What Insiders Are Saying
Finally we can get a taste of the Aussie life without risking the chance of dying at the hands of a 9_ insect with fur. Just head to Avenue A and eat at Flinders Lane, our new East Village staple spot.
Flinders Lane is a casual LES spot that delivers on flavor. Reflecting the Asian centric melting pot that is modern Australia the menu draws heavily from the SE Asian spice box.
The nods to Australia’s English roots are reflected in the specials which deliver English inspired staples with a flavorful twist.
Service is warm and friendly and Flinders Lane is suitable for a get together with friends as well as a casual work dinner.
Flinders Lane is a fairly new restaurant in my neighborhood I've been meaning to try. I've spent extended time in Australia, most recently in Melbourne, where I toured Flinders Lane, one of its alleys. So I arranged to meet a visiting Australian friend there for dinner.
It is a physically inviting place with tables open to the sidewalk, and the noise level, mainly conversation, was loudish but not overpowering. The menu was odd and disappointing, with few dishes that were typically Australian, or reminiscent of the varied and excellent cuisine in Melbourne. The curry we both ordered, while well-spiced, was thin and stingy on the seafood and vegetables. What redeemed it was the atmosphere, the friendly and competent server, and the all night happy hour $6 wine and dollar oysters.
My sense is that the food there might be better on any night but a Monday, which is typically when regular chefs are off and seafood less than fresh so I'm willing to give it another chance.
I've been to Flinder's Lane before, and absolutely loved it! However, I made a reservation for 10pm the other day, but when we arrived, the woman in the restaurant told us it was closed. I was very disappointed! Why would there be available time slots for when the restaurant was closed?
Loved the great Aussie house wine and happy hour appetizers!
Visiting from London and had heard about Flinders Lane - we were not disappointed.
The food was incredible and the service wonderful. Our host, Alan, was so good to us and the chef sent out dish after stellar dish that left us amazed.
Highly recommend for the low key neighbourhood vibe but with 5 star food and service.
Great flavors, on the menu and from the bar, casual vibe
My family and I had a wonderful dinner. We decided to try the Feed Me tasting menu, and it was a great decision. Every dish was tasty, the scallops and coconut curry in particular. Only the kangaroo was a bit disappointing (the sauce overwhelmed the meat) but didn’t stop us from eating every bite. The wine choices made the perfect accompaniment.
amazing food, service, everything!!! Thank you!
We have been going to this restaurant since it opened and it never disappoints. Great wine selection as well. Our go to whenever we are in the city. Amazing food and very friendly service. Our home away from home ❤️
Great spot worth coming to if it’s not in your neighborhood. Good tastful dishes nicely prepared. Friendly and welcoming staff.
I can’t say enough about this restaurant. It’s my go to, for casual dinner with friends or anniversary dinner with family. The food is wonderful. No overwhelming menu. Great specials. And they do a sampling menu for larger parties which is tremendous. Alan, the host is lovely. He makes you feel special, and always has good recommendations on food selection and wine. In fact all of the staff I have encountered have been great. You have to go!!!!!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC! Get he sausage roll, san Choi bao, and the espresso martini. You’re welcome. :)
Laksa was good, everything else was meh
The menu had a lot of different options and the prices were very reasonable. The reason I gave it a 4 is because I felt like the waitress was a little overworked and so didn’t take our drink order for a long time after we sat and although the food was good it wasn’t something to rave about. The best thing we had on the menu was the salt and pepper squid.
excellent as always! the food is authentic and there's always a great buzz even though it's a tiny, cozy spot.
I have eaten at Flinders Lane on several occasions and always enjoy it. Its a great spot.
Incredibly rude waitperson became progressively more challenging throughout the meal. Probably without this person the experience would have been much better, although the small menu and the weird Asian/fusion type dishes made it considerably less than memorable.
We were here for year end dinner. The attention was very good. The food was great, we choosed the option “feed me”. Was very good.
The quality of the food combined with the excellent personal service and beautifully quite ambiance makes Flinders Lane one of the best venues in the East Village if not in New York City.
Great food, really nice setting, excellent service and reasonably priced (when compared to other restaurants of this very high quality). The type of place that makes the expense and stress of living in NYC completely worth it. Fingers crossed that the owners will be able to navigate the treacherous waters of NYC real estate/business operations for many years to come.
The food is amazing at this restaurant. Not only that their wine selection is great as well.
My wife and I ate here late on a weekday as her birthday celebration, and were impressed by the food quality, the wine quality, and the excellent service. The kale salad – a twist on a Caesar, with plentiful anchovies – was huge, the hanger steak was perfect in every way. The very reasonable Voyager Estate cabernet/merlot was a terrific find. Throughout the evening the service was superb; friendly yet totally unobtrusive. We were in the area to try the several world class cocktail bars, and will definitely return for dinner.
This is my favorite restaurant in NYC. Quirky place, intimate, not at all stuffy. Service is great, attentive but not in your face! Small menu, but great.
The Hand Made Papperdell Pasta is phenomenal!
Great Food and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great wine recommendations! Thumbs up all the way!
Lovely date-night at a high table - it was perfect for us. It was a bit more lively (ie noisy) near the bar so take your pick. Tye menu was great and the only difficulty was deciding what to order.
Nice ambience, dinner menu not so great
This place never fails in its quality of service, food and overall good vibe! Love ya Mate
Really cute place, great food and great service. I’m sorry I didn’t come here sooner. I’ll definitely be back. Great bartender as well.
Great hole in the wall, very quaint and pretty and authentic. Absolutely a neighborhood gem.
Great ambience, good food and superb drink menu. Great place to get together with friends.
We went for Restaurant Week, but decided to go with the "Feed Me" option, where it's the Chef's Choice. Portions were fairly big, so you definitely felt satisfied. The wait staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. I definitely look forward to going back!
Very nice appetizers and wine. Had the hanger steak which was pretty good, nothing amazing - last time I came here the steak was better. Laksa looks very good. Nice atmosphere, can get quite noisy. Nice service, very chilled out waiters.
The meal was nicely prepared and presented, but god the place is noisy. Apparently many people aren't having a good time unless they are screaming. The waiter, who has been there forever, was about as disinterested as he could be in helping us. We sat down at 7:15, were told happy hour ends at 7:00, but the board outside clearly states until 7:30. Menu clarifications were offered with no enthusiasm. Then we had to flag him down finally to order. After staring at our empty dinner plates for 15 minutes, I practically had to tackle someone to remove them.
The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent. A good East Village vibe. Understand they are opening a place in Stamford CT as well. Highly recommended.
Great options for Restaurant Week as well as the regular menu. The happy hour was great; the sparkling white wine for $6 is a deal. Food was very yummy and well displayed. The waiter and waitress were attentive.
Tried the restaurant week menu. The balsamic tomato salad was generously sized and tasty. The seafood laksa didn't have enough noodles or crab and the meringue on the pavlova was sickeningly sweet. Great service though.
We thought we were going down under once we read that this restaurant was Australian themed, but it turns out its people were more Australian than the food.
We arrived when the restaurant just opened at 11am on Friday, sonit was of course quiet. Service was fast and authentic with a proper good'day.
There was a special watermelon salad, which was perfect for the hot morning sun. The egg on toast with avocado, also farm fresh. I washed mine down with an iced coffee.
I will definitely go back for dinner. If you are into trendy design, it's also worth a trip. Just don't expect any shrimp on the barby.
Very nice food .. good selection for the restaurant week as well. I really enjoyed my dinner!
