Veteran’s Day dinner. FB was busy, but attentive. Only complaint is of the noise level. Nothing new.
It was okay. The food was somewhat salty, our loaded baked potatoes came out lukewarm and bare, and our steaks came with just one side—so plate was kind of barren. Our reservations were for 7:15 and we were not seated until after 7:30. The young man who was the greeter was more interested in being efficient and how the Bama-LSU game was progressing rather than than being helpful and even somewhat pleasant. He actually got into a heated argument with another customer who had reservations earlier than ours. (The hostess jumped in and seated the couple and came back and teamed out the young man—“Never ever ever argue with a customer. Ever. Ever.). Once we were seated, our server Asia met us with a big smile and carefully went over the menu and drink options. We put in our wine request—she came back to let us know very apologetically that the bartenders said it would be at least ten minutes before they could get to it. We were seated in a large booth close to the kitchen, and while I usually enjoy seeing the goings on, the guy barking orders to the cooks and hurrying them on did not add anything to our dining experience. It felt like I had to hurry up and eat! The lady at the next table had to send her pasta back as it was cold under the somewhat warm top layer. So, the meal was meh, but Asia did a great job trying to keep us happy. She was the bright spot along with the hostess up front. We generally are in the Short Pump several times a year—we probably won’t be back and will stick with some of the other choices in the area from now on—like Coopers Hawk, Maggianos, Bakers Crust, and Umi (sushi).
The seafood pasta was a little saltier than to my brothers taste. He didn’t enjoy his meal as much as he wanted due to the seasoning of that dish.
The good was great although a bit pricey. There were eight people at our table and the server had no problem with our order. My husband and I drove up there from Virginia Beach, and one of the other couples drove down from Covington. We enjoyed it so much that We Will probably make the trip again in a few months.
I've been to this chain in other cities and I was underwhelmed with this visit. The server appears to be underage and did not know anything about the mixed drinks or the food on the menu. The food was nothing to write home about and my guest said she won't be back.
Regarding the Ribeye- my boyfriend said it wasn't flavorful like it usually is. He added salt and pepper to it which he virtually never does when ordering it. It's his staple at Firebirds, so this was definitely an anomaly. The Au Gratin potatoes were great! Creamy and great flavor. Color was a lot less orange than we've noticed in the past. Not a complaint, though. At the Fredericksburg one (the one we live near), we've gotten a few burnt ones that we had them take back. I'm all for a little brown, but some we've gotten had a lot of black on top.
The Cobb Salad with added steak- it was okay. I'm used to a bit more tomato and cheese than this one had on it. Also, the lettuce was in larger pieces than usual. I know that's an unusual complaint. Just something I really like about Firebird's salads, that the lettuce is kind of chopped up semi finely. :) Not a big deal, I suppose.
Service- waitress and manager were really nice and attentive for the most part, but our food took over an hour to get to us because of the computer crashing and them not realizing the order didn't submit. It wasn't too busy when went, so we were a bit confused. It would have been cool if the waitress checked on why our food was taking so long a bit earlier than an hour that it took to figure out the issue. I think we got there at about 5:50(?), and we always order when we order drinks because we always know what we want. We got notified of the order issue at about 6:49 I think. I looked at the time.
We had just gotten off a plane and my boyfriend had run a half marathon that morning in Orlando, so we were kinda tired and grumpy. We weren't anticipating being there that long. I realize that's our problem, not yours, but it added to the disgruntlement we felt. We did get comped a piece of cheesecake. But it was strange how long it took to get it out to us, too.
We will definitely be back. Firebirds is one of our favorite places to go.
Great fun place. This time the prime rib had too much fat on it. Great wait staff.
We were welcomed warmly when we arrived. Rebecca was our server. She was one of the most honest servers we've ever had. We did all appetizers; ranch rings, smoked wings & Philly eggrolls. We loved everything, though my wife thought the sauce for the eggrolls was a little sweet. The sangrias were perfect! The manager came by our table to check on us. THIS is what we're accustomed to when we come to Firebirds!
Weren’t seated at reservation time
Waiter was exceptional. Wish I could remember his name. He was very attentative and did not want for anything.
We had a great time and the food was fresh and the service was great!
Excellent meal and a pleasant staff. Handled a changed reservation like pros. I like Firebirds because it’s upscale but not a budget buster.
So I’ve tried 3 times at Firebirds to get a steak cooked Medium. I’ve determined it’s impossible, they just can’t pull it off. It always comes rare and I send it back and they burn it and dry it out and is past well done. It’s a $22 steak and Texas Roadhouse always gets my steak Medium done right for $12.99.
Guess they need a Texas Roadhouse at Short Pump Town Center!
My family enjoyed everything about their fine dining.
Server that took our order was great- memorized 5 people’s order and got everything right.
Server that delivered our food seemed like she would have like to be anywhere but there.
Food was ok. 1 steak cooked just right, one a little undercooked but ordered same temp for both. Chicken sandwich was unimpressive, expected it to be bigger considering the price. Overall not bad experience but I’ve had better there before.
Firebirds met my family’s expectations with excellent customer service and great food. The staff was very friendly and courteous. I was pleased Firebirds had an available table ready for us 15 minutes ahead of our OpenTable reservation. Had an excellent selection of items on the kid’s menu for my little one. Firebirds is now the ideal place for my family’s future dinning experiences.
Other than the gnats flying around the table everything was grand.
Bad steak... delmonico too rare... sirloin charred
This was a rather underwhelming experience. I spent twice the cost of mediocre steakhouses and got the same mediocre taste, with less food. I got the NY Strip, which only came with one side, and the steak itself was nothing worth the $30+ price. I have had better $16 sirloins at Outback. If the prices better reflected the food, I’d recommend. But for that price, I could list 5 other steakhouses within 20min if anyone asked my recommendations, that I would know for sure would blow anyone away, come with 2+ sides, and make you ecstatic to spend $30-$40 on a steak!
The service was awful. Even with a reservation and coming early, the hostess stand was a mess. Only one person and very flustered. Refused our request to sit in a booth because “we don’t have staff for those right now” but then sat the next two parties in those booths right after us. Server never smiled until she brought the bill. We waited 20 minutes just for our drinks. No one ever checked back after bringing food to see if we needed anything else. Food was okay but not as good as it used to be.
Great waitress we will be back. Steaks were the best
Service was awful and food was worse.
Food took FOREVER! 55 mins to get dinner AFTER we sat down and ordered appetizers. We were there over an hour and half.
Food and ambience were excellent but service was slow and we did not feel the waitress was very attentive.
Great food and location
Everything about our dinner experience was amazing. The food was delicious, our server was attentive and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We will be returning!
Family dinner was awesome. We loved our entrees
Reservation was for 4 people at 1:00. Promptly seated and left to die. Eventually got up and let them know nobody had come to our table ever to give us water, drinks, silverware, etc. It went downhill from there. We eventually ordered and our meals arrived a few minutes before 2:00 (remember, we got seated at 1:00). Service was not unfriendly but inexcusably lacking in every other way.
This was one of the rare times that I had a poor experience here. I've eaten here several times which is why I'm still giving it a recommendation. However on this night, I experienced the following.
1. A 30 minute wait with a reservation. I was told the wait was due to a short staff.
2. I had to ask for silverware AFTER we were served our salads. The forks came with them, but no napkins.
3. Four steaks were ordered and of those THREE had to be sent back for refire. Even after the refire, the filet was still under cook, and also the sirloin. However, at that point it was not worth sending them back again. The manager did come out to apologize and the waiter did notice that the filet was still under cooked and apologized for that.
4. Our waiter did a good job and was attentive.
I've had better experiences here and maybe this was just a bad night.
Deviled Eggs were amazing. I Have never tried green beans with spiced pecans they were a little bit more sweeter then spicy However a great combination the green beans were firm not under or over cooked just perfect my salmon was very moist and cooked to perfection
EXCELLENT Service! Server was on top of everything and didn't have to ask for it! Wonderful meal.
We were seated promptly and food was awesome!
Can't wait to go back!
A birthday celebration turned into disappointment when the cut of prime rib ordered by my wife came 1. smaller than the 16 oz ordered; 2. totally rare, nearly raw; 3. half of which was fat and gristle. The meat was sent back. The ribs were served by a runner and when our server saw the piece of raw prime rib (end cut which should have been cooked through), she couldn't believe that the kitchen would send something out that looked like what we were served. Our appetizer onion rings were very good as were the salads and baked potatoes. My prime rib was good, but not as tender as one would expect. Was the meat really "prime"? The manager was very gracious and sent us dessert as a consolation and we were not charged for the prime rib that was sent back. There was definitely something going on in the kitchen when our server kept coming over telling us that it would be just a few minutes. Then a few more minutes. And on it went. Then we were told that the kitchen manager was checking to see if our order was alright. What did that mean? Obviously something wasn't right. A man at the table next to us sent his steak back to the kitchen too! This is one of our favorite Richmond restaurants. Service was good. Hopefully it was just an off-night. We will return but will be very careful about what we order next time.
They were amazing and helping make my boyfriends birthday very special!
All steaks were cooked perfect and tasty. We did not need any steak sauce. Our waitress was outstanding and made our birthday celebration special.
You may consider changing the bread that is too hard and crumbly. It made a mess on the table.
Thanks for your service.
My food was not cooked correctly and then they burned my steak making it inedible. I ended up not eating at all but they did take it off of my tab thankfully. I have always loved Firebirds but I will definitely be taking a break from going there until they can get better chefs.
Our waitress really ruined this dining experience for us. She told us that she had only been working there a month so we were understanding up to a point, but she was so frazzled and kind of rude that it made everyone in my party uncomfortable. She didn't seem to know the drink or food menu at all, which is fine for someone new, but the way she spoke to all of us made it seem like she didn't even want to wait on us. On top of the terrible service, the food was expensive and mediocre. My boyfriend's mom's steak was overly salty, and my cobb salad was drowned in dressing and the chicken wasn't crispy enough. I love the Firebirds in Fredericksburg, but the Short Pump location was really disappointing.
Double black diamond list its pineapple flavor. My husband had filet medium rare and the outside was charred black. Mashed potatoes was like glue. My chicken was good. And port mushrooms were tasty. Have had better and expected better. Was birthday dinner and we were not happy with food. Our server was excellent.
Excellent. Always good food, service and ambiance. Little loud, but will continue to dine and recommend.
Everything great except for the noise level. The good thing is that I wear hearing aids, and once I took them off everything even better. We have been married for 50 years now so we don't talk anyway.
We were a party of eight (seniors) dining prior to going to the Funny Bone Comedy Club. Our servers were quite efficient and the food was well prepared. However, we were extremely annoyed by the infestation of fruit flies. Throughout our meal we were constantly waving them away. One of the couples had suggested Firebirds to her sister for a birthday celebration two days after our visit, but advised her to go elsewhere because of our experience.
