What Insiders Are Saying
Flour + Water in the Mission will always be one of our all time favorite Italian spots.
One of my favorite restaurants in SF!
Truly delicious! I'd recommend ordering family style so you can try lots of different dishes - they're all so different and wonderful!
Amazing! This is definitely a place to experience and enjoy delicious and fresh food!
Everything was delicious. Service is good. A little loud.
After years of wanting to go, we finally made it happen. Fantastic food and wine. Server was wonderful. Can’t wait to come back.
This is a fantastic place- the BEST Italian dining I have experienced!!
But if an odd neighbourhood to find this restaurant in, but loved the energy in the restaurant. Food was amazing!!!
Birthday meal! Did the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and it was amazing. Would love to go again!
Overall had a great time. I wouldn’t recommend the tasting for the price - food was good but not worth the price. The dishes other tables got looked amazing so I will definitely do that next time.
Pasta was too fancy for my tastes
Always love Flour + Water! Great food, great wine, great ambiance.
The food was great. Phenomenal actually. The music was very very loud. The seats were comfortable enough.
amazing food, wonderful experience. we were glad we made a reservation - there was a long line of people when we arrived at 5:15 for our 5:30 reservation (on a Monday).
Food was great. But service at the table although ok felt rushed, like they had someone waiting to seat down. The unacceptable part was the attitude of the hostess. To be honest I don’t think I am coming back. There are too many great restaurants in SF to take this attitude for service.
It was as wonderful as I remember the first time was. To make up for a short wait prior to our meal, the chef sent out a small pasta tasting, which was great.
Very very meh. :( I was super disappointed we didn’t enjoy the food more... I went as a first time with my boyfriend who had been raving about his outstanding meal the last time he visited. We both left feeling a little confused... was this really flour & water? Everything was SO SALTY. We physically couldn’t finish our salumi board, or pasta dishes. Everything was so salty it made our mouths pucker.
We loved the squash aranccini- but everything else was pretty lack luster. My duck pasta was swimming in oil, and also very salty. I had very high expectations based on friendly feedback... but man. What a bust. Unsure if we would recommend or return.
Excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend
music was just a bit too loud. everything else was great.
It was disheartening after paying a $600 bill our waitress informed us there were a lot of people waiting and asked if we could leave ASAP. We had just signed the check and were not lingering super long. But it would have been nice to finish our glass of wine and conversation without being told to leave.
Delicious food, especially the pasta dishes. Unusual new addition was scallops -- fabulous flavor. Service was attentive and friendly; staff is always engaging and wonderful. A great place for food and enjoying the evening with a friend or friends.
We really enjoyed our dinner we were most pleased with the appetizers we had two delicious salads. The pasta’s were way too heavy in butter and cheese for us, it kind of overwhelmed the pasta We felt the same way about the pizza it also was really oily. The flavors were excellent just way too much butter and cheese for our liking. I would definitely go back for the salad’s and the wine list was lovely also.
Service is wonderful!
The food however was disappointing. We ordered three dishes for two people. The $60 Milanese was burnt and had to be sent back. The margarita pizza was good but salty. The pasta dish with Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar was swimming in butter.
What shame! 🤷🏻♀️
Not much to complain about. The service was good, we had a good time.
We opted for the pasta tasting menu. All the courses were fair to good. None of hem had the wow factor to it! Just that we have had better Pastas at flour+water. Today was not one of those days.
Went for Valentine's day, and we had a fantastic experience. The food is interesting and delicious, the ambiance is beautiful, and they played the whole SZA record which speaks to me. But be warned: it comes at great expense. Their prices are no joke.
Flour + Water is absolutely my go-to for fancy date nights or other special occasions. They never disappoint, and this time was no exception. The food was incredible, the service attentive, and the mood wonderful.
The pizza is delicious! The crust is amazing!! The pasta dishes are always flavorful!
Great staff, food is spectacular!
Outstanding service and really good food. The place is small and somewhat noisy. We enjoyed our meals and the wine was delicious even at $16 a glass. Prices are reasonable for San Francisco. I’d recommend trying it.
The food was amazing, but the music was a bit too loud for good conversation, which was a bummer given that this was a business meal.
Excellent in every way!
Meh food but VERY good vibes in the restaurant. Super romantic place. Probably won’t go again since the food was not that good. It’s not even about their prices. It’s just that the quality is just NOT there. Not worth the hype :/
context: I am obsessed with pasta and go to different pasta restaurants in the city EVERY week. No joke. When I say the pasta standards are not met, they. are. not. met.
Had a great time. Food was amazing. Was a bit loud so couldn’t enjoy the conversation.
Every dish was inventive, delicious and perfectly executed. However, the service paled in comparison-- rushed and impersonal. The décor also evidenced little effort (surprising given the clear design sense at sister spots Central Kitchen and Salumeria). So will definitely return for the food, but not the dining experience.
Wonderful experience, but music was WAY too loud! We asked to turn down, which they did but we felt like “old people”.
Recently returned to F+W for the first time in a couple years. The ambiance is great. The wine list is interesting and good. The chicory salad and two pasta dishes we had were attractive looking and pretty good, but a restaurant this renowned should be better than pretty good. Note to chef: cut the salt by 50%. We can't taste the underlying good food for the overpowering saltiness of every dish. Service was not attentive, despite the place being nearly empty. And other reviewers are right: turn down the music so we can talk to our dining partners.
Amazing pasta that isn't your typical heavy pasta. It's full of flavor and nuance, but doesn't sit in your stomach like a ton of bricks.
The italian food is pretty good but the prices don't match the quality of the food. The wine list is on the expensive side too.
One of my favorite dining experiences.
Service and food are excellent. Room a little too dark for my liking.
