Firefly Grill Ratings and Reviews
Salad was full of water. Steaks were just ok, not worth $32 each. Wine was overpriced. Only thing we really enjoyed were squash blossoms. We have eaten there many times and always enjoyed but this visit was very disappointing for our anniversary. We hadn't been in a while and may not be inclined to return. A lot of money for a fair meal
The covered patio was a little cold with the fans going and the AC cranking. Good food but a little pricey we thought. 12 for peach cobbler with some kind of bourbon ice cream not worth it and the ice cream was terrible with the bourbon in it ask them if they can serve it with vanilla ice cream and cut the price in half🤔😊 we would definitely go again though as overall it was a very enjoyable experience.
I made my reservation online and didn't realize I could specify where I wanted to be seated. I had hoped for something on the porch by the pond but when we arrived we were placed in a small spot inside right next to a wall. Not ideal at all, especially with how slow it was when we went, for brunch. After talking with the hostess she moved us to a spot on the porch and it was awesome!
Everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. My girlfriend and I traveled here for our 3 year anniversary and it was worth it! The food was absolutely amazing and I loved how all the ingredients were a stone throw away!
We will definitely be traveling back!
We met here for lunch with some of our out of town relatives who we had not seen for several years. We rented the wine room and it was perfect for our group since we had a lot of catching up to do and wanted some privacy. The wine room is always good when you want to have any type of meeting--business or pleasure. There is a charge for using it but it is worth every penny.
As usual the service was over the top!! This time of year is a great time to visit the firefly because all of the vegetables come from their farm or other locals. I had the fish tacos and they were very tasty. They come with firefly fries which are always good but sometimes I substitute with one of their vegies. I especially like their green beans. We also had the fried green tomatoes and as if they aren't good enough on their own, they top them with Schottmans sweet corn. And for dessert we had their famous shooters. My favorite is the key lime but I haven't tried one yet that isn't delicious!! I haven't been to the Sunday brunch for a while but I hear that it a must try. I looked at some of the dishes on facebook and the firefly website and I already want to try a lot of the dishes. I hear you need to make reservations for the brunch because it is packed every week. Actually I would recommend a reservation about anytime of the day because this is a popular busy place.
Also a great venue for large groups such as bachelorette parties, showers, business meetings, small weddings, etc.
Overall I would call the experience middle of the road. We had a few very good dishes (corn chowder) and some not so good. My wife's scallops were inconsistently cleaned and the rice in her risotto underdone. My steak was more rare than medium rare and the carrots inconsistent in doneness. I've also never encountered a bar that stocks Sazerac Rye, yet doesn't have the components to make an actual Sazerac. The desserts were overly complex for simple dishes (candies and streusel on a peach cobbler?).
We have been to Firefly in the past and was looking forward to our meal. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes. We both ordered the fried chicken dish. It was over priced and literally had a chicken tender in a bowl of cream soup. It was not what we had envisioned for a main entree. I was still hungry after spending over 100.00 for two people. I am not a big eater but I was not fully satisfied with my meal. We will not be returning.
We dined with our close friends. As always the food is amazing and unique. We did have some issues with getting drinks refilled. Other then that, everything was spot on. The salmon dish was amazing, and the fried tomatoes to die for! I felt like my halibut dish wasn't quite as good as my pervious visit but still worth the drive.
We wanted somewhere different to eat for our anniversary. I had heard of this place, so we wanted it try it. We were not disappointed. My husband said the filet he had was one of the best steaks he had ever eaten. I enjoyed the fried chicken. The cracker jack sundae was delicious. We talked about asking some friends to come along the next time we have something to celebrate.
Saw this in St. Louis Magazine. It was worth the two-hour drive from STL! The setting on a small lake is spectacular. Lots of table options from inside, the bar, outside, but covered and air conditioned and a small outside, fresh air deck. The staff was great. The food was amazing. Crispy Squash Blossoms were a great starter. Savory fried chicken (not your typical) atop sweet corn sauce sauce with fresh mozzarella and local tomatoes was superb. Pan seared scallops (some of the best I've had) sat atop English pea and mushroom risotto with a succulent, delicate carrot butter. All around a great night!
Firefly Grill in Effingham was AMAZING! My husband got a ribeye that he didn't even need to use a knife to cut it with---said it was the best steak he's had in a long, long time. And I had "Montana Mignon" it was a filet with a savory sauce inside of a puff pastry! Reallllly yummy. Also, they served probably the best Caesar salad that I've ever had. We will most definitely be going back soon. The prices were a little higher, but worth it.
As always when traveling up or down I-57 to and from Chicago, we were thrilled to stop at Firefly Grill! It was great to see license plates from many states in the parking lot - clearly, other travelers have discovered this treasure tucked among the many chain restaurants on this busy highway exit (Effingham). We ordered everything from the right-hand side of the menu - the seasonal specials - so lots of regional produce. Fried green tomatoes with a delicious, slightly spicy corn salsa were fantastic. The fried chicken special was amazing, too. Fast, friendly service (thanks, Sarah - you were great!), and fresh, seasonal food. We were in and out and back on the road in an hour. What a pleasant stop and wonderful "on the road" meal!
Firefly Grill is a unique dining experience. The setting, the food, and the service make this our go-to restaurant whenever we pass through Effingham. The pizzas are very good and can easily be shared by two people. I have tried several of the salad choices and have never been disappointed. The Caesar salad and the beet salad are favorites.
The bangers and mash was excellent. I cannot say that about the short ribs stroganoff. It lacked flavor and meat. There was no real rich stoganoff sauce to be found, just noodles and short ribs. There was also very little meat on a huge bone in the stroganoff. I would not recommend it, but I would the bangers and mash.
It's an hour and a half drive but well worth it. I have never been disappointed . Love the food and the ambience. I've been here with friends, family, business and for my anniversary. Each time has been wonderful and I love watching the koi. Just can't say enough good about the place.... Definitely my favorite dining!!!!
Normally an outstanding dining experience. Something was off today. Bread was overcooked and I tried the squash blossoms... Mistake. Just a fried ball of green goop.
Made up for it with the excellent Thai pizza, the beautiful outdoor seating, and great service.
I had been to Firefly Grill once before, while traveling. My wife and I needed to travel from St Louis to Indianapolis, and we made time to stop there recently... tired of 'fast food'. We had a terrific experience there (4:45-5:40 PM), and the food was excellent. All of their menu items are special and delicious; most are very out-of-the-ordinary. If this restaurant was in St Louis (or Indy), we would certainly go there more often! Our only complaint was that the 'Sunroom' dining area was too cool & drafty. (It was a beautiful day in the 70's, and didn't need to be so cold.) Other than that minor item, it was fabulous. We will certainly go back there again!
Food just ok. Hadn't been in a number of years. Went back as someone had given us a gift card. Too much breading on the morels. Great clam chowder. Ok scallops with risotto and pork shank. 6/10. Good wine list but too expensive for Chicago so over the top and out of range for Effingham. Only 2 tables wee still seated but finishing by 9pm on a Friday night when we left.
On balance, we enjoyed our dinner and wil return. Our server Adam was personable and attentive. The flash fried morsels were disappointingly indistinguishable from the kind of fried fare found on bar food menus, especially considering the price. That said, the Charcuterie board and steam clam chowder were excellent!
