Fishing With Dynamite Ratings and Reviews
Overall great experience! The food was outstanding, we shared a few different plates and had no complaints. Tables next to us had massive raw platters that looked incredible- will definitely go back to try. Definitely a more beach casual vibe - I felt overdressed in a dress.
Absolutely fantastic! I took my girlfriend for a Valentine’s Day meal on the 13th and everything was amazing. We had been once before and been blown away, so we came back and were definitely not disappointed. The ambiance, music, service, and most importantly the food were all incredible. Highly recommend the octopus, oysters, ceviche, squash rolls, clam chowder. The banana toffee cream pie was out of this world - one of the best desserts I’ve ever had! Will definitely be back again.
One of my favorite restaurants of all time! Been to FwD quite a few times now, and it is always a wonderful experience. From the kind staff to the amazing food, you will leave with both your palate and your soul satisfied. I love to cook and have tried combining different flavors, but their choices are so unique and blend together so wonderfully that I am always pleasantly surprised. The unique flavors come to life from fruits and vegetables (not butter and salt like a lot of restaurants use to enhance flavors). I’ve tried almost their entire menu, but my favorites are: Yellowfin Tuna Crudo (pictured), Hamachi (pictured), Grilled Octopus, Fried Soft Shell Crab (seasonal), Koshihikari Rice, Seared Diver Scallops, New England Clam Chowdah’, and their raw Peruvian Scallops. I also always order something from their specials. Your taste buds haven’t lived until you’ve tried Fishing with Dynamite! Now for a little bit about their wonderful staff… They found out it was my birthday and sent over a complementary dish that was delicious. Then, they overheard that we were planning to pick up some ice cream for our kids (we live about 40 minutes away… yes, we make the trip out to MB just to eat here!) and offered to pack the ice cream in ice so it doesn’t melt. So we go to the Manahattan Beach Creamery and buy a few pints of ice cream, then come back to FwD to pick up the ice. They have it nicely packed in a Ziploc bag, and have thrown in their epic Key Lime Pie (pictured) as a surprise! This pie is so delicious that when I’ve had friends who don’t even like key lime pie try it, they end up loving it. I have been making fresh key lime pie from scratch for years, and I will admit, this one is the only one I’ve tasted that is better. And their Banana Toffee Cream Pie is so delicious you might find yourself dreaming about it. You really need to try this place!
Small restaurant and all of the tables and seating is up against your neighbor so get used to being friendly and overhearing conversations. Raw bar was amazing and shrimp with a little dill and lemon were great, no cocktail sauce needed. Squash rolls were fine but not outstanding as was the grilled octopus. Both items I would be fine ordering again as they were not bad, just didn't standout to me. Crab cake in the remoulade was good and not full of filler which I enjoyed. Only issue with this restaurant is the price of the food which is all very overpriced for what you get and wouldn't exactly compare to fine dining.
Food was excellent. Perfect jumbo shrimp to start. The scallops with yams, pomegranate and brussel sprout leaves were melt-in-your-mouth. Terrific desserts of key lime pie and bread pudding with sea salt caramel and pretzels-- both had lovely sweet/sour combinations. My only beef is that the noise level was very high, which keeps it from being a 5 overall. It was deafening at 12:45 pm on a Saturday but was better by 2:00.
Fishing with Dynamite never disappoints! We go there for all special occasions and sometimes just for the heck of it. The food and service is amazing and I always enjoy the wine recommendations. It is absolutely the best and most consistent restaurant in the South Bay.
Excellent food, ambiance, service.
Primarily fish, very local, very fresh. Much of it is raw but I had the Cod which was cooked and fantastic with a farro, pomegranate base. My husband loved his raw fish (hamachi I think). Octopus was tender and flavorful.
Highlight was the Bread Pudding Dessert. Probably best dessert of the year!
Will be back! Small place so make reservations. We heard about this place while in Hawaii. Made sure to catch it while visiting LA. Heard their sister restaurants, MB Post and Arthur J's are also great
Service was OUTSTANDING. My only complaint was that the music was a little loud. We were also sitting directly under the speaker. Oysters were far and away the best I’ve had in the city.
Don’t know my waitress’s name but she could not have done a better job. Will definitely return next time I’m in town. no question
Food was amazing and service was good. It is a very small restaurant with little space between the tables. If you are looking to have a private conversation, this is not your place. The couple next to us jumped into our conversation (Not a bad thing) but a little weird. But the food was so good that we would definitely come back.
Had the DineLA 3-course lunch this week. Very tasty and fresh, especially the raw seafood platter. Smallish restaurant and popular at lunchtime - was a little noisy but we could hear each other just fine without resort to shouting. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and our server Natalie was outstanding! Would return again to try other menu items.
My family and I enjoyed a very lovely lunch at Fushing with Dynamite. We took advantage of Dine LA. The food was excellent and the seafood was very fresh. We brought are own bottle of champagne and the corkage fee was only $15. Definitely will be returning.
A seafood lover’s diner. Creative fresh delicious seafood dishes. Very small place, music was too loud probably to drown out closeness of table conversations or to make it a lively experience. Ordered SS Minnow (standard fresh raw platter) and Whole New Zealand Snapper(for two, actually for one:lol) dessert key lime pie. Need to go back to try Koshihikari Rice dish and Cioppino.
Had a wonderful anniversary dinner. Every dish was so delicious and looked like a work of art. The service was amazing, as our waiter was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Perhaps my fav part of the evening was the music they were playing. All in all I can’t wait to go back and try more of what they create!
Many trips here, because the raw bar is outstanding. The new octopus preparation is the best ever. However, for the first time at this restaurant I had something that I didn’t really love. We ordered the whole fried snapper, done Thai style. It was 50 bucks for two people. It just wasn’t good. It was overcooked which made the fish mushy as opposed to flaky. The braised vegetables were clunky and hard to combine with the broth and food the way it was served. A rare miss for such a good and consistent place.
Comically I had a very similar dish at the new Pappy’s in San Pedro. It was way better for less than half the price. Who’d a thunk? Also the wine list has gotten a little pricey with too many choices at the top end, not leaving enough reasonable options for variety.
