Firefly Grill Ratings and Reviews
Another perfect meal at the fabulous firefly grill. I had the Korean Spice Ribs and they are my new favorite. I must admit that it's hard to have a favorite at the firefly because everything that I've ever had there was top notch. This is a must try for people who are traveling through Effingham. A unique environment with delicious food that most people would not expect to find in our small town. The customer service is amazing too.
Was passing through the area, and decided to check out Firefly Grill based on the reviews. The restaurant is a little close to the interstate - definitely was getting some road noise. However, the restaurant itself was very nicely designed with great ambience with a nice mixture of rustic architecture and modern touches.
When it came to drinks, I was planning on ordering a draft beer, however I was informed that their beer lines were down. Not good on a Saturday night!!! They did have bottle offerings, however, there weren't really any craft beers in bottles, which seems odd for such an otherwise classy place. I chose a cocktail instead, which was well-made, but not really what I was hoping for.
I ordered the ribeye with potatoes for dinner, with a starter salad. The meal was prepared very well. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the salad fresh and tasty, with a tangy vinaigrette. The steak was nicely presented on a bed of mashed potatoes, again well executed.
However, I have to say, the cocktail, steak and salad cost me $50 (pre-tip). Honestly, the food was very good, but not necessarily memorable. I have had equally good meals at home for a fraction of the cost, and I am not sure it was that much better than going to a chain restaurant, where I would have received a nearly comparable meal for $15-25 cheaper. If the food was locally sourced, I honestly couldn't tell the difference. For what I paid, I would have expected to be really wowed. On the other hand, this restaurant clearly is the best thing going in this area, and prices itself accordingly.
Met a friend half way between INDY and STL. After an afternoon of golf, we relaxed at Firefly to catch up with each other. We dined outdoors on the deck overlooking the pond. The food and service were excellent. We ended up staying for four hours due to the relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. After dinner we hung out awhile by the outdoor fireplace. The Firefly is an awesome place to spend time with family and friends. I like that they use local ingredients and highly recommend the pork porterhouse. I’ve eaten there many times when traveling and almost always plan my trips to include dinner at Firefly!
The place is great, we were there for one night, we do not know the area but a quick search online and this place was recommended. we are glad we tried it. The staff was very friendly we would definitely return. Only one request for my husband "Corona Beer" Thank you.
Shrimp cocktail, definitely a must and for me the cosmo was the best!!
What a surprise! The place was ablaze with flavors. I had the roasted pork shank and it was placed on a bed of Brussels sprouts and fall vegetables; it would easily feed two adults. I started with a Caesar Salad which was enough for two people as well. MY only issue with the salad was that there was two much dressing and it did not have the normal Caesar zip to it. The wine list was exceptional and the Red Schooner was over the top delicious and value priced.
I met friends from several different locations(Indy & St Louis). We all had a aprox 2 hour drive to meet and effingham seemed to be a central point for all.
Service was excellent and setting was good for"catching up" with my friends.
We plan to meet there again.
I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! it was a small "family reunion" with my hubby and kids and his sister, hubby and kids. Effingham is almost Midway between our two cities, so it was mainly out of convenience, but it was a great choice! Meal, service, and ambiance were perfect! We're already planning our next trip. Also, the bourbon ice cream atop the peach cobbler was insane!!!
Absolutely outstanding! Impeccable service, great ambiance and interesting, diverse food that always surprises and delights. We dine at Fire Fly 3/4 times per year as we are passing by Effingham and are always enchanted and amazed by this world class restaurant. Truly a favorite stop.
We invited our friends who have a place on Lake Sara to join us when we come to town for Corvette funfest. We were really caught off guard by the very high prices for a restaurant in Effingham. We have ate in Chicago on the lake front for better value Our friends and us will not be back
Remarkable farm to table restaurant. The creative menu highlights on site and local garden items. Food service from busboys, to food runners, to lead server are well trained, professional, and fun! Although not billed as a kid friendly place, they really are kid friendly. We saw a few families with kids who appeared sufficiently distracted by the server's attention, kid menu, coloring, and feeding the fish. Worth a drive or flight from anywhere. Fire Fly would be a top restaurant in any major city, yet this gem is tucked away off the interstate in a small mid-west town.
What a beautiful setting, esp. outside for a great farm to table dining experience (for lunch). Delicious appetizers. I had a fabulous wedge salad with shrimp (@ $4 each) and the ranch dressing was good, but a little too heavy on the dill seasoning. So tasty and a relaxing breeze with help of fans high above the covered porch out front. Super friendly and available wait staff. Go!
It was a good and bad dining experience. Here's the good = great outdoor seating ambience by the pond and fountain. We were able to view the sunset to cap off our dinner. The food was pricey but very good. The concept is great of growing their own fresh food and you can taste it in every bite. The service was excellent and prompt. We would love to recommend this restaurant to everyone until the end of our dinner so here's the bad = We had planned to have another drink and order desert. A couple was seated next to us and they brought their dog to a restaurant. Soon after another person joined them with two big dogs that were jumping around and their big tails kept hitting my husband. This is beyond unsanitary and unhealthy. I have dog allergies and had to leave. We were appalled that the food health department would allow this as well as management. We will never go back there again. This is an eating establishment for great food and not a dog park. There are places and times for animals to be; not at eating establishments whether it's indoor or outdoor.
The restaurant is lovely and all the food we ordered was delicious. There is a little bit of a service problem, however. All the servers we dealt with referred to us consistently as "you guys", as in I'll be taking care of you guys, do you guys want still or sparkling water, are you guys ready to order, are you guys enjoying the food, are you guys still working on that, did you guys save room for dessert? As we are all in our sixties and of male and female gender, this appellation seemed inappropriate and far too casual for the overall tenor of the restaurant. Clearly the training needs some work. We felt as if our servers most recently probably worked at Applebees and just had not received enough training to match their approach with the food decor and overall high quality of this restaurant.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our reservation. We were with the thousands of Eclipse watchers who crawled at 10 mph. from Southern Illinois. The host was understanding and gave us a postponed time, but we called and cancelled when we knew we would not make it. We
will plan another visit. Thank you. Eileen
We always stop on the way through from Chicago. The food is really good, frsh and creative. They grow the veggies right outside so you can walk the garden when in season . Great outdoor seating when its not 1000 degrees. Craft beers and cocktails always rotating. Some items seem on the "way too overpriced" side but I get that you're paying for the quality , service and atmosphere. Ask for Adam if he's there. I'm still not sure $28 Crab cakes in the middle of the grassland is a wise choice but thats up to you! I'll just say I didn't order them.
It still amazes me that this restaurant can be found outside of a major metropolitan area. My husband and I have eaten in a lot of good restaurants in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York and this one stands up to them all. It's open and friendly, the atmosphere is modern rustic without feeling fake, and the food is stellar. We sat on the enclosed porch this time and watch evening come on across their lake. It was lovely. After dinner it was an added bonus to wander out onto the deck, look out over the small lake, and feed the Koi. A little slice of idyllic in Central Illinois.
The Firefly Grill is amazing and worth the drive! The food is always fresh, delicious, beautifully plated and presented. Flavor combinations are spot on. Keep up the great work in the kitchen and kudos to the front of the house staff too! This is an operation that understands it takes a well-rounded team to enter the space of perfection:)
We're from Champaign and try to get to the Firefly at least once a year. They've got an awesome staff, fantastic food, and a nice indoor/outdoor space. The menu is very eclectic and interesting, and they clearly care about what goes into their dishes. Lots of home-grown ingredients, which is always appreciated!
