were nicely sized and great for sharing. We ordered an obligatory birthday dessert and I'm so glad that we did. The panna cotta with berries and hibiscus was so refreshing; a great end to a great meal!

Met by unsmiling absolutely-non-engaging blonde hostess. She dug through the menus, never looking at us, walked away without a word to a table and dropped menus and left. Really set the evening off with a bad feeling. As I faced the reception desk, I could see this was her pattern. Either she was having a very bad night, or this is always her manner. She was certainly not the person to be a hostess!
The restaurant is very popular because of their reputation for wonderful pasta, but, I think that type of reception is not what they want.
The food was amazing. We ordered 4 pasta dishes and 2 pizzas for 5 people. It was all so delicious and we stuffed ourselves. I think we over ordered but just couldn’t stop eating!
The waiter was friendly and we never felt rushed. The only thing I didn’t like was - we told them we were celebrating two birthdays and is one of the rare restaurants that doesn’t throw in a free dessert or ice cream or something ...hence I took away the stars for service.
We're from Chicago with a daughter living in San Fran. We are huge fans of Flour & Water and always try to get there on every visit. Which my daughter and boyfriend truly appreciate. We LOVE the food, wine, ambiance and incredible staff. Last Saturday, we booked a table of 6 for 10:30pm. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we showed up at 10:59 with a party of 3. Most restaurants would tell us to get lost. Not F&W, they welcomed us with warm, authentic smiles and served us an amazing meal with the same level of integrity and generosity we have come to love. We'll be back. Even if our daughter moves far, far away.
Phenomenal pasta - I don’t know what more to say. The drinks, ambiance, and perfectly cooked pasta made this a “must-return” for us. Can’t wait to come back again!

Always so special to dine here. Definitely the best pasta in San Francisco.
The food was truly amazing! Each pasta was unique and not “run of the mill”. The appetizers were equally delicious...our fave was the grilled asparagus! But a close second was the Fava beans slightly dipped in a “tempura” like batter sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Fantastic, too! The service was attentive and helpful the entire evening altho the restaurant was filled by 545 on Sunday evening! The only complaint was the music volume but that was probably because we are over 60! 🤪 We would return again, in spite of the loud volume of the music because the food was outstanding. Didn’t have any dessert but the choices looked terrific, too.
We had a great time on a spontaneous reservation, post Hamilton with our kids (older kids but still).... 10:30pm res, seated fairly quick - we LOVED the food and as we left about three different people thanked us as we were walking out, it was so noticeable how kind the staff is that we will def return and soon! Again the food and the wine (nero d'avola) fantastic!

I was excited to score a table last weekend, love the décor and the vibe here. The lettuces were very tasty as well as the asparagus appetizer...the pasta...was good but I've had better...honestly I compare everything to the Pasta a la Vodka at Brio which is a chain restaurant in Detroit area (normally don't like chains) and they still win...I had the pasta with the balsamic reduction...good but not to die for...my husband had the veal Bolognese..thought there was something over powering he couldn't put a finger on. The dessert was absolutely delish...was dying to lick the plate...staff were very friendly...really liked the restaurant and would come back...I wished there was a really good red sauce to top the fresh pasta...overall good night out.

what a gorgeous meal! Next time I will go with more people so that we can order more / try more of the options. The pastas were lush AF, and the pizza was fantastic!
The pasta tasting menu allowed us to not think twice about our order and enjoy a magnificent variety. From a fresh mint and cucumber trout crudo, to a ramp and veal tortoletti covered in a rich northern Italy-inspired gravy, every dish was its own unique adventure. The quality of the pasta is at the top of any list I have experienced in the United States.
Way too expensive for the quality of food and the waiter recommended 3-4 dishes which was entirely too much for two guests. Wine pours are small and overall bad value. You can get more bang for your buck at other restaurants in town.

Stellar night. Food was amazing and our server did a great job spacing out the arrival of dishes. Loved the atmosphere of the restaurant. Would recommend to anyone. Just be sure to book a reservation way in advance.
The entire experience at Flour + Water was exquisite! By far the best meal I’ve had. Everything was fresh and delicious—and the menu was so unique as well.
The table seats were so uncomfortable. They really need cushions rather than hard wood. I had to stand up part way through the meal because I was so uncomfortable (and I’m in my early 30s and athletic).
Place was so loud. Felt like we were on a double date w the table next to us because they were inches away and heard every word of their conversation. And the music was terribly loud so it seemed like the table was competing with the music, and us trying to speak over all of that.
Food was good, creative, fresh ingredients, fun wine pairings. Service was great. Didn’t fall in love with any dishes but are still curious to try some of the other pastas one day.

Pasta was outstanding, but very disappointed with the service. Felt like the staff was rushing us. Also had a guest with a shellfish allergy. After confirming that the crudo did not have shellfish, they then brought it to the table and said "it had a trace of shellfish, but so little that my mom - who also has an allergy - can eat it". When we said that wouldn't work and we'll try something else (my friend is highly allergic), they left it at the table and continued to ask if we were ready to order entrees. Encountered a few other instances where the staff appeared unfriendly. Overall for a highly regarded establishment the service was a bit too snooty ... we were excited about the experience and left pretty disappointed.

We arrived at 5:45 and the restaurant was buzzing with loud music and almost full. The menu reflected the season and we picked the swordfish for appetizer. So flavorful.
We ordered a pizza, the best we have ever had. The pasta was made with morels and the sauce was unique and tasty.
Only negative comment- very loud. Hard to hear your conversation. We are going back!
The food was excellent but it was very loud and we were seated in a main walkway so it felt like we were in the way. We could barely hear each other and could hear the table of two 8 inches away way too much.
We went here for my husbands birthday, and not only was the service amazing...he said it was the best meal he’s ever had in San Francisco.
Food was so salty. They didn’t do anything about it when I told them all the dishes were too salty to eat
