We had restaurant week menu: scallops, salmon, risotto, cream brûlée. All dishes were quite good. I don’t remember name of my cocktail yet it was just ok; I expected something special given the way they advertise the uniqueness/originality of their drinks.
One nuisance was that they wouldn’t sit us until the entire party arrived and there was not enough space to sit at the bar so my husband had to stand till our party arrived. Overall, good food, music and ambiance and i recommend it for a pleasant relaxed night out
The place is nice. They have a live band which is good if you’re there to see a music band and don’t intend to speak with each other over dinner. Just way to loud for any conversation. The prices are very high. I went during restaurant week so the price was decent $42. Cheapest bottle of wine about $70 which is for a Shiraz or Pinot. Merlot or Cabernet starts above $100.
Great food. Amazing cocktails. Solid jazz with no cover. Service is outstanding.
The steak we ate was hard. But aside of that, the cocktails were amazing.
Scallop crudo was not fresh!!!!!
Pasta portions completely different between two plates (we each had the same thing).
For my husband’s birthday, we went here and it was a perfect, romantic spot for a good music and food. Enjoyed being near the band and listening to the smooth jazz throughout the night. Incredible ambiance and would recommend to anyone who would like to go for fine dining and music - literally a fine and rare location - and we will be back, again! Thank you for a wonderful experience ☺️
Came in for restaurant week in NYC! Great menu with many excellent options. Live jazz was on our night but other nights also have live performances.
Everything was amazing!!! We will come back for sure!!!!
Great classic jazz. Solid steaks and sides. Amazing drinks- the staff is especially knowledgeable about scotch and bourbon of all kinds. They did an awesome smoked version. We saw a 20s style trio that was very nice. Overall not cheap, but a great experience
Great ambiance and nice jazz. Very 1920s feel
It was great! Loved the ambiance and the food and cocktails were to die for! Highly recommend
Last minute lunch. Great service. New place for us. Restaurant Week menu. All great. Cocktails were plentiful in choice. Food tasty.
Service was well-meaning but close to incompetent (though the manager was spot on in being helpful, apologetic, and putting out a lot of fires all over the restaurant). My husband’s pork was inedible. Timing of courses and drinks was very bad. The band was great! A real miss.
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner! Our first server was Lauren and she was great with her knowledge sharing of the place. Chris continued with us for dessert. We went during restaurant week for dinner. Awesome scallops for first. We shared salmon and pork chop which were both fantastic. Best creme brûlée I’ve ever had and it complemented the fresh berry bread pudding. A very special meal. Everyone who served us, cleared plates, asked our name for the reservation went above and beyond to be kind and interested and really made our experience great.
The restaurant is so elegant and cozy. However, the music was very loud when the singer was singing.
Wonderdul atmosphere. Great dacour. The food and service are excellent. The only oddity is the menu selection. For a brunch menu it is far more breakfast than lunch and the selection I felt was overly heavy with egg based items. Then there is a hamburger...the only real lunch leaning item. All the food was great. Drinks were first rate. The live jazz was also great.
Great food cocktails and entertainment. Brian Newman band was excellent.
Excellent food. Live jazz done at a reasonable noise level. Beautiful ambiance.
Picked it randomly from the google search for that neighborhood, wonderful experience, excellent food, two different great jazz combos, good service and ambience. Highly recommend it for this type of evening out.
The service was great. The food was very good. The performance had 2 electric guitars and a drum kit and it was impossible to hear my date across the table.
Delicious food, outstanding service, lovely music.
I totally loved the entire experience from the time we were greeted at the door to the waiter service the ambiance the entertainment 5 star! I’ll be back!
Great New American cuisine with plenty of options for foodies and vegetarians alike. Loved the retro ambiance. Will be back for dinner and the amazing drink list.
Great ambiance with the live music and beautiful venue. The food was a little over priced for what it is
A great time with great music. I went for restaurant week. The scallops, burrat salad, salmon, creme brûlée, and bread pudding were outstanding.
Smoky old fashioned and the gimlet were also great!
Outstanding food and drink selection, everything was tastefully done, and the interior decor was classy. Live music was an excellent backdrop without being burdensome, allowing conversation even when sitting close to the stage.
An overall fabulous experience. Great food, drinks, service and ambiance. Live music was top notch.
Great talent on the music front. Excellent staff service, but it does not come cheap.
$48 steak was worth it though. Get a booth- best seating in the house, with a perfect view of the excellent entertainment.
Food and service was fantastic. The live music was great, but does make it hard to hear at times, but I wouldn’t change it. Two top table is tight given the portion sizes, water glasses and cocktails. Overall wonderful experience.
Everything you’d dream of in a quintessential NY experience. Beautiful decor, great music, pleasant service and wonderful food. One of my top 10 recommendations in Manhattan.
Amazing will be back soon!
Live the concept - disappointed on the seating - vast space in the restaurant and yet they wedged is into a packed section. Good service, cool vibe.
Went for restaurant week. Great drinks to compliment the fixed menu. Chops somewhat over cooked though. Great jazz music and ambiance.
Wonderful Came several times always fantastic hostess are always fantastic, food is excellent and the amazing liquor selection and specialty drinks are unmatched!
Food was great, Brian Newman and the band were awesome, Definitely will return and definitely will recommend
We loved the cocktails, food, service (Chris and Diana), the jazz. Unfortunately we don't like tables too small and the high noise level. (The place is too small) We just had dinner and go out. Prices? High like New York. 210 usd three drinks and two entrees.
A totally fantastic experience. We have been to over 30 of the “best bourbon bars” in America. This was, by far, the best. Wife and I can not recommend it highly enough.
Ok. I just spent a half-hour gushing about my experience at Fine and Rare. And guess what? Open table deleted it when I tried to publish. Thanks Open Table. So here's the short version:
Service: Impeccable from beginning to end.
Drinks: Holy crap, you've never had anything like it (get a smoked old fashioned with hickory & prepare to be wowed).
Food: I was with a party of seven and between us I think we ordered the whole menu. Everybody loved what they ordered. One of the members of my party ate her entire salmon dish in about five minutes, not because she was starving, but because it was THAT good. Meanwhile, I had the lobster, and it was not only one of the best lobster dishes I've ever had (and I'm a foodie who has eaten EVERYWHERE), it was enormous. If it weight an ounce, it weighed four pounds. The only dish that wasn't a hit was the scallop crudo. It's just drowned in juice that eclipses the taste of the scallop and is not very good, but that's not a restaurant issue. That's a recipe issue I'm sure they'll fix soon. Everything else? I don't know how you could go wrong.
Ambiance: Fine & Rare has live music (jazz) and I was concerned that my party wouldn't be able to talk. This wasn't an issue at all. Music was fantastic, but not intrusive, and it became a part of the experience that we genuinely appreciated.
In the end, I'd simply say that if you haven't been to Fine & Rare, you NEED to go, right now. You have no idea what you're missing. I didn't - and I'll be back tomorrow. :)
The music and cocktails are awesome! I would recommend coming to have drinks and watch a show but the food was terrible. They did not have the bottle of wine we wanted as listed in the wine list. The steak was full of gristle and salmon had an odd flavor and was cold.
Wonderful room and good quality live music. Food was the disappointment. I know it’s New York, and I expect to pay “New York prices” in a nice restaurant. But I expect at least well executed, inspired cooking at that level; in this area, the kitchen did not deliver — e.g., $14 for a plate of under-whelming, under-seasoned, flaccid asparagus, really? This is a great place for a drink and some live music in a charming room. But save your dinner money for another restaurant.
