Fishwife's Clam Chowder
Home made with cream, potatoes, onions, clams garnished with our salsa fresca
Strips breaded upon order (without tentacles) served with our Caribbean tartar sauce
The food came out super fast. Our entire meal with appetizer was 40 mins. Ordered the mahi fish bowl. Bland, no seasoning on the mahi, the black beans were cold. The veggies were barely cooked and no seasoning as well. I left hungry
Great local and affordable seafood restaurant in Pacific Grove
Mahi mahi bowl is excellent!
Absolutely outstanding food!!!
We ordered fish and it was just ok I think we should have tried the Caribbean items
Enjoyed our evening dinner very much, great service, great food.
Excellent excellent EXCELLENT food!!! There wasn't even time to take a picture of it. Drinks were great as well, generous pours. Loved the seaside, Caribbean vibe and the friendly service.
This is the 3rd time I've eaten here while on a trip to this area. Food has consistently been excellent. Will be back again.
The best calamari steak in the world, and at a very reasonable price!
Average all around
This was the first time to eat here. Service was the best, especially while other establishments are having staffing issues. There were several different people stopping by the table to see how we were doing. Loved the attention. I had the Cajun sea bass over lobster ravioli, I highly recommend it to anyone. My wife had the Baja bowl and she couldn’t finish it due to the fact it was a large portion. The only knock on the food was the clam chowder, it reminded us of a gravy. Not the best we have had in Monterey. But over all our first experience was fantastic. We will definitely be back.
Always a favorite when visiting Monterey. Outstanding clam chowder, tostaditas, lobster ravioli with a Cajun seabass, and of course the key lime pie. We’ve been coming here for years and it’s always consistently outstanding. It’s an old building but we come here more for the food and not the atmosphere.
The food was great, the service was below average. I would eat there again.
Very welcoming and friendly. We had the Asian Ginger Salad and 1 Barramundi Dinner plus 1 Lemon Caper Sole Dinner All were delicious and the presentation was very colorful and appealing. Highly recommend.
Consistently great service and delicious food! One of my favorites. I recommend it to everyone.
It was apparent this is a favorite of locals. Service was excellent. The chef really knew how to prepare the fish, not overcooked and the wine and cream sauce was delicious. I quizzed the boss, most of the staff have been there 15-20 years. I think that speaks volumes! Definitely a good find.
Menu selection combined with quality of preparation makes Fishwife a go-to place. Like the fact that we fit right into the front door with the locals - just far enough away from the tourist side of Monterey, that it retains a full house of locals. Worth using the GPS...
Fresh fish was very good and we appreciated the recognition of our anniversary. We will return again and recommend this place to anyone wanting good value for fresh fish meal.
This is a neighborhood type place, very unfancy. Service was attentive. Food was good, hearty. But not fine dining.
The restaurant is very simple, the food quite enjoyable. Very fresh and original. Always enjoy coming here when in PG
Hawaiian bowl and seafood alfredo were both good. Service was good.
Of all the places to choose from, we chose Fishwife-and weren't disappointed. Their take on seafood pasta was imaginative and delicious. Parking was a little problematic, but not worth missing a unique meal over.
This is a favorite of ours for over 20 years. The food is always fresh and I like the diverse menu and atmosphere. You can't go wrong and the prices are very reasonable!
Great time ., very friendly
The fish in the fish 'n chips had a heavy coating, cornmeal the menu said. The fish also seemed a bit moister than I preferred. I tried their coleslaw, vinegar based and had a good amount of unexpected heat.
My next visit I will probably try something not coated and deep fried.
Deserts look great but I just did not have room for one, sadly.
Good drinks and food good, not great. However, i would go back for dinner.
Great local establishment with great service and delicious food.
One of my favorite places to eat! Great service, delicious food and drinks. We had mahi-mahi and the Tilapia, both were wonderful. We also started with the chowder, also delicious!
We have eaten here before, and really liked it. This time, there were problems. It became terribly crowded and very noisy. The servers were professional but the food did not seem as good as previously.
I think it is probably best to go for lunch, when it is generally quieter and the cooking is better.
We had a reservation and arrived to a very friendly staff and our table already prepared. We ordered a couple appetizers and main dishes- everything was then brought at once-10 minutes after we ordered. Typically this quick turn around would be appreciated. Except when trying to enjoy a starter prior to our entree. One of us tried the seafood Alfredo. It was not Alfredo sauce- only watery cream. There were small frozen shrimp and one big scallop. The sesame ginger salad was lackluster, very little flavor. One of the people in our partys food which was his main entree was never brought. A couple arrived shortly after we arrived for desert only and was told the restaurant was closing. It was not closing, we had only been there for 5 minutes. Everything seemed rush- as if the staff wanted to close early and did not give us a traditional restaurant experience. Overall it was a very disappointing dining experience and unfortunately no one in our party intends on returning.
The bartender/server was the best! He was attentive, friendly and made my cocktail as requested. I had coconut shrimp and cup of clam chowder. Both were delicious!
We love the Fishwife!! This trip it was just OK! My beans weren’t warm, the rice was plain white rice…hohummm!
It was our anniversary and the food, service was impeccable!
This has been one of our “go to” places for years. The staff is friendly and helpful. The service is top notch. The food is very good, with an extensive menu.
Wonderful food. The seafoods Alfredo was so packed with seafood you could barely find the pasta. Sauce was beautifully matched to let the seafood shine through.
We had a 7 pm reservation but had to wait 15-20 mins for an outside table. But, the oysters, coconut shrimp, sole were excellent! The bread pudding with bourbon cream sauce was to die for. We were very happy and got to be with our dog as well.
Fishwife used to be one of my favorite restaurants. However during our recent visit we found the food to not have much flavor at all and probably won't return again.
Good food, unique recipes
