The kitchen is the heart of the Campbell house which is why we created an expedition kitchen so customers can see all of the love and hard work that goes into our dishes. firefly's vision is a sustainable one; the frame of the building is recycled steel, all of the barn wood is reclaimed as is much of our furniture, the pond irrigates our gardens which greatly reduce our carbon footprint along with all the trash that comes with packaging food, we compost, are constantly upgrading our energy efficiency and NEVER use chemical fertilizers or pesticides in our garden.

    This was the second year that my wife and I visited Firefly Grille in Effingham, IL for our wedding anniversary. When I made the reservation through OpenTable, I marked that we were celebrating our anniversary; however, there was no mention or congratulations. If this option is not passed to the restaurant, then why have it as an option? When the server arrived at our table, I had to ask if there were any specials for the evening, as this was not reflected on the menu. The server was very nonchalant and acted like we weren't important as customers. The wait time between courses ranged from 10 - 20 minutes. For example, we had to wait over 20 minutes from our soup/salad course to our main entrees. The server didn't ask if everything was prepared correctly, and for that matter, I had ordered the Montana Filet and was never asked how I would like it prepared. My wife ordered the Thai Chicken and the egg on top was overdone. We will NOT be going back next year for our anniversary! Sad, sad service and even after speaking with the Front of House Manager, no apology was offered or anything. I believe we would have received better service at a fast-food restaurant!

    Solid experience overall, their specials had fresh offerings with bold flavors. My steak was a bit over salted and dessert was just ok. But definitely worth visiting again.

    Food was not nearly as good as i remember. Drinks great. Server great. Pasta was a C- compared to lower priced local Italian browning under I e cream was so hard could not be cut or eaten. Staff was kind to deduct the item. Residual taste was simply salt. No robust flavor as I recall from before. Love the place and the model, my dinner did. It hold up to standards this visit

    I ordered the prime rib and asked that it be cooked medium rare, when it was served and saw that it was what I would call medium. I told the waitress and she told me that they cook all if the prime rib to the same doneness. I told her that I would of ordered a steak it she would of told me that I couldn't get medium rare. She kind of gave me an on well and that was the end of it. She never offered to make it right. Then I got the bill she charged me full price and they added a 5% service charge to the bottom line. I walked out and will never go back. Over priced for the quality of the food.

    I have been seeing the signs for Firefly Grill for decades when I drive from my home in St. Louis to my parents' home in Champaign. So when my husband and I and my sister, brother-in-law and niece and nephew had an occasion to be near Effingham on Father's day, it was the obvious choice for a place to meet up and have a meal. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautifully situated the restaurant is on the grounds. We were also very impressed by all of the plants and food they grow on site. All six of us ordered a different entree from the brunch menu and everyone loved what they received. We sat on the porch near the pond and it was lovely. Our server was top notch, the restrooms were clean, and as we had a reservation, our table was waiting for us upon arrival. 5 stars, zero complaints.
