Firefly Grill

We stopped on our way home and it was a wonderful surprise. We look forward to more meals there as we drive past Effingham!

Heard about Firefly Grill via a billboard on the highway.
Great food. The portions were very large. We over ordered.
The Thai curry soup was thicker than I expected more like a hummus consistency.
The tuna poke was a shaved tuna versus sliced ahi tuna.
We were told the braised short ribs would be served on parapadella noodles. It was served with spaghetti noodles.

Reservation was for 8:15. Was seated at 8:30 after reminding them we were still waiting and 2 other couples were seated before us. Excuse was that it has hard to get tables opened up when 3 were vacant. Food was not done and was sent back!

We did not know ahead of time that there was a limited menu for New Year’s Eve.
I had already decided on a ribeye steak only to find out it was not available because they were using a limited menu. Very disappointing.
That said- what we did order was very tasty. Sea bass and the filet.
Server Jordan was great.

We had a great time for NYE!

The fixed menu and wine pairing for New Year's Eve is a great event. My husband and I try to go every year.

Loved the tasting menu with the wine pairings. My husband and I enjoyed the whole evening with great service.

We had the wine pairing on New Years Eve. The servers got mixed up bringing out the courses. Our main server seemed to have preferences on tables that got better service.

This is the 2nd New Years Eve tasting menu we attended and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious as always and the service was topnotch. We hope to attend the next one also.

Our meal was fantastic! We had family coming to Mattoon for the New Year and my first & only choice was Firefly. I am always confident that we will have a great meal!

Our server appeared to be a bit put out. I thought it was tacky that she was reaching over the cook side of our booth to grab our plates. For the cost she should’ve come around to the appropriate side to remove our dirty dishes rather than reaching over. Our friends ordered shrimp. It literally came with four and the buster tried taking two of them away without even asking if we were finished(btw: we weren’t!). It was my least favorite experience here

First time here. Great quality. Good service. Will be back soon.

It was average - nothing special and crazy overpriced

We have eaten at Firefly many, many times. This was not our most favored visit. We were there for the Christmas Eve brunch. We had specified on our reservation that we had a Vegan diner with us, but staff was totally unprepared to fix anything vegan. It took our server three trips to the chefs for them to decide they could fix a vegan stir fry. Which our guest said was very good. Everything else was up to our expectations except: Two diners ordered the hamburgers and were told it would come with French fries. (Firefly has excellent French fries). Both of their orders came with hash browns, which were very good, but not French fries.

We stop here on our way from Chicago to my in laws. The food and staff are great. It was disappointing this time. We went on a Monday and they were out of a few of their signature dishes. They said that it was a busy weekend, but they should have planned for that especially for signature dishes. I guess we'll have to try and get them when we come back in 6 months.

Fantastic Filet Mignon! Make sure you eat lots of the pretzel rolls they are amazing!!! Best mashed potatoes on the planet!

The food and atmosphere were great. The service was not, we waited around 20 minutes to be waited on and we were in a front booth.

My husband & I were passing through several years ago and we stopped at the Firefly Grill. The food was so amazing, we timed return trip to stop again. This time we planned our trip both ways to stop again. The food and service did not disappoint! The chicken & waffles was fabulous as was the scallop risotto. On our return trip, we ordered two pizzas, so we could bring the leftovers home!

All 4 of us had no complaints with our meals. Delicious! Service was great too. We were seated in the back which was a little cool. I will ask for the front dining room next time we come.

My husband and I went as a kind of Christmas present to ourselves (trying to give more experiences than objects) before a show at the EPC.

App: We tried the Poutine. The french fries were fresh cut and the cheese curds & gravy were very tasty! We also split a Simple Salad with the vinaigrette.

My meal: I decided to try the Risotto which meant it was my 1st time trying Risotto -) that my scallops & Risotto were perfectly cooked. I have been craving it since.

Husbands meal: He decided to go for the bone-in Ribeye. It was a perfect medium-rare. The steak quality was top notch & super tender. The whipped potatoes were some of the best I've ever had. Our only complaint on the steak is that it came with an herb butter on top which covered up the deliciousness of the meat itself. So if we go again we'd ask for just salt & pepper on the steak, that's just a personal preference thing though.

Our server, Brock, was very professional and made sure we were well taken care of. We were seated in the "sunroom" area and had a nice water view.

This was our second time eating here this year, food and service was excellent both times. Will be visiting again.

We enjoyed some of the less expensive items on the menu on this visit. By enjoyed I mean we found the hamburger, wedge salad, crab pockets and green fried tomatoes delicious.

Would prefer more vegetarian selections. The ones offered were great.

If they offer you Oysters Rockefellers, turn them down. Evidently the chef is just guessing what one looks or tastes like. The rest of the smalls were very good. The calamari was perfectly prepared and the crab purses were excellent. I had a small New York strip stake and while expensive, it was prepared perfectly. Overall, for a restaurant that we happened upon in our travels, it was a pleasant experience.

It is a nice alternative to Cracker Barrel! The food was pretty good. The topping on the fish taco was delicious but the fish was like a fish stick! Service was excellent and we will go back for sure!

Loved the crab purses, the stroganoff and the risotto. The service was genial.

Great place for an upscale lunch or a celebratory dinner. I believe Firefly is the best restaurant in the area.

The food was great! The service was outstanding! We had one of the best waitresses I have ever had, and I mean that sincerely. She made our time there awesome!

This was our fourth time visiting Firefly Grill. This time I ordered the 10 oz Filet, whipped potatoes, baked mac-n-cheese, French onion soup, crab purses, apple cobbler, peach soda, and a glass of Elmer T Lee Bourbon 100th Birthday. I would recommend this to anyone. There are many dishes of all price ranges. The ingredients are the freshest and finest around. The service was fantastic. If you are on the ledge, take the chance, splurge on a nice cut of meat, and enjoy!

Exceptional food and ambiance in any city in the world and far exceeded my expectations for Effingham Illinois. I would highly recommend it to anyone who plans to be in the area. The staff was friendly, helpful and very committed to making our experience exceptional

The only complaint is I live so far away and can only come here every few months. The food is always sooo delicious and everyone who works here is sooo great.

Pre gig dinner - outstanding service, food. Had the crab 'purses', fall salad, salmon, and crab cakes. While the crab cakes could have been a bit hotter, they were still delicious. Great wine list and fun cocktails.

Really lovely place! Great atmosphere, service and food

We went for the fall harvest tasting so the menu was set for four courses with options only for the entree course. We've been to many of Firefly's tastings and this one was as good as the rest. The first course included some of the best roasted red and gold beets; a real treat. The second course was roasted cauliflower and it was a show stopper! I've never had anything like it before or tasted anything quite like it. For our entrees, I had duck and my husband had pork shank and we were both very pleased with them. Dessert was a pumpkin and goat cheese creation with homemade graham crackers. I would recommend Firefly any time; tasting menu or regular menu!

We love the Firefly Grill and go down to Effingham whenever possibly. It is well worth the drive.

We were lifelong residents of central Illinois (Decatur) and had Firefly on our routine dinner date list with close friends that lived in the Sullivan area. It is by far our favorite place downstate and can compete with any foodie venue, even in the Chicago/STL markets. We can't say enough good about this place. We now live in Nashville and anytime we are back 'home', we make a stop at Firefly as we make out way back to our new surroundings.

Upon walking in I was greeted by a friendly lady at the front desk and I asked to wait at the bar while the rest of my party showed up. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave me some recommendations. Besides our server, the support staff seemed very engaged in our experience, which made us feel at home. Thank you! The ambiance and decor of the restaurant are top notch and I loved the open kitchen. If I could go there twice a week, I would, but unfortunalty live out of town.
