What Insiders Are Saying
A new restaurant from the people behind Estela, in the Met Breuer museum.
Well crafted cuisine in an iconic architectural landmark setting. The cocktail were equally well crafted, although slightly tart. The ambience was serene in the middle of the day, but active. The service, from the server to the host, was excellent. Both provided our party with excellent recommendations, were polished with clear diction, and provided attention at all the appropriate times. We would be happy to return,
I dont usually give reviews and if I do, I like to give good reviews. However, I feel obliged to alert the public about this place. I would give it no stars if I could. I live in the area and stopped by for dessert with a friend and was extremely disappointed as they managed to get our very simple order wrong and our server Dylan didn't once stop by to apologize, this was surprising as it was a Sunday night and the place wasn't busy at all. We ordered 2 chamomile teas, which our server confirmed as we were ordering but instead, they brought us 2 verbena lemon teas. My friend thought the creme brulee she ordered was salty. To be fair, I enjoyed my hazelnut cream chocolate parfait dessert. We are Latinas and suspect that their extremely poor service was based on their quiet but, by their actions, very salient and loud racism. Especially our server Dylan who managed to get our order wrong and didn't apologize for it and didn't once stop by to see how we were doing. When they finally brought our chamomile teas, these didn't taste like chamomile but like plain water, even after having left the tea bags in the pot for a while. They seemed to have been used chamomile tea bags. My friend noticed our server was talking with a colleague while looking our way and laughing. I am sad to say but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Stay away.
Flora Bar's brunch had some interesting selections, including a seafood sausage composed of lobster, crab, scallops, and shrimp. The sausage was accompanied by cabbage poached in a vin jaune broth. Absolutely delicious. The cabbage had an amazing consistency, the vin jaune broth was heavenly, the sausage itself was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Service was a little dilatory but accommodating and helpful. The light during the day, because of the huge windows, is great, even when the day is overcast.
Great cocktails and has the wonderful ambiance of the Met Breuer museum. Entrees are artistic and delicious. However, the experience is pricey so you might reserve this restaurant for a special occasion.
All the good things — food, service, ambience. Flora Bar will continue to be on our “to do” list for New York!
Portions much too small
Prices very high
Service VERY pretentious
Would not recommend this testaurant
Don’t go for food. It’s a win because it’s inside the museum, looks lovely, close to the museum mile, and a great spot for a break or a date. The service is very intrusive, they don’t care if they interrupted your conversation, so don’t go on your first date. Go for drinks only. They have prices of an upscale restaurant that knows what it’s doing but it doesn’t really know what it’s doing- unless we want to know how to skillfully kill burrata, we don’t want to order their burrata salad.
A little overpriced and not enough casual choices with vegetables
We usually love place, but something seemed to be up. The only two mains that interested us (omelette and halibut) were not available, with nothing offered in their place. Drinks came long after food. Servers were forgetful though apologetic. Everybody gets to have an off day but at this price level it’s a little hard to swallow.
Very nice. The food is delicious and the place wonderful
Very knowledgeable staff, both about the food at the wine list
Nice wine list and some very good dishes. Highly touted lobster dumpling was greatly over salted. Shellfish very good.
what a fun find--even my vegetable hater husband loved the beets here, and the staff was delightful. highly recommend for a couple
Flora Bar is a unique and memorable experience. I've dined there several times and have never been disappointed, and can't wait to go back again. The Clams and the Lobster Dumplings are a must-try!
I've been often having both dinner and lunch at Flora . The food is extraordinary, the atttention superb ,
the choice of wines huge , as well as drinks .
It has a avery interesting menu ,you can have a regular three or two curses meal but there's such a choice that you can have a tasteful and original meal of tapas sharing with others .
Some hits of the menu : quite unique the urchin starter and the red endives with pecan salad .
Absoluty worth visiting it !! It's located at the Met Breuer and the architecture of the building is to die for !
The decoration respectful of such a beautiful building .
The restaurant is beautiful, great ambience. The menu could use a bit more options...service was great!
It’s a lovely space, big and open, yet at the table intimate. I ordered the steak and candied beets, between the uniquely cooked beets, the steak done perfectly and the flavors together, made it a meal I won’t forget. My wife ordered a dish she didn’t quite care for (she can’t do too much acidity) we seldom order a dish then return it based off our personal taste but the staff was extremely accommodating, polite and quick when she decided to order the chicken. The sign of a great restaurant is how well the chicken is cooked: it was superb! Juicy, tender and very flavorful. It was a great romantic dinner at flora and we’ll be sure to book another table when we’re back in town.
Excellent on all points
While the food was tasty, there’s nothing I feel like is worth returning for. Ex., the lobster/crab dumplings were good but the Yusuf broth was extremely salty.
I feel like you’re paying for location more so than the menu. $24 for 4 lamb ribs?
It was very good, service was friendly and the food was delicious!!!
Perfect for a lunch with friends
Will go back
The menu layout is confusing. It would be easier to navigate if the format was small, medium and large or snack, starters mains. Instead of 20 starters and 4 mains.
The only stand out dish was the chicken and chicory but I’ve no idea why it had half of avocado with it but this was delicious. Service was not sincere and slow. Noticed other tables got bread but there was none on the menu to order and none was offered to us. The snow crab was clearly bought in cooked in brine, it was salty and dry. Tuna tartar was nice. Potatoes croquettes were a total rip off and under seasoned.
The view of the empty terrace made the restaurant look cheap and canteen like.
Cocktail were very good.
Great service well cooked nicely presented food and good ambience - not your average museum cafe!
Flora Bar seems to be a different restaurant on a Sunday. The food and service are so much better on a weekday. Fortunately the wines are still good. Will not go there again on a Sunday.
Great setting, really great food, expensive, but wonderful wine
very sophisticated and delicious food. Remarkable menu on a variety of whiskey. We definitly will come again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal there and will return
Great wait staff. We enjoyed our meal. Happy to return.
We had a wonderful meal there. The service was excellent and the food exceptional. Love the setting as well.
Good food. Very bad service.
Left my credit card behind and staff and management made it impossible for me to get it back.
Have never experienced such bad and unresponsive service from a fine dining establishment.
We went for lunch And the service was so slow !!!!
My salads had to much dressing !
No vegan starter or main course on the menu !!!
It’s a beautiful place but it need to be more professional and up to date the menu for those who cares for the climate change ....
We are regulars at Flora. Has been our favorite restaurant on the east side BUT on Sunday night, they were apparently understaffed in the kitchen and we had to wait an unbearably long time for every course. In fact our entree came just as we were about to leave. Fish overcooked and bun on my waygu burger was burnt to a crisp. If this had been our first time, we would never have gone back. Our server was great and apologetic -- and did take off the fish entree and gave us free drink. Still, a very disappointing experience.
The space is hip and interesting. The photos are a bit misleading however, when on the premise you immediately realize you are eating in a basement.
The food was adequate, nothing extraordinary. The cocktails were the real homerun of the evening.
I love everything about Flora Bar except the slow, inattentive service and portion size of meat based entrees and martinis, but the service is the real issue. When we ask for ice or water or anything else, it takes forever to get the item. Our friend's martini took a long time to arrive and the drink was smaller than the martinis he has had elsewhere; in fairness, I don't drink martinis and thought the shape of the glass might make a person think the drink looks small. Our creme brulee dessert was thrown on the table as if we were at a diner, which was disrespectful to the chef because it was one of the best creme brulees we have had! The beef entree our friend ordered seemed very small. The salads, halibut, and tuna are appropriate sizes, and fantastic! The waitress who took our order was warm and welcoming, but the people who brought the food were indifferent.
Love the food and amazing architecture
The croquettes were cold in the middle; the kids’ waffles were sad, lukewarm and deflated; the eggs in the shake hula were partially raw. Inattentive service. I was so very disappointed in our lackluster brunch.
Had the best meal and best time! Ignacio is an amazing chef!!!
A Devine experience in an environment that provokes all of the senses. The menu was exceptional through out all courses.
The food was excellent but the portion of the main course was minimal and only accompanied by a couple of leaves. The portion of my fish was tiny and for the price it was too small and measured.
Price is too expensive for the size of the portions
Excellent and attentive service.
