   Overall another enjoyable visit. Only 2 issues: 1) entry’s came within 1 minute of receiving our salad 2) I had the chicken which was dry and over done Will definitely return

   I think our server was named Kaitlin. She was amazing. She was very attentive and personable. The food was outstanding. The manager was also very attentive. A steak at our table was a little undercooked. Kaitlin was very nice about taking it back to cook it a little more. The manager came to the table to assure us that they would make the steak to his liking. Everything about the restaurant was very impressive.

   Service was good, but the food was subpar. The steak was overcooked (ordered medium, came out well done) and the mashed potatoes were lukewarm the second they brought the food out. My wife and I both ordered the New York strip and one was so fatty over half the steak was a waste of meat. The other steak was less fatty but had zero seasoning and tasted dry and bland. The waiter and manager came and talked to us and made us feel like we didn't know what we were talking about and came insisting we get a Filet instead. We always order a New York strip when we want steak and know what a normal amount of fat is. Not what you would expect from a $30 steak that the waiter said was "amazing, can't go wrong with it." Save your money and go to Flemmings if you want a steak. At least they make every bite melt in your mouth and make the money spent worth it.

   We went to Firebirds to celebrate my wife’s birthday, which was noted on the reservation. There was no recognition of her birthday. Why ask if it’s a special occasion if it’s not to be recognized? The side salad was quite large, almost a dinner salad. Bread was served with butter. The only available knife to spread the butter was a large steak knife. While on the subject of silverware, I ordered an iced tea with sugar. Both were delivered in reasonable time. However, the only utensil available to me to stir the sugar was my dinner fork. The resulting tip reflected this massive gaffe. I should NOT have to ask for a spoon to stir iced tea. I ordered a New York strip step, prepared medium. When I cut the steak, I thought I cut my finger given the amount of blood filling the plate.. I never saw the waitress to ask that the steak be cooked as ordered. Again, the tip reflected the lack of service. I tried to box up leftovers as the waitress was reaching over me to clear the table. Obviously we were interfering with her work. After she brought the check, the waitress actually disappeared. I thought David Copperfield was in the house. After a considerable wait she processed the payment. We were impressed the first time we went to Firebirds. We are crossing this restaurant off of our return list.

   Ordered the prime rib and scalloped potatoes. The potatoes were frozen on the inside and the prime rib was supposed to medium rare looked like its was sitting there. So dry and cold. For the price we paid for this food, it was such a disappointment. My husband wanted medium rare for his strip and it came out blue and more than half the strip was fat and gristle. The server was so sweet and took care of my potatoes but the rest was just disappointing. Couldn't get a word in edge wise with the manager he wouldn't listen even if we could actually talk to him. He wouldn't stop talking. Won't be going back.

   This is not the first time we’ve dined at Firebirds when they’ve totally screwed up the experience. How much hospitality expertise does it take to know that the appetizer comes first and then the entree’ ? After three requests for bread, none ever arrived—even after a talk with the manager. Our waitress took our order, and we didn’t see her again until she cleared our plates. Not even a semblance of an apology from her for the screwup or poor service. Out of the past four times we’ve been at Firebirds, they’ve managed to seriously mess things up three times. Their poor batting average is just too much for me. We’ll never go back. They comped the meal, but that’s no substitute for fixing whatever seems to be wrong here. There are too many other excellent restaurants with great service in the Des Moines area for us to give these guys another chance.

    Love the patio and unique menu. Our group tried a few items that included “spicy” and “hot” in the description and found that they weren’t spicy at all, they were flavorful/zesty which I liked as not a big spice gal but my husband wanted some more punch. My favorite item so far the lobster spinach queso, but I have only been here twice and have much more to try! The menu is pricy, but you get lots of food and leftovers are almost guaranteed!

    Over all pretty good. Outstanding waiter, and wish I remembered his name!!! But the filet was over cooked. And I would the the prime rib was so so in the flavor department - too much pepper with not much else. All things being said, I am sure we will come back!!! My granddaughter loved that there is a good vegetarian hamburger on menu!!!

    This was our first time dining at Firebirds. We arrived at our 6:30 reservation and we were seated within 5 minutes. They were pretty busy. We ordered our dinner at around 6:45 and just sat and had good conversation. Our dinner was finally delivered to our table at around 7:40. Our server, Kelsie, was great. She made sure our drinks were full and we had bread for the table. The manager came over immediately after our food was delivered and asked if it was good. Really?! I told him I wasn’t sure as we hadn’t taken a bite. Our food was average. Not great but not bad. With that being said our bill was $73.00 and we didn’t have cocktails. So my opinion is average food for a very expensive price. There is better food at other restaurants for not as much money.

    Everything was fine. Nothing really good, nothing really bad. To compare, our family of 4 spent $180 here for completely fine food vs $250 for a little "wow" factor at 801. I'd spend the extra $70 if you can.

    Our server was excellent. Her timing was right on for each step in our experience. A couple dishes didn't have quite the flavor three of our eight diners were expecting. One's chicken pasta was described as bland, and although the ribs were prepared fine they were described as skimpy in terms of the meat to bone ratio for the price, and a bit lack luster in flavor. One diner made the comment they needed more fat and perhaps they were overly trimmed. Aside from those negatives, our appetizers did not disappoint and the balance of the entrees received favorable reviews.

    We have eaten here several times. This visit was for "Mother's Day Brunch." One of our party asked the server if one item could be slightly modified (fried eggs instead of poached) and was told that eggs were pre-poached and no changes were possible. When some of the food arrived not matching the menu description, we asked the server, who returned with a bowl of the missing ingredient, still frozen. Overall, a mediocre experience.

    Food was so Salty, 3 of the 4 at the table could not finish our meals. The fourth ordered Prime Rib and it arrived to the table cool and quickly went cold, was also moderately tough to cut. Cocktails seemed rather over priced for quantity received, quality was good on all but 1. Creme brulee Cheesecake was amazing though.

    Overall - I wasn’t impressed. Our food wasn’t super warm when we got it. The server didn’t put our order in but apologized. Totally get it - super busy. This said our server was great and gave us a free appetizer. This said food quality was less than desired. There are better places in town to go for the price we paid.     It was a great atmosphere right away when we walked in with a fire going in the fireplace and it smelled wonderful! My sister and I shared the smokehouse burger and it was excellent along with the crispy seasoned steak fries.

    Decent place for dinner. Service was slow that night with few people in on a Sunday evening. Hostess asked if I wanted a second beer, forgot to deliver it to me, then charged me for it. She took it off the bill and all was good after.

    I wasn’t impressed. The restaurant was quite noisy and it was difficult to hear others in our party of 4. Food was fine but not impressive and for the price I would have liked more. In terms of service, our waitress was attentive and met our needs. Again, nothing special but she did a fine job. I don’t think it’s on my list of places to return to.

    Enjoyed our meal very much. Food was cooked to perfection and we even took home some extra garlic thyme butter because it is SOOOOOOOO good! Our server was very good too. Great place to meet up with friends. Nice wine list-the house wines are very good. The only thing I would suggest is to serve a basket of bread - missed that with our meal!

    There have been a lot of mixed reviews on here but they were on point last night. We got the ahi seared tuna starter, the roasted garlic sirloin, the aged ribeye, the au gratin potatoes and the port mushrooms. All of it was fantastic! The service was great too. Geoff was amazing and was very honest and knowledgeable and followed up the right amount of times to make sure we had what we needed and we were happy. Will definitely go back when we are in town again.
