Firebox Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time dining at Firebox. Both times we came on a Sunday for breakfast/lunch. We tried different items from the menu on both occasions. All the food we've had so far has been delicious.
It's a really fair price, too. We've eaten much less interesting food for much higher cost.
I have always liked Firebox a lot, but our experience there on this past Saturday night was way beyond my expectations, and I really think the place has taken itself to another level. I love the look and feel of the place. We were in the large dining room in the back -- a group of eight there to celebrate my adult daughter's birthday. We all ordered differently, and everyone was thrilled with the food. It was delicious, interesting, ethically and locally sourced -- and one of my personal measures -- piping hot when brought to the table! The service was also outstanding. So, a fantastic experience at a great restaurant.
Terrific restaurant. I would have given it 5 stars all the way around except that: 1) it was a little loud; granted, it was parents weekend and a Saturday night so it was understandable and, 2) the wine seemed a bit pricey but maybe that's just Connecticut.
The food, presentation and service were great. If offered, don't miss the bread pudding. Thanks.
We had a show at 8pm in a Saturday and wanted to make sure we had plenty of time. Arriving 15 min early for our 5:30 pm reservations was a good idea for parking. Luckily the weather was nice because the restaurant doors do not open until 5:30. We and 8 other diners waited in the seats outside the door and had a nice chuckle about that.
We nice settled in we really enjoyed the seasonal cocktails and conversation. The menu was varied and we each were extremely happy with our selections. Great ambiance, excellent service and excellent food!
We will definitely return.
If you have an 8:00 show, let your server know. Just a prudent thing to do in those busier nights.
Food was delicious and service was adequate. However, everything was overpriced. Nothing astronomical, but we spent 140 dollars on a date night for two. There are many more places in W. Hartford with the same quality of food and service for much cheaper prices.
This was the second time we stopped at Firebox while driving through Hartford via I-84. Both meals were excellent. We noticed more diners this time so their reputation must be spreading. For us it’s a convenient and tasty break from our drive from PA to NH.
The food is a little boring. The green goddess dressing was not. Very few vegetables in the salad. Bread cold. Gnocchi good but a little more contrast on the plate would have been nice. Something salty maybe, like parmesan. Dessert good. Nothing stands out as spectacular.
We arrived one hour before we had to be at a show at the Bushnell. They knew about that when we arrived and made every effort to make sure we got out on time which we did. Loved our waitress, extremely knowledgeable, great personality, we loved her. She knew her wine. I'd go back there in half a second.
This place never disappoints. The food is farm to table, creative, and fresh. The staff is always friendly. They always make their guests feel special. That, combined with their mission of community service (hiring community people and teaching them the food business) makes this one of my go-to places for most any occasion.
What can they improve? The background music is often too loud for my tastes. And the temperature can be somewhat on the cool side. On a recent visit, it was actually more comfortable to sit outside than to stay indoors with the air conditioner blowing.
The ambience and decor were great! The bartender, Lauren, makes one mean Old Fashioned, and is super nice to boot! Our server, Rachel, was friendly, knowledgeable, and the rest of the staff were friendly and attentive, too. My wife had the sea scallops, which were rad, and I had the cider braised pork shank, which is what you should have. Twice. It's that good.
our second time at Firebox. First was a few years ago and it was wonderful. Made a reservation for 2 at 6:30 and it was accepted. When we arrived, we told reception our name and reservation request. We were ushered to a VERY noisy bar area. we requested the dining room and were told there were not any seats. Gave us the bar and dining menus and took a drink order. we ordered our food about 10 minutes after we sere seated. the salad came out - still no drinks - told they would be right over. 10 minutes after that, we received drinks. A large group came into the bar and were having a great time - about 2 feet from our table. The food was uninspiring and expensive. We were very disappointed.
I found Firebox while looking for something near the Bushnell. It was an amazing time. The staff asked if we where going to a show and was quickly on top of everything so we could leave in time. I had a fantastic cut of steak that made me want to go back the next day to have it again. The one thing I would tell you to be careful of it the house drink, the Firefox fever I think it was. It was a sneaky little drink that didn't hit me until we got up to leave. : )
This is my 4th time going and it has been consistently excellent for both service and food quality/presentation. A little pricely but totally worth it - especially for a special occassion. Great choice for those going to the Bushnell - a less than 10 minute walk.
