Perfect cook on steaks, good Demi glace, seasoning leaned more toward salty side, whipped potatoes awesome, bummed there was no bread and butter service. Service excellent!
Found this place on a business trip. Brought my wife for our Anniversary. Loved it. Food is fantastic. Beautiful place.
Firefly never fails to impress. The onion soup which is always excellent actually managed to exceed expectations. It was so good that my son ordered a second bowl for dessert. As we were there for lunch we enjoyed the ribeye sandwich with an excellent horseradish sauce. The server was attentive. The ambiance was both stylish and inviting. Make sure you visit while the onion soup is still on the menu. It is a lunch special on Tuesdays.
My husband and I took his parents to dinner. Mom had the scallop risotto, Dad had the filet wrapped in a pastry puff, my husband had the filet and I had the veggie pizza. Everyone was very happy with their food! The mashed potatoes were different than usual, translucent, a bit gummy. Still good, but not as good as usual. Firefly is our favorite restaurant!
I have been wanting to try this well reputedfarm and table restaurant for some time and had opportunity when travelling back from short vacation south. Service was exceptional - attentive , friendly and knowledgeable - food was delicious and nicely presented. Wine selection ok but overpriced for brands. Overall pricing and quality comparable to one star Michelin in Chicago - somewhat overpriced - BUT- a lovely meal and experience.
I had possibly the best rib eye steak that I have ever had! I am from NYC area and that steak beats anything I have had there. I travel across country every year and I make it a point to stop at the Firefly Grill in Effingham each time. Everything about this restaurant makes it a must stop.
Great atmosphere, friendly service and delicious food
We found Firefly Grille last year on our way home from Florida to Wisconsin. We did not hesitate to stop again. We loved the atmosphere, wait staff, food, etc. This year we sat next to a very nice, interesting gentleman who was just passing through as well. Had an after dinner drink with him at the bar with the very nice, fun bar staff. We will be back next year, if not sooner!
The entrees were very disappointing for Easter Brunch. The Salmon dinner was 95% salad 5% salmon. The eggs benedict offered the tiniest sliver of meat, the tomato was thicker than whatever pork was included. The ‘mimosa’ tasted like club soda and orange juice...MAYBE a splash of champagne. For $31.95 each, it was EXTREMELY disappointing. The server was pleasant and attentive.
Firefly Grill is a wonderful destination after long hours on the road. The food is such that it could hold its own in any major metropolitan area. Whenever we are driving from Chicago to and from Tennessee or Georgia, Firefly Grill is a must dine.
We reroute in order to eat at this place. Normally we are there for lunch in our travel between Chicago and St Louis. This time we arrived after lunch time serving and were surprised at the dinner menu prices. The food was good as usual but the prices are WOW high. Love the little shooter desserts.
This is perhaps the most delightful restaurant stop along any interstate highway in the US. The quality of good, service and menu choices is outstanding. This is one of our go to places during our semi annual road trips to our winter place in Phoenix. A real gem not to be missed.
Very cool place to get together for a drink or a nice romantic meal by the water
This was an absolute treat to find on my trip from Colorado to Pennsylvania. Being a bit of a foodie I can only give top recommendations food presentation tremendous service if you have a chance 2 eat care I would highly highly recommended wish I lived closer to attend more often
We had a great time celebrating my fathers 76th birthday.
The service and food was excellent. We had such a good time and I cannot say enough about this place!
Top notch service and food! Amazing quality!! Worth every penny!
AMONG OUR TOP 10 FAVORITE RESTAURANTS GOOD FOR ALL OCCASIONS. SPECIAL TASTING EVENTS ARE OUTSTANDING.. WINE LIST COULD GO UP A NOTCH. CALIBER OF LIST DOESN'T MATCH FOOD PRICING.
Celebrated an 82nd birthday here. The Birthday Girl declared the filet and martini the best of her life. And, as she shared with the waiter (Hayden, you rocked!), she’s had A LOT of filets and martinis to compare! I believe she would have been offered a special dessert, but we had plans following dinner. We drove 1.25 hrs., but it was soooooo worth it! We will be back, and will reserve a porch seating. The view was lovely.
This would be a "must stop and eat" no matter where it is.
My husband & I have been here several times. Always excellent food & service. A must-go for special occasions. The garlic rolls are to-die-for! The owner/chef comes up with yummy ideas for seasonal dishes. They grow much of their own herbs & produce & buy from local farmers. The restaurant is built from old barn materials that they have salvaged & is really one of a kind. The website is very nice. Check it out! You will be glad you did! Bobbie R, St Elmo, IL
Awesome food and service! Love this place!! Would recommend for any occasion!!
We went at dinner time, so this might not apply to lunch or earlier. The dinner menu is not what it once was, and items on the other menus are not available. Best, in my opinion, not to hand someone a list of items she can't order.
The food was good, but not to the point to justify the expense. Appetizers should come before the main course-- if the main course arrives first, the patron should be asked whether the appetizer is still needed. Presentation was bland. As were sauces. The table next to ours sent food back.
Tables are really packed in-- I don't see how a someone with a walker or a wheelchair could navigate. And the noise makes it impossible to hear your waiter even if he is right next to you. You'll eat in silence or shout the whole meal, as will the fifteen people within 6 feet of you.
This place used to be great, but apparently the owners couldn't make a profit on great, so now it's, well, maybe a really good Outback Steakhouse but at 2-3 times the price.
I had read about Fire Fly several years ago in the Illinois magazine and thought if passing through Effingham in the future that I would love to have dinner there. Well, my husband and I were on the last leg of a 20 day road & cruise trip with friends. We all agreed that we wanted our last dinner to be special, and it was. FireFly did not disappoint! Our server,Josh, was excellent. Attentive but not intrusive and knowledgeable about the menu.
Would definitely return and recommend if in the area.
Great place with wonderful food. You won’t be disappointed!
We love the special Valentine menu. Fabulous food and spectacular service.
Fantastic experience on Valentine’s Day. The dining and wine selections at Firefly never disappoint. Service was a bit slow, but they were packed. Overall a great experience.
Fantastic meal and fantastic service. I’d go everyday if I could afford it.
The pre-fix menu for Valentine’s dinner was outstanding for 7 of the 8 courses. Though the presentation of the lobster tail was exquisite, the texture was not outstanding though it tasted ok. Service was outstanding once we settled in. At the beginning of the meal there were several miscues in short order, but the everything settled in it and it was a truly memorable evening.
Took my wife there on Valentines day. We were both really impressed with the food and service.
Sunday brunch at firefly is always amazing! The weather kept people home so the restaurant was quite, which we appreciate. We had a great meal and took a pizza to go for dinner!
Wow! I didn't expect much for a restaurant in the middle of nowhere. I was wrong! Food and service was fantastic. Probably the best Crab cakes we have ever had and we lived on the East Coast for several years. You are killin' it! Thanks.
The atmosphere was amazing....the entire staff was top-notch and the food off the charts. An overall excellent experience.
First visit on a busy Saturday night. People were waiting but we had a 6:00 reservation and were promptly seated.
Service and ambiance were poor. The tables were very close together and our table seemed to be along a turnpike (if only I could have charged a toll!) used by all the wait-staff. My chair was bumped repeatedly by the careless among them. Our server seemed extremely determined to get us out of there as quickly as possible. We were in no hurry but she sure was. We exhibited no desire to order and just wanted to enjoy our cocktails in peace, but after the fourth visit to take our order we capitulated. I also later learned by eavesdropping at a nearby table, served by a different server, that there were off-menu specials that our server failed to mention. I guess that might have taken too long. The tables do not include a table cloth and the napkins are paper. If you spend $46 for a steak I think linen should be included. The kitchen is in full view of the dining area and since we were very close to the kitchen we could see and hear all the banter between the cooks and staff. Some may like this, I do not.
Drinks: My wife ordered the apple-cinnamon martini concoction and she liked it enough to order two of them. I had the Manhattan. It was a very good Manhattan. However, it came with one of those giant ice cubes. I removed the ice cube and observed a very tiny amount of actual Manhattan. Imagine a thimble-full of bourbon, that's what you get for $10.50. I despise the giant ice cube. I had a glass of the Chianti and it was quite fine.
Food: My wife ordered the pork shank w/Brussels sprouts . The Montana filet includes a tiny filet, as advertised. But the bacon cheese mixture was also tiny making a very tiny entree. We both agreed the whipped potatoes were blah. The apple crisp we had for dessert was excellent.
Evening started well, ended well, not so good in-between.
We ate here before a show at the Effingham Performance Center. The food and drinks were outstanding and the service was great too. I had the salmon, my SO had one of the steaks. I highly recommend Firefly Grill. Make a reservation--it definitely fills up on show nights, and we were very glad we booked ahead of time.
Had a wonderful meal ans for a
Very special occasion ... we got engaged !!
Great atmosphere and great food! The service was wonderful too!
I made reservations for me and my sister to have a "girls" night out. We had such a great time. The service is always excellent and the food was amazing. The dessert and drinks were out of this world. Can't wait to go back on Valentine's Day.
We love Firefly! Brittany was our server tonight; she is our favorite! She is a natural communicator and always makes you feel like a friend. She remembers our preferences and calls us by name. And then there’s the food...which was amazing as always. Currently, they are preparing the salmon over spaghetti squash in a butternut squash purée. It essentially tasted like their butternut squash soup, which is amazing! My husband had the fried chicken, which is always very good. We always get a cappuccino, which they do a nice job with, and we got the white chocolate bread putting. I loved it, my husband not care for it, because it didn’t have chocolate.
We ate here because it was close to the Effingham Performance Center. It was an excellent choice. The menu was unique and the food was delicious. I would definitely return.
