Fishing With Dynamite
Need to book at 11:45 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Unique small restaurant with partial beach view from some tables. Interesting menu, great service and nice ambiance. The food was good, but not spectacular. Clam chowder was tasty but not many clams. Hamachi was great. My guest was happy. Worth a visit.
The staff were absolutly friendly and caring. Never to find such a valueable place to enjoy seafoods other than FWD. Recommended for all occasions..except for large groups.
I have been coming here for the last 3 years and it is my absolute favorite restaurant! I love everything about it, food, drinks, staff and ambiance :) I take everyone here!!!
I’m always excited when I got to FWD because I know I’m going to have a great experience. They never disappoint...Rock Fish Ceviche is the best dish in the city...the rest of the menu does not have a bad dish... can’t wait to cone back...dinewithjb
Wonderful menu choices! We had the crab cake and the scallops. Service was attentive without being invasive. Small place... Reservations highly recommended.
Food was truly outstanding. Fresh fish and seafood in super delicious sauces. My sister's salad was also AMAZING! I love desserts and the key lime pie and pretzel bread pudding, simply awesome. We loved our server, too!
Bad quality of good. Raw seafood is tasteless. Some dish was sold out so we were given grilled baguette instead... weird
Such fantastic seafood and a great mix of traditional and innovative. The oysters were sweet and delicious, the rice dish was divine, so complex and a perfect way to end the meal. Would highly recommend.
I agree with the vast majority of reviews concerning the overall experience, but I have a concern. For a restaurant of it's renown, I was surprised when my girlfriend emerged from the bathroom describing how disgusting it was. The bathroom is used by both men and woman and this becomes problematic (because of the men). Without getting gross, my guess is that several male patrons had missed the toilet. I would like to hope that an employee would run a mop across the floor occasionally. Will I return, yes definitely.
They were out of something, so the experience was not as good. It is one of my favorite restaurants but when you run out of food it lessens the experience.
Service was excellent! We were celebrating our anniversary and they started us off with complimentary glasses of champagne right after we were seated. The food was excellent and our server offered great suggestions. We shared the SS Minnow seafood tower, a crab cake and the 2 specials of the night, all were delicious and just the right amount of food for us. We will not wait so long to return!
I have never been so disappointed on a restaurant. Much les given a bad review to one.
We booked a table for two for New Year’s eve.
The website had no information on them having a set menus of $95.00 for the evening. After having made the reservation, the restaurant called to let us know about the set menu and price of it. We agreed to it and where excited to try this restaurant. We live fish and seafood and heard good things about the restaurant.
The caller mentioned that that menus could be found in their social media site, but I +heck several times and it was never found on their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter accounts before or on December 31.
On the 31st during the day I received three different phone calls from the restaurant to remind me of the set menu. That fact, already made me think that their organization was not at its best.
When we arrived at the restaurant at 5:35 (our sitting was at 5:30) the restaurant was partially full, some people on tables others standing. It was very noisy and the music way too loud. At that point it did definitely felt very disorganized. Our table was not ready and there was another couple with a disturbed and unhappy looked also waiting for their table. In minutes, a couple of tables freed up and they where cleaned up and very simply set with no feeling at all of a New Years celebration. The decor of the restaurant was with blue, red, white and gold balloons that gave a feeling of a 4th of July celebration or a supper ball event.
The whole organization and set up of the restaurant felt as if having a New Year’s Eve celebration was an afterthought, rather than something well planed ahead of time
As our table was cleaned up and simply set with white napkins, forks and knife and a little simple candle, we sat down for an expensive simple and of not very good quality meal, priced at an steep $95.
Was such a disappointment that I’m not sure if I would ever be willing to go to the restaurateur again for another try.
Love this place and thought we would indulge for the New Year and have lunch.
Amazing, Amazing and Amazing
Delicious fixed menu and great service! Everyone was friendly.
It was a great dinner!
Friendly staffs are really nice to us, and meals are all fresh and excellent:)
I’d like to come this restaurant again some day.
Excellent seafood, lively atmosphere. Very small, so reservation probably a good idea.
Reservation was easy to book using OpenTable. Got a table immediately as soon as we walked in (within 20 minutes of the reservation time). They had seen my special request for a high chair and had it ready.
Server was extremely nice and helpful. Food was really delicious. Noise level is moderate but not overly loud.
All in all, a perfect experience. Would definitely consider coming back again.
Wonderful, intimate very delicious our waitress was wonderful
First time at the restaurant. Although we could only book counter seating on Open Table, they were able to accommodate us at a table. Staff was so friendly, we were welcomed by three different staff for being first-time visitors from Ventura. Food was delicious! Best clam chowder ever! And the Key Lime Pie, unbelievable! Would definitely come again.
Love evrything!! One of my faves
Love this place! Oysters, crab, drinks and chef surprises were all fantastic. Always looking forward to the next visit!
The food and service was exceptional. I'll be sure to return to try other menu items.
FWD never disappoints!!!!
My favorite restaurant. Always a fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend to anyone.
We love this place for a special date lunch or celebration! Always delicious and a special experience!
Small restaurant, a hidden gem for foodies. Every single dish carefully prepared,
Do not miss the Peruvian scallops.
Had a reservation for 9:30. Didn't get seated until nearly 10 due to a lack of tables. No one on the staff seemed to mind that. Dinner felt rushed as a result and the food was generally OK but certainly not worth the price. Overall a pretty disappointing experience.
Cocktails weren't bad though.
It’s like dining in a submarine.......cramped, sweaty and the sound of depth-charges.......actually it was a crying baby in a stroller that somehow fit into this tiny place ......but seriously this MB hole-in-the wall is the coolest joint in the Southbay for seafood lovers. Sat at the raw bar and watched the dudes shuck my Queen Mary Shellfish Tower with all the raw stuff (Kushi oysters are Numero Uni) plus a wide range of fantastic dipping sauces to go with. Also had the gem salad, steamed black clams and crab cake, all outstanding. Service is right there because of the close-quarters, there is someone as always right there. Background music and charming hostess were most delightful also after five Belvederes.....Can’t wait to go back!!
Everything was excellent. We had oysters on half shell, clam chowder and crab cakes as a split order. Hot food was hot, oysters chilled. Server friendly and attentive. Thank you.
The best hamachi in the world. All the food is awesome!
Amazing food as always and the service is friendly with a big smile
Opted for Old School / New School menu, as opposed to the Raw (and served on-ice) Menu. Not disappointed by any means ... food was excellent, both in taste and presentation -- Clam Chowdah, Crab Cake, Seared Scallops, fish and chips ... all shared. Service was terrific, as well -- cordial, attentive, but not rushed. FwD is tiny and popular, so it's a bit cramped and noisy ... but even as someone who prefers open and peaceful ... the "noise" is easily tolerable. Besides, having read about FwD (it was my first time there), and since becoming a fan of Chef David since he got "robbed" on Iron Chef Gauntlet, ambiance / décor / location was all secondary, I was there for the food. Fishing with Dynamite is dynamite! Pricey? Yeah, but it's Manhattan Beach, not unexpected. A $40 per person non-alcohol lunch -- hey, I had to go back to work -- isn't something I would do very often. But it's Christmas-time; it's a special occasion. I'll happily return for other special occasions.
Great food. Great people.
It was good
The fish and shellfish are fresher than a teenage quarterback at a junior league luncheon.
The food was amazing and service perfect. The seating is very close together - so between the other conversations and the loud music (we were seated under a speaker), it was a strain to have a conversation across the table without feeling like I needed to yell-
Otherwise a lovely meal and wine selection.
Maybe they could turn the music down when the place is full of lots of customers - no one was listening to the music , they were mostly just trying to be heard!!
Such a charming spot for dinner! Peruvian scallops were especially amazing
