Firebox Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time dining at the Firebox. We wanted to try something new before seeing a show. After reading reviews, we just had to give it a try.
The service was excellent and our waitress was wonderful. The menu is intriguing and refreshingly different as well as the cocktail and wine list.
Our group ordered scallops, chicken and duck. The presentation was beautiful! The scallops were cooked to perfection, yet lacked a little flavor. The chicken was a little dry, but the duck was said to be delicious.
We would definitely like to try it again and perhaps sit in the tavern next time.
It was nice to have parking, but a little tight.
Not to downplay the experience. We had a wonderful night and will surely try it again.
We has New Years Eve dinner at Firebox and it is all we could have hoped for and more. The space is beautiful, hip and warm. We sat in the bar area which had a great vibe. The bar and wait staff was excellent and the food just as good. The part that made it an absolute slam dunk though was its commitment and giving back to the Frog Hollow neighborhood. That story made it even more worth the money! I would highly recommend visiting.
My husband and I ate at Firebox for dinner on NYE. We were both beyond impressed with the selection, the service, and the quality of the food. We tried the brussel sprouts for an appetizer and they were beyond awesome. I had the harvest risotto and I added the butter poached lobster to it. Amazing. My husband had the roasted chicken which he thought was delicious. Although the dessert menu is small, we still managed to select two different desserts to try. We had the apple bread pudding and the special of the evening (toffee cake concoction). The apple bread pudding tasted like a grandmother made it! The toffee dessert has me at a loss for words. It was insanely good. I couldn't get enough of it! Firebox has a great drink and wine list, too. We will absolutely return to this restaurant. I highly recommend!
I was so excited about trying Firebox after reading all the great reviews, but after dining with them on New Years Eve I was very disappointed. Straight to the point we were served RAW salmon. I got our servers attention after cutting into it, and he sent a women over who I believe was the manager, right away when she looked at the salmon she knew what the problem was. She said I will get this fixed. When they brought back the Salmon we turned it over to see that a third of the salmon was missing. Probably from the cook putting it back on the grill and it maybe falling apart I don't know, but it was unacceptable. If the cook had some fallen pieces he should have cooked another one not give us the same one (considering that we paid for a full piece). It threw off the dining experience since we received our meals at different times and we waited so long for our food in the first place. After that no one came to check on us I had to ask for another glass of wine. When the bill arrived the server didn't even bring it he had his assistant bring it over. The whole situation felt very dismissed. I would like to say that they were NOT very busy in the bar so I can't even give them that excuse. Unfortunately I will not be going back.
My wife and I own a farm and produce the majority of our own food, if we do not produce it we source it from local trustworthy farmers who share our values. We go out to dinner maybe 4 times a year and the majority of those times it is to the Firebox. Always a great dining experience with great service and knowledgeable staff.
We enjoyed our visit tot eh Firebox very much. Service was pleasant and attentive. Food was great - pork chops done perfectly with tasty accompaniments. My friends both enjoyed the risotto and scallops as well. There was a good selection of wines by the glass and the ours were generous. I would l highly recommend Firebox.
Great pre-theater meal with friendly, accommodating staff and locally-sourced unique food. Parking, including valet, is a plus. Opens at 5:30 (on the Saturday I was there), which was the time of my reservation. Wish I’d known that and wish they’d open just a bit earlier. Overall great experience though.
Our drinks and meal were perfection! Wouldn't change a thing. Brussel sprouts were life-changing. The Salmon and scallop/tortellini special was amazing. The drinks, coffee and salted chocolate pudding absolutely delicious. My only gripe was the bill. With the tip it came to $250 for three people and there was no pre-Bushnell discount as I thought there would be.
Yelp has hit a home run once again! What a great place! We were a part of 4 for Sunday Brunch. Totally enjoyed the "bloody delicious" beverages and another one made with espresso and whisky - sorry don't remember the catchy name. The entrees were fantastic - pork cutlet egg sandwich, steak and eggs and something that looked like a breakfast burrito unconstructed! Delicious, interesting flavors, served piping hot! Oh, don't miss dessert - trio of ice creams- fig, amoretto and raspberry served with pretzel-brittle and a chocolate peanut butter thing that was heavenly. Great service, friendly staff and a wonderful ambiance. Next time we are in Hartford, we will be back. You will not be disappointed.
My wife and i have been to this restaurant many times, all of which were enjoyable and memorable. However, this time we ordered, among other things, two rib eye steaks @$36 ea. ( medium rare). They were terrible, in that they were dry, tasteless and tough. In retrospect i should have sent them back. We did mention this to the front end as we were leaving but i am not certain the message was delivered to the management or cook staff. I like this restaurant but with other competitor options it may be a long time before I return.
Our dinner was excellent. There were four us and we had steak, scallops, duck and salmon respectively. The service, unfortunately was quite poor and we had to wait a number of times and had to flag down help. I would go back though and hope for improved service.
No friendliness in service. We were not going to the theater. Waitress appeared rushed we were given the impression she was just doing her job. Food was very good. Pork Chop was excellent. Martini was excellent. A little too noisy but otherwise ambiance was nice.
