Fishhook - Mermaid Wharf
It’s fishhook alright! It’s FH with a waterfront patio, char-grill, ‘thalis’ or share platters, cocktails, BC wines and Ten local taps — not to mention the ability to take reservations (excluding patio) — even for large parties!
We’re open for lunch and dinner. 7 days a week 11am-9pm.
The staff was great. Efficient and friendly. The meals I saw going to other tables looked tasty and good sized. I tried the tuna tataki. The tuna was plentiful but not overly tasty and it was served on lettuce but nothing else so it made for a rather boring selection not worth the price paid in my opinion. I did jazz up my meal by ordering the masala fries which were very tasty and a huge portion for a small price. I ended up eating most of the fries but only ate half the tuna.
Mandolin was lovely. The food was delicious. Week night was quiet and yet, the food was still very good.
I have recommended before and would again. Thanks Fishhook!
I had the Biryani, it was excellent. Pleasantly spicy with lots of fish mixed in. My wife had the halibut which she really enjoyed. The coating was super crispy without being really thick and doughy and the indian spice was a nice change from the ususal.
Fishhook is unique in quite a few ways: The communication with clients is outstanding, from the online booking where, when we reserved our table we were congratulated on finding an open table. Follow up emails maintained the contact with reminders of the date and hour of our reservation. Service was excellent and efficient. Wait was minimal and the food was hot. All at our table commented on the quality and the variety of the menu. One suggestion for the menu would be to have smaller portions for the elderly. All the items that we ordered from the menu were outstanding but the quantity of each of the items was more than manageable for the 4 elders at our table.
Fish hook has been providing great foods all the time. Mermaid Wharf is their second store. Everything is good as usual. This location has great view and close to water, the space is big then Ford street location. You would like this one especially you bring your friends from outside of Victoria.
We were surprised by how good the food was. Wonderful mussels and superior halibut cheeks. We have already recommended this place to friends and will go again.
We had dinner on a quiet Wednesday night in October. I had not been to the restaurant before and was pleasantly surprised. I had the share dish of Tuna as my main course (along with a Caesar salad) and it was very good and more than enough for a main course. My daughter had the daily special of halibut cheeks which she said was fine but could have been a bit spicier. My husband had the salmon fish & chips which he enjoyed. My daughter and I shared the sticky toffee cake for dessert, which was good but not the best I have ever eaten - I prefer my sticky toffee cake to be stickier and gooier. Our cocktails were very good.
I look forward to coming back in the summer and sitting on the gorgeous deck overlooking the water.
Fishhook - Mermaid Wharf serves delightfully delicious drinks (raspberry basil smash!) as well as food with Indian herb and spice combinations I loved but would never have thought of using with seafood, and French-inspired flair and presentation. The chowder, with thyme-roasted potatoes, coconut milk & smoked fish broth, and smoked salmon was sublime. I chose the Biryani entree, a mushroom coconut curry pan-fried with rice and seared squid, and topped with char-grilled tandoori rockfish. The food, service, and ambience were impeccable. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Victoria.
We went to Fishhook, Mermaid Wharf, on Friday, October 25th for my birthday dinner. We have never been there and were very happy we picked this restaurant. It was quiet when we came in and we were seated right away. The food arrived quickly and it was delicious. We started with the chowder and it was amazing. We both enjoyed our fish and chips as well. I didn't get our server's name but it was a young man who seemed genuinely interested in our experience. It was such a nice change from our usual places who seemed almost uninterested in our comments when they ask how our food is. This server seemed like he had a vested interest in the restaurant. We left knowing that we will be back with friends. Thank you again for the lovely evening.
Indian inspired flavors combined with really fresh seafood. Very generous portions
The food was fantastic. I have a gluten allergy and the staff were very knowledgeable about it. Lots of good options for Celiacs. I had GF bread with the mussels as an appetizer and then fish & chips (separate fryer) for dinner. Great staff and really nice place right on the water. Definitely recommend and I will go again!
The experience was very enjoyable but the service by Nicole was outstanding.
Fishhook offers some great takes on amazingly fresh sea food - it's all good - I hope to eat my way through the entire menu. Plus, leftover halibut & Humboldt squid made an amazing addition to the next morning omelette!
Amazing food and perfect service. No problem with our dietary restrictions either. Will definitely come back! Next time during the daytime so we can sit on the patio in front of the water.
Loved pretty much everything about the place. The food was absolutely fabulous, the drinks were great and the server, Aurelie, was just superb. We were there for our anniversary dinner and just loved it all. Would go there again!
Wonderful evening. I love this place. Good food good service. See you again.
Great restaurant with amazing food don’t go to Victoria without visiting!
Fabulous food (we had a special - halibut cheeks in a miso marinade (so good!) - and the biryani; also a 'pekora' appetizer, with halibut). Attentive service, too. Unreservedly recommended! If you are concerned about Indian-style spicing overpowering your seafood, don't worry: be happy and dine here! Your meal will be different than the ordinary - in the best ways possible.
The curry salt spring island mussels were insane - so good . Staff was friendly and knowledgeable my wife’s entree was excellent as well and the veggie pakora was a nice way to start the evening. What more do you need to know it s a great place to eat if your not shy to test your palate with a burst of flavour.
Great service, excellent food and good wine list.
A very interesting menu selection, with notable Indo-French influences. In particular, the poutine was a delightful culinary combo! Also, we were lucky to have had halibut as the catch-of-the-day! Both yummy and delicious!
Terrific staff, lovely table where we could see straight out to the water and delicious food . Made it a great evening.
Friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. Generous amount of seafood and excellent flavours. Definitely would recommend.
Food was good although too much heat to the mussels, which I love. Someone must have overdosed on the sirachi in our 2 dishes of mussels (and I had asked the server if there was much spice. Music was way too loud at the back wall, could hardly hear each other. That might prevent me from returning there. Halibut was very good according to guest.
We had a great night on the patio at Fishhook. It all started with a nice table with a view of the Johnson Street bridge which started opening up within minutes of our arrival. It is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a queue for $3 off beergaritas!
They were fantastic as was our service and the entire meal for ages 6-50 something.
Food was the key element. Even though not very busy, the place needed to be cleaned up due to items still on table and some trash on the floor. Could have been more neat, but the food and service were both very good. Recommended for the food!
Love Indian food & love seafood! The infusion was a unique experience in wonderful flavors.
One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Had a reservation and were seated as soon as we walked in. Appreciate that they asked if the table they planned to sit us at worked for us before seating us. The menu looked so good we had a hard time deciding what to order. Started with their drink of the day, yum! The food was very fresh and the flavors amazing. Our two kids (12 &8) could not get enough of the prawns and mussels, so good. The biryani was cooked to perfection and had a nice kick. Only wish we lived in Victoria so we could visit frequently to try every dish. Great attentive and warm service!
Everything was over priced and over salted. Tuna was terrible. Patio was closed even though it was nice out. Sooo hot inside. Not worth the money at all.
We had a fantastic meal at Fishhook. The seafood was high quality and very fresh. The service was friendly and highly accommodating. The location is great and the space is very comfortable. The mussels Vindaloo was one of the overall best executed dishes I have ever had. I appreciate the attention to quality and detail. I highly recommend Fishhook.
This restaurant is a gem on Mermaid Wharf. It offers a water view. We enjoyed outdoor dining for lunch. My husband had grilled halibut and I had the fish tacos. The Indo-French cuisine was so fresh and tasty. If you are looking for something different this restaurant is for you.
I had the Prawn dish for lunch, everything was very good and well prepared, but it wasn't anything I could not have cooked myself. I was expecting a bit more of a mouth explosion. But then - I am very spoiled. Ambience was great, nice and quiet right by the waterfront.
Absolutely fantastic! We had the Vindaloo Seafood Pot and cocktails. We have now added that to our “must go tos” when we are visiting Victoria. A+++!
The portions are far too generous- almost impossible to eat. I felt badly wasting so much food but we could not use leftovers in a hotel.
We were neglected by staff, had to ask to track down staff to ask to pay half an hour after receiving our bill. Was never given the leftovers I had packed up to take home.
Fishhook - Mermaid Wharf is located right on the water just steps from the "Blue Bridge." It's got a nice casual vibe. Food is great. I had the squid steak tandoori and my wife had the halibut tandoori. Both excellent. We will be back to try out some of the other items on the menu! Good value too.
Briyani wasa miss. Halibut special was good. Briyani was a mixup of overspiced glommy rice and fish ,lacked layiring and definition, poor presentation. No distictive flavour ,seemed like everything was added and then churned up.
The thali was fantastic as was the red shred. Everyone's main course was excellent but mine. My tuna Pataki was over cooked. The server offered to replace it.
This place is a must try for anyone who loves seafood. Highly recommend!
In a word , - - - Awesome !
The Asian / Indian fusion was delicious. The serving size most generous. No empty plate space here . The server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The gratuity left was larger than usual in recognition of the teamwork and service from kitchen to table.
Highly recommended and will be returning to introduce friends to this place.
