Fishhook - Mermaid Wharf
It’s fishhook alright! It’s FH with a waterfront patio, char-grill, ‘thalis’ or share platters, cocktails, BC wines and Ten local taps — not to mention the ability to take reservations (excluding patio) — even for large parties!
We’re open for lunch and dinner. 7 days a week 11am-9pm.

Nice restaurant, good for a romantic dinner. I apreciate halibut burger and my wife like her salmon much.
Really enjoyed Fishhook. Seafood was super tasty, little spicy and lots of it. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Victoria. Great experience.
We researched this restaurant through trip advisor and booked on line which was easy.
The food was excellent and the service very good. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and the different ingredients in the dishes. The food was very tasty and plentiful. It was quiet the night we visited and also a bit chilly towards the end of the evening but we would definitely go back again.
We’d recommend this restaurant to any and all. The halibut cheeks with gnocchi is very good!
The food was delicious. The service attentive, informative and casually appropriate. There was a very large party in the restaurant so there was some disruption from the noise but it was handleable. We had a great time.
We had mussels and ordered another batch because they were so good! Loved their Caesars too. Looking forward to trying more of their menu but it will be hard not to have those mussels!!
It was a good meal. It was the servers attitude that was a bit off putting. She seemed frustrated by us for staying and chatting instead of paying the bill and leaving right away. as well as when I asked her about specific items on the menu she was not able to provide information, and admitted that she hadn't tried those items. As well, I made our tables reservation a week in advance, and the table the gave us was right next to the door, so the cold breeze hit us all night, a little disappointing to make a reservation well in advance and be given the worst table in the restaurant.
The halibut was delicious though. :)
This was our last stop on a weekend trip to Victoria, up from Washington State, and I'm glad we fit it in to the itinerary. The food was fresh and delicious. They have a lot of fun speciality drinks but of course will make any traditional drink as well. Our servers were all super friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back if I ever make it way back to Victoria!
Excellent food. Excellent service.
Cuisine is innovative and venue is intimate. A perennial favourite when we visit Victoria.
Really fantastic restaurant. Food was fresh and delicious. Service was amazing.
Valentine dinner with my wife. The music?? was distorted and noisy to the point of being uncomfortable. Everything else was good. Waiter and service superb
Great for gluten free/those with Celiac Disease. Dedicated gluten free fryer - you can have fish and chips!
An annual repeat visit. Always unusual and well prepared. Gracious service while busy for valentines.
Was a great atmosphere in a great location. The service was good and prompt. The food was also good.
Great restaurant, sea food and wine menu certainly above average, certainly would recommend to my friends
The staff were very welcoming and warm as was the space. The food was top notch and the entire family loved the poutine. We were surprised at how large the portions were and were thrilled to take our leftovers back to the place we were staying. Highly recommend and will be back when we visit Victoria!
Trimmer menu, with fresh sheet extras. Same excellent quality, innovative treatments of fish and seafood. BC ingredients and wine all the way. Reliable from start to finish.
Dinner was delicious and the room very nice and service and value good. The room did not have many diners since it was a Wed in January, so was quiet. I suspect if it was full it would be louder due to the lack of carpet or sound absorbing items.
Very good for gluten free (celiac safe) Dedicated deep fat fryer so fish and chips are safe! Fish is battered with chick pea flour which is a bit heavy but flavour is good.
Large patio would be great in summer.
Great!!! Loved the food, my son said he had the best fish ever.
We shared the hot pot. $36.00 large enough for two. So delicious I would return. Low key atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
Super meal, as usual. Had the tikka tuna tataki. So very great.
The food was great - the service was not. Most of the servers stood around chatting with each other by the bar for most of our stay. Consequently, our server forgot our appetizer and didn’t check in to refresh our drinks our ask how our meal was.
Fish overcooked, service sporadic. I ordered halibut and frites, enough fries for all five of us. Sadly fish was way overcooked. My friend said her masala overpowered halibut, which is a delicate fish. Maybe use cod or snapper or a firm white fish. Halibut wasted on this recipe.
Wonderful experience. We communicated honestly about a particular dish and they took it seriously and didn't charge us. We will return again...and again
Vindaloo mussels amazing. Great caesar. Music was too loud but server immediately turned it down upon request.
Good food and service. Good ambience. We went on a Monday night with two young kids. Servers were helpful.
Fantastic food, cosy and comfortable room, friendly staff.
Consistently good time. Welcoming, fantastic food and lovely setting.
The staff was great. Efficient and friendly. The meals I saw going to other tables looked tasty and good sized. I tried the tuna tataki. The tuna was plentiful but not overly tasty and it was served on lettuce but nothing else so it made for a rather boring selection not worth the price paid in my opinion. I did jazz up my meal by ordering the masala fries which were very tasty and a huge portion for a small price. I ended up eating most of the fries but only ate half the tuna.
Mandolin was lovely. The food was delicious. Week night was quiet and yet, the food was still very good.
I have recommended before and would again. Thanks Fishhook!
I had the Biryani, it was excellent. Pleasantly spicy with lots of fish mixed in. My wife had the halibut which she really enjoyed. The coating was super crispy without being really thick and doughy and the indian spice was a nice change from the ususal.
Fishhook is unique in quite a few ways: The communication with clients is outstanding, from the online booking where, when we reserved our table we were congratulated on finding an open table. Follow up emails maintained the contact with reminders of the date and hour of our reservation. Service was excellent and efficient. Wait was minimal and the food was hot. All at our table commented on the quality and the variety of the menu. One suggestion for the menu would be to have smaller portions for the elderly. All the items that we ordered from the menu were outstanding but the quantity of each of the items was more than manageable for the 4 elders at our table.
Fish hook has been providing great foods all the time. Mermaid Wharf is their second store. Everything is good as usual. This location has great view and close to water, the space is big then Ford street location. You would like this one especially you bring your friends from outside of Victoria.
We were surprised by how good the food was. Wonderful mussels and superior halibut cheeks. We have already recommended this place to friends and will go again.
We had dinner on a quiet Wednesday night in October. I had not been to the restaurant before and was pleasantly surprised. I had the share dish of Tuna as my main course (along with a Caesar salad) and it was very good and more than enough for a main course. My daughter had the daily special of halibut cheeks which she said was fine but could have been a bit spicier. My husband had the salmon fish & chips which he enjoyed. My daughter and I shared the sticky toffee cake for dessert, which was good but not the best I have ever eaten - I prefer my sticky toffee cake to be stickier and gooier. Our cocktails were very good.
I look forward to coming back in the summer and sitting on the gorgeous deck overlooking the water.
Fishhook - Mermaid Wharf serves delightfully delicious drinks (raspberry basil smash!) as well as food with Indian herb and spice combinations I loved but would never have thought of using with seafood, and French-inspired flair and presentation. The chowder, with thyme-roasted potatoes, coconut milk & smoked fish broth, and smoked salmon was sublime. I chose the Biryani entree, a mushroom coconut curry pan-fried with rice and seared squid, and topped with char-grilled tandoori rockfish. The food, service, and ambience were impeccable. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Victoria.
We went to Fishhook, Mermaid Wharf, on Friday, October 25th for my birthday dinner. We have never been there and were very happy we picked this restaurant. It was quiet when we came in and we were seated right away. The food arrived quickly and it was delicious. We started with the chowder and it was amazing. We both enjoyed our fish and chips as well. I didn't get our server's name but it was a young man who seemed genuinely interested in our experience. It was such a nice change from our usual places who seemed almost uninterested in our comments when they ask how our food is. This server seemed like he had a vested interest in the restaurant. We left knowing that we will be back with friends. Thank you again for the lovely evening.
Indian inspired flavors combined with really fresh seafood. Very generous portions
