Recognizing that many restaurants remain short staffed, I write this after seeing other tables turned over way faster. We were there for 3 hours (not wanting to spend that much time). Our cocktails took 20 minutes minimum each time we ordered. Food took for.ev.er. So much so, we only ended up eating hummus and Salatim (neither of which have any cooking prep required). There was no apology or even acknowledgment offered for the SEVERE delays. No comped anything. During the three hours we were there, we saw multiple tables flip much faster. This was ultimately my wedding rehearsal dinner so it fell short of what I had hoped for.
The food and drinks were good but the terrible service totally overshadowed the good.
Amazing food, patio and service.
Amazing food and great service! Very safe indoor dining precautions.
We enjoyed sitting in the bubble at Fiya. Good was very good. Would love to see more options for vegetarians.
Thanks Parita. But the menu is already at least 50% vegetarian!?
We reserved a bubble outside. It was so covid safe, they don't enter your bubble the entire time and just unzip it to hand you your food and rezip. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable. I'd note they stick to the 1.5 hour reservations and remind you. I didn't mind since I know they need to turn over these few bubbles to make enough to be open. I cannot recommend this spot enough! Everything we ordered was delicious, but we loved the bread boats the best!
Thanks for the thoughtful words, Cori!
Delicious food. Great ambiance. Very Covid safe. Awesome outdoor bubbles. Highly recommend will be back.
Great food and great service. Will be a staple now!
Server was terrible - the food was good but not enough garlic or spice - really food from the Levant? It seemed quite americanized in that the flavor profiles were way too dulled down.
Wine was so-so, and in short - other than the hummus and the oven fresh pita (which had no flavor but nice consistency), I would not recommend.
Well, the chef is Israeli, as are many of our customers. Your author has been to Israeli twice for extended visits. Respectfully, I don't think you know of what you speak. Have you ever been to the Levant? Israeli cuisine is quite varied, having something like 180 distinct ethnic groups but, very generally, the use of garlic tends to more subtle than potent. It's not like Sicilian cuisine. Fiya is routinely cited as having the best hummus and pita in the city, a point for fair debate admittedly.
Fiya was lovely. We sat in the bubble and it felt very safe. The food is so so good.
Second time here in two weeks. Different friends and some different food but everything was exceptional. The chicken, cauliflower, French fries, pita, hummus, lamb meatballs were all wonderful. We again sat in a heated bubble on the patio, which felt very safe and kind of warm. Great service, though they really kept to their 90 minute restriction so it felt a little rushed. Looking forward to sitting on their patio, unbubbled and unmasked! Great place!!
Thanks Meta! We look forward to those days too, and relaxing that 90 minute rule. It's sort of a survival thing, that will limited seating we need to turn as many reservations as we can in a day.
For my first visit post-vaccine to DINE IN, in a YEAR, it was quite the treat. All the food was delicious, the service was excellent. Their set up is very good, no issues with any safety protocol. We enjoyed ourselves immensely!
The bread pudding is to die for. Leave room!!
Welcome back Chgo! Happy days are here again? That bread pudding is made by master baker Eileen at our little bakery, Geraldine's, in Lincoln Square.
Unfortunately the outdoor "bubbles" have only a tiny heater and even with 6 people in the bubble and heater on it was FREEZING. They didnt turn the heater on ahead of time which may have helped?
The heaters and bubbles add ~30 degrees to the outside temperature, so it depends on your expectation. It is outdoor dining and will never be the same as indoor. And we have indoor seating!
I had a lovely experience at Fiya! The food was very diverse and had a great twist on traditional Mediterranean classics. I had the lamb sausage pita and it was excellent. Make sure you come hungry! Portions seemed large. Our server Jacob was wonderful and all Covid safety precautions were being observed.
Thanks Gretchen! Jacob has been with us for years, and is a favorite.
Thanks Anony! You're awesome.
Wonderful experience yet again! This was our second visit and it did not disappoint; in fact it wowed our companions and they too want to come back. The fresh-made pita from that big oven you see when you walk in is stellar. The hummus omg the hummus. I'm not usually a fan but this hummus is different. Silky and flavorful, it's worlds better than the store bought crap. The roasted cauliflower this time was incredible as well - the first time it felt limp and not so interesting, but this time the texture was perfectly chewy with a slight bite.
Safety-wise, Fiya also delivers. The outdoor bubbles are comfortable and warm with the heaters, and the staff go to all lengths to be sociable and yet safely distanced. Fiya is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood, and we will definitely be back!
Fiya last night was okay
All around the food was great; however, the service was sub par even under pandemic circumstances. We had ordered several dishes that never came out and were only informed that they were "out" after we had inquired about the missing dishes. We were here for a family member's birthday as well so it was rather disappointing when they forgot his, as well as other's drinks. They have a 90 minute time limit per table, which is completely understandable, but we were really taken aback when the server came to let us know that we only had 30mins left even though we STILL had not receive one of our appetizers and two of our entrees! We had really high hopes but were pretty disappointed especially given how good the food actually was.
Thanks Justy. I am circulating your comments among our team. We got slammed that Saturday, the first warm one, and were still operating with a pretty slim winter/pandemic staff. And I know we ran out of a number of dishes. This weekend looks equally nice but we're ready.
The ambience (indoors and outdoors) and service were great, but all of the food was lacking flavor.
Well, this is an outlier?
Amazing experience. Delicious food.
Thanks Leya! You're amazing.
My friend and I had a wonderful dinner. I am already planning my next evening! The food was wonderful (what a chicken!) and the service was excellent, attentive and Covid-safe. It was my first “bubble” experience, and I was surprised how warm and comfortable I felt. Those heaters really work well. We had lap blankets with us, useful in covering chilly metal chairs, and I would recommend diners bring their own. The weather was cooperative, 35 degrees and windless. Servers never got to close either, just passed our food thru zippered panels. Get the chicken, French fries and tomato soup—comfort food at its best! It was VERY nice going out for dinner again. Great experience!
Thanks Meta! It seems like warm weather is just around the corner although, as a Chicagoan, I am skeptical of my optimism.
Great place to get some authentic Mediterranean Food! Wonderful ambience by a wood-fire stove, perfect for a romantic evening for two. The staff here are incredibly friendly and outgoing, making the experience all the more worthwhile. All-in-all, highly recommend the spot.
Thanks Busha! The staff are a nice bunch.
The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is lovely and the staff are some of the nicest in Chicago. 10/10!
Thanks Emily! Sending your comments to our friendly staff (when they've gotten enough sleep).
This is such a lovely place, love the decor and the ambiance. Only issue I had was with our main dish. My husband and I went for our first to Fiya and decided to try their Valentines pre fix menu. It started very good, the salad was delicious and also the Moroccan cigar (I think inside was filled with sweet potatoes) then for the main dish they had something call Lamb Shishbarak (lamb dumplings) spice rice stuffed onion. Hubby and I decided to try the dumplings since the stuffed onion server advised it didn't come with any meat. When the plate arrived I tried maybe 2-3 bites but my husband couldn't eat more than 1. This plate was not tasty at all, dumplings were chewy and the meat didn't taste good. We both were trying to finish the plate but we couldn't it just didn't feel right. For our surprise we had another couple next to us and they also couldn't finish their plate, they ordered also the dumplings. Last but not least finally arrived dessert and this one was DELICIOUS, a huge strawberry cake with 2 chocolate truffles. In overall we had a great time, they just need to remove this plate for their menu because it was a total failed.
Thanks Kalish. Passing along your comment to the kitchen. If you want to send me either your email or phone, I'll send you a gift card for a future visit. (Contact me/us on our website as OpenTable won't allow posting an email address here.)
Obsessed! I want to live inside of that pita oven!
$1,000/mo rent, but all utilities included. Thanks ABD!
We didn't know what to expect, but now we can't wait to come back! Amazing food--no matter what you order.
I had really high hopes for Fiya! Unfortunately it fell quite short. We ordered the shakshuka with lamb sausage which ended up being really bland and moroccan fish which showed up undercooked (sent back). The hummus with steak was great and the warm baked pear cocktail saved the night. Probably won't return.
We had a wonderful experience at Fiya. The food was fantastic. We got the falafel and humus appetizer and the pick 4: labbnah, pickled vegetables, cauliflower, and sun dried tomatoes. For our entre I had the chicken schnitzel pita. I was very impressed by their pita breads, they were to die for. The service was timely and friendly. Their drink menu was large and they had a great selection of draft beers to choose from. Overall, would definitely recommend this place for their unique menu and great atmosphere. I’m glad to see this business was able to operate with safe covid measure for indoor dining!
Thanks Anon! We're hanging in there. Good times ahead (knock on wood).
Great! Really very tasty food.
Open table wants me to write at least 50 characters
Food and ambiance was great! Would highly recommend their bubble outdoor seating however the 90 minute time limit was frustrating.
Thanks Amy! With limited seating (only 6 tables prior to the partial return of indoor seating) because of the pandemic, many restaurants have added time limits to allow us to accommodate more parties. Hopefully more seating is returning and we get rid of the limits.
Amazing food- might be the best Pita and falafel in Chicago?! Dining in the outdoor bubbles felt safe and sanitary and although our server never physically entered our bubble he checked in with us regularly and gave us excellent service.
Thanks Julie! Bubbles are us.
Delicious med food! Very pleased with the quality especially at such a reasonable price point! Our waiter was so great, enthusiastic and made us a special cocktail he’d been working on when we wanted to stray off menu. Can’t wait to go back !
Everything clean and social distanced. Service was fast and friendly. Will come back soon
Word of advice- GET THE CAKE!
Thanks Anon! (Passing your comment along to Eileen, pastry chef.)
Very enjoyable dinner and wine in the bubble.
Whole chicken was really juicy perfect dinner for outdoor winter dining.
Look forward to going back soon.
Food was great, heaters in Igloo's did not warm the place up much, I won't be back until eating inside is safe.
This place was awesome! Best hummus I've ever had. The bubbles felt very COVID safe and were warm enough to just wear a sweater. 10/10
We had an excellent pandemic dining experience here! The bubbles are heated with space heaters, so we still dressed a little warm, but it was very comfortable the night we were there (about 30 degrees). The food was amazing! Everything in the salatim was really good, the pitas are huge. Felt really safe, the waiter never entered our bubble but passed things through the zippered door, and we were completely separate from other people dining. Already talking about going back, would highly recommend!
Thanks EG! It's an odd time, but the bubbles are probably a keeper even when we return to "normal".
This is the third time I go to Fiya. I love their food. It is always fresh and generous. Service is great. They have tents for outdoor sitting and they are very safe about covid. Highly recommend!!
Who would’ve thought you could take your coat off when eating ‘outside’ in Chicago in January? Loved the beautiful patio, the cozy heated igloo and the food, especially the hummus and roasted cauliflower
Thanks Anon! It's a new world.
The food at Fiya is phenomenal. Everything was just delicious. That said, they were OUT of hummus and OUT of steak. Not sure how a middle eastern restaurant runs out of hummus but...Since we were planning to order hummus as an appetizer along with falafel and a steak on pita sandwich as our main courses, it was a bit of disaster. We ended up ordering a whole smoked chicken and it was juicy and yummy. I realize it’s not the servers fault, but we did think it was a little odd not to tell us that as soon as we sat down and or give us a free dessert or discount or something like that. So, while we enjoyed the food we did get and loved the outdoor dining bubble, I can only give the restaurant three stars overall.
I am forwarding your comments to encourage more efforts to not run out of hummus, but it will happen. We make it fresh daily and don't serve day old.
