Staying at the Omni to enjoy our first time visiting beautiful Providence, we were looking forward to dining at Flemings as we love the one in Boston. Sadly, it never happened…
We had a 715p reservation last night (a Wed evening) and arrived promptly at 715p. We were sat at a booth in the far end of the dining room by a bubbly hostess who shared having the daytime off to enjoy the beautiful weather. There were only 4 other parties seated in the dining room, it was very quiet.
Roughly ten minutes into being seated, we had still not been greeted by our server, despite multiple servers walking past our booth repeatedly, one of whom has to have been assigned to our table. Someone in a suit (manager?) seemed to take note that we were looking around wondering if we would receive any service, so he came to greet us and removed the two extra place settings on our table. He was friendly.
We waited another 7-8 minutes, and observed servers continuing to pass by, and serve and engage with other patrons. I began to question if we were underdressed and intentionally being ignored, but realized we were dressed perfectly fine. At this point, and especially being a reputable and higher end restaurant where we assumed we would have been greeted and at least offered water within a few minutes of being seated, we decided to leave.
No one seemed to notice, though the hostess, who had just sat us 17 minutes earlier, says as we pass by “Have a great rest of your night!” Really?
Suffice it to say, everything happens for a reason. We decided to walk over to the Capital Grille, and proceeded to enjoy an absolutely phenomenal meal, and incredibly attentive service, despite their staff having twice the number of patrons to take care of at the same time.
