Firebox Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
This was my second experience with Firebox and just as exceptional in every way like my first visit. Love the varied and changing menu filled with original culinary delights and twists on traditional features. The cocktail creations are as varied and creative as the food selections. Fresh local ingredients inspire mouthwatering flavors in everything they create. My husband and I invited our adult daughter and her boyfriend to enjoy Sunday brunch. All four of us had ordered different drinks and meals and everything was outstanding! I doubt they would serve anything less than perfect, but if they did they would bend over backwards to make things right. This business owner understands how to run a restaurant and that pleasing the customer is the only goal. I can't wait to return!
I had a very pleasing brunch date with a friend during this most recent visit to Firebox. As in the past, the food, service and atmosphere were top rate. I had the flannel hash (a healthy take on corned beef hash), tasty cranberry orange zip beverage, delicious salted chocolate pudding, and a very satisfying espresso. I'd recommend Firebox for brunch, everyday dining (especially in the tavern section), and special occasions.
We were seated promptly for our 6pm reservation. We told the waiter we had theater reservations for a 7:30 show. He assured us we would be out in plenty of time. We were not served our meals until 7pm. It was very disappointing. This is a restaurant that is used to pre-theater dining and it was not a pleasant experience. I will only return for lunch.
Firebox never anything but amazing. Every experience I’ve had dining there has been incredible—both in terms of food and service. Last night’s dinner was the best I have ever had. In a packed restaurant with many of us dining before a Bushnell show, we had to wait a bit to be served. Management and our waitress responded impeccably, showing that this restaurant is one of a kind even with a full house.
The chef is one Firebox should never let go of. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, and were able to be ordered minus the walnuts due to a nut allergy. The main course was cooked perfectly, and the dessert was hands down the best I have ever had. Top it off with a great bottle of wine and this last visit goes down as my favorite of any dining experience I have ever had. Thank you Firebox!
My husband and I enjoyed a date night here on February 4th, 2018 and ordered from the Taste of Hartford menu. The amazing flavors, aromas, textures and presentation were perfect. The carrot apple soup had layered flavors that sung together perfectly. The lamb bolognese with homemade pasta was one of the best lamb dishes I have ever had. And for dessert the extraordinary sticky toffee pudding with blood oranges was most satisfying! I also loved the drink called Adam & Eve: calvados, four roses bourbon, local apple cider, maple, lemon, cardamom bitters (I requested to leave out the bitters) and egg white. It was so wonderfully delicious, and not sweet but had a great balance of the flavors. I hinted to my husband that this place would make a wonderful choice for birthdays and anniversaries. Everything was served immediately after preparation at the perfect temperature. You cannot go wrong with dinner at the Firebox! My only complaint was that I wished my empty dishes would have been removed a bit sooner as I finished each course, but that was a totally minor complaint.
Went to Firebox for Restaurant Week before a show at the Bushnell and had a great dining experience. The kale caesar salad was pretty good. The black pearl salmon was excellent and the bourbon mustard sauce was tremendous. The warm sticky toffee pudding desert was to die for. I recommend that highly. I thought our service was a little bit slow, but not bad. All in all it was a wonderful meal and I'd recommend it to anyone.
We went in for Sunday Brunch. Came in at 1:30, their Brunch closes at 2:00, but they accommodated us and sat us on a nice table by the window.
The ambience is nice with exposed brick walls and an industrial decor. Food menu had good options but could be better. We tried the Shrimp and grits and eggs Benedict with Salmon. Food taste was good. Good selection of cocktails. Good for a casual meal with friends and family.
Taste of Hartford choice. Courses nicely spaced so you didn't feel rushed for the next customer.
Portion size perfect, full and not overstuffed. All the food was excellent. Did the wine pairing with each course for an additional cost, wines all were good, would have enjoyed an extra swallow or two with the appetizer and entree. Will definitely return.
A very disorganized restaurant. The food was just OK.. I support their farm to table efforts and the rehab of the old forge but the food needs to taste more cared about and more farm to table.. We had different waiters and even the hostess brought knives when the waitstaff forgot and couldnt be found..
The servers are always amazing and I've never had less than excellent food. The bread to start is usually the only let down of the whole meal, but that seems like such a silly thing to complain about. The sticky toffee pudding was a highlight of this trip along with the mussels.
This was our first time dining at the Firebox. We wanted to try something new before seeing a show. After reading reviews, we just had to give it a try.
The service was excellent and our waitress was wonderful. The menu is intriguing and refreshingly different as well as the cocktail and wine list.
Our group ordered scallops, chicken and duck. The presentation was beautiful! The scallops were cooked to perfection, yet lacked a little flavor. The chicken was a little dry, but the duck was said to be delicious.
We would definitely like to try it again and perhaps sit in the tavern next time.
It was nice to have parking, but a little tight.
Not to downplay the experience. We had a wonderful night and will surely try it again.
We has New Years Eve dinner at Firebox and it is all we could have hoped for and more. The space is beautiful, hip and warm. We sat in the bar area which had a great vibe. The bar and wait staff was excellent and the food just as good. The part that made it an absolute slam dunk though was its commitment and giving back to the Frog Hollow neighborhood. That story made it even more worth the money! I would highly recommend visiting.
My husband and I ate at Firebox for dinner on NYE. We were both beyond impressed with the selection, the service, and the quality of the food. We tried the brussel sprouts for an appetizer and they were beyond awesome. I had the harvest risotto and I added the butter poached lobster to it. Amazing. My husband had the roasted chicken which he thought was delicious. Although the dessert menu is small, we still managed to select two different desserts to try. We had the apple bread pudding and the special of the evening (toffee cake concoction). The apple bread pudding tasted like a grandmother made it! The toffee dessert has me at a loss for words. It was insanely good. I couldn't get enough of it! Firebox has a great drink and wine list, too. We will absolutely return to this restaurant. I highly recommend!
I was so excited about trying Firebox after reading all the great reviews, but after dining with them on New Years Eve I was very disappointed. Straight to the point we were served RAW salmon. I got our servers attention after cutting into it, and he sent a women over who I believe was the manager, right away when she looked at the salmon she knew what the problem was. She said I will get this fixed. When they brought back the Salmon we turned it over to see that a third of the salmon was missing. Probably from the cook putting it back on the grill and it maybe falling apart I don't know, but it was unacceptable. If the cook had some fallen pieces he should have cooked another one not give us the same one (considering that we paid for a full piece). It threw off the dining experience since we received our meals at different times and we waited so long for our food in the first place. After that no one came to check on us I had to ask for another glass of wine. When the bill arrived the server didn't even bring it he had his assistant bring it over. The whole situation felt very dismissed. I would like to say that they were NOT very busy in the bar so I can't even give them that excuse. Unfortunately I will not be going back.
