We don't use the term "destination restaurant" lightly. But the seafood at Manhattan Beach's Fishing With Dynamite more than fits the bill.
We dine here often, always satisfied with the food. However, on this particular day the restaurant was overwhelmed with flies. This combined with a too warm restaurant (AC is sub-par) made for a less than appetizing meal experience. We took out of town guests here having raved about the food and wonderful beach location, unfortunately, the flies and the heat made for an uncomfortable experience.
We went to FWD for an anniversary lunch. The wait staff was super knowledgeable and friendly. She explained the menu and answered all our questions. I have a good allergy and she was very diligent in letting me know what would need to be modified on my food but also warned me about my partner’s food as well. Everything was amazon especially the Peruvian scallops. I wish we ordered more!
The octopus and hamachi were outstanding ~ a wonderful Chilean Sauvignon Blanc was perfect!
It's my first time eating here. Really wanted to have oysters. They had them but they were super small. I am a regular seafood eater. It's a shame what they charge for the oysters, still I am also aware of issues of oysters these days. After ordering the Queen Mary, my companion was still hungry. That being said, this is a place where you can easily spend $200-$300, because Queen Mary is already $85 on its own. I would say, some foods are good, but add wine and dessert, this is a tough place to go to on a regular basis. Parking is only street side and good luck finding meters. Place is small, hard to get in/out of tables. Otherwise, place is quaint, I do believe place is more pleasant when it's NOT busy. I was celebrating a birthday and was in a good mood. I ordered clam chowder soup, and it's was too creamy for my taste and not enough seafoods. (which is what I assume of clam chowders). I will say that everything here is freshly made. That being said, for a guilt free experience, I will come again for a special occasion.

This was our second time at this restaurant; the service and food were both outstanding. It's a seafood lover's paradise here. Both times we have come here it was to celebrate a special occasion and it does not disappoint. The only downside to this place is that the restaurant is very small and the noise level is very loud.
The food is terrific as is the service. The space is hip enough, but cramped and the day we ate there was very hot and uncomfortable. Would have rated it higher otherwise. Wine list is very interesting.
Best Seafood in the South Bay with exceptional service. Small but that's part of the charm.
Thank you for an exceptional dining experience last night. The food and service was over the top! Both the raw bar and cooked dishes were divine. The Peruvian Scallops and hamachi were amazing. The cooked halibut was exquisite. The clam chowder was the best I’ve ever had...We ended dinner with their key-lime pie. It was wonderful!

Tiny place, tight seating, loud, restricted to 1.5 hours per seating ( they let you know when leaving time is at check in) otherwise food is good, overpriced. Not somewhere I'm eager to return any time soon, even for good food.
Second time I’ve visited this establishment and while I totally enjoyed my initial visit, I’m afraid this one was a bust. A very small restaurant and one would expect the service to be more attentive. Food was very salty, from the fish and chips to the romanesco. The fish in the fish and chips was incredibly light but greasy; the hamachi was good but small amount of food. The soft shell crab was okay and the grilled street corn (3 pieces) messy and a bit spicy. All in all, not sure I’d return.
Showed up for reservation with my baby in her car seat. Staff there were friendly and accommodating. Food here is consistently good. Raw bar is our favorite along with the crab cake.
Fantastic as always. Love this place! Hamachi is delicious. Also love raw scallops and Oysters. Of course must end delicious meal with Key Lime pie.

Place is kind of small so rsvp is highly recommended. The food was fresh and tasty. DineLA menu was great for trying some of their dishes but highly recommend the seafood towers! Service is pretty spot on. It is a little tight inside the place and could get kind of loud.
We had to wait 20 minutes even though we had reservations, but it was worth the wait. Went for dineLa and enjoyed the food and music, very eclectic soundtrack. Should have just ordered the seafood for the main course.

My husband and I have recommended Fishing with Dynamite to all of our foodie friends. Delicious and fresh raw bar (oysters, shrimp, clams, etc.) and creative, scrumptious small plate seafood, fresh fruit and vegetable dishes in a very cozy, friendly, beachy, upscale, elegant atmosphere. Always fantastic service, seasonal dishes, healthy food, great hand-crafted cocktails, wine, champagne. Comfortable table and bar seating in an intimate and fun setting.
This is an amazing place. The only problem is I always have to go solo as the noise level is high. But way delicious.
The seafood is fantastic here. The cooks know how to prepare and serve fish like few other seafood restaurants.
Fishing With Dynamite is consistently my favorite restaurant in Manhattan Beach - the competition is fierce! I'm still dreaming of that soft-shell crab with the magic slaw!
Cool Beachy Vibe, feels like somewhere to meet friends to enjoy the day but the space is too tight to really let your hair down. Better for small parties. Server was friendly and knowledgeable and made great suggestions. The seafood was fresh and good and we were very happy with our meal. I want to go back to check out the rest of the menu.
The cuisine at Fishing with Dynamite was excellent--unique and artistically prepared. The service was also great, with wait service attentive, knowledgeable and helpful. But the ambiance was ruined by the loud music blasting throughout, which left us nearly screaming at one another, stressed and annoyed and wishing to leave as soon as possible. Please try to change the atmosphere in this fine eatery so it's a more pleasant dining experience!
I took my parents here while they were visiting from out-of-state. The restaurant itself is tiny, but the food was amazing. The scallop was the best! I definitely recommend getting more than one order of the crab cakes.
Amazing use of flavours ! Every dish was outstanding! Will be back soon .

It was my first time dining here, and has been on my to-do list for some time. I was not disappointed, the hosts accommodated me on my post pone reservation and kept me updated on the status of my table. Once, seated it took a while for drinks, my only knock on this place. The food was good and the stand out entree was by far the Hamachi! I definitely will be back!
Delicious, fresh seafood with beautiful presentation! First time here for the DineLA lunch. We made 10:30am reservations. Our superb server Jason suggested ordering each dish and sharing which we did. Enough for us to share and want to come back! Parking is only available in metered parking on the street or the lot behind the restaurant. I was lucky to find street parking with no meter a block away. After a leisurely lunch, we took a short walk down to the pier on a beautiful, sunny, warm day. Make early reservations!

Another fantastic dinner. The Hamachi was memorable, salmon perfect, grilled octopus cooked just right. Make sure you have pretzel bread pudding with caramel and marscapone ice cream for dessert. Wine list could be better... Cocktails were excellent.Hadvthe Ghost of somebody.... yummm
It was not air conditioned and it was extremely hot. No window or fans either. It made the lunch very uncomfortable.

Great overall but we were there on a hot day and I was sweating the entire time. Surprised the windows didn’t open because there was a decent breeze when we left. Not the best impression for client lunch since I was drenched in sweat but the food and service was excellent.
Good as usual. Nice cozy place. AC could be turned up a bit higher. It got hot in LA.
They did not have the AC on which was a problem as it was hot and the air was still. I really don’t understand why that would be with a heat wave going on in LA. It ruined our experience
We changed the head count shortly before our reservation time, the waitress was very accommodating she did her best to make a table for us. She also had an appetizer sent to our table. My only complaint with the restaurant has to do with the broken air conditioning.
We went there for my BD. The food was great as usual. A little bit disappointed with roasted Dover fish. It was quite bland and not worth $60! The service was great. We had a great time.
Overall, this was a good meal. Fish was fresh and a nice setting. My only complaint was that it was a holiday and not until I ordered my selections, was I informed that they were out of Fish for Fish & Chips. Now I know some would say, that means the fish is fresh. But since I planned my selections 2 days in advance (being a foodie, I always do this) this was a major disappointment. Fish & Chips at a seafood restaurant is a must try. So the staff should have planned accordingly. I am from the East Coast, so the bar is high especially when spending money on a West Coast seafood restaurant. Now I have to go back to at least try them. I'll sit at the bar and fill my face. Love good food... D E L I S H!
The waitress was a little pushy with the up-sales on drinks and appetizers. She also reached over and between us a few times to set down food and glasses. The service was mediocre, as you would hope to have a more refined experience at an expensive restaurant. I might as well have been at Chili’s!
