FIG & OLIVE Newport Beach Ratings and Reviews
We visited with an out of town friend. There was almost no one in the restruant when we arrived, but filled up. Our waiter was fairly prompt in greeting us, but that was the end. He took a drink order which was slow in arriving and when it did, I had ordered a martini and it was brought with out olives. He came over and I asked for olives, which took about 5 minutes to arrive. He came right back to take our order, but we had not even looked at the menu, and asked him to come back. His second visit took about 20 minutes. The food came out hot and very well presented, but no follow up by the waiter. I went to an ajoining table to get silverware. The food was excellent, but the service, especially due to the price, was poor.
It was a disappointed experience,
1) our server began to explained one of the appetizer dishes, and told us she would come back, and never did.
2) We asked our waitress to have the heater above our table turn on, we asked her twice
3) took 1 hour to serve us soup and salad
4) we ordered side dishes for our dinner entrees and we didn't get served, we have to ask our waitress, we cancelled the order because all of us have started eating.
We had a nice dinner. Our server Eddie was very good. We have been here before when the noise level was tolerable. It got to be waaaay too loud and we had to yell over the table. We ordered a number of crostini , some sides, and a main for two of us. Everything was brought out at the same time. The table wasn't big enough to have everything on it and we should have been advised to do it in parts. The place is lovely and we enjoyed the dinner although it was a bit complicated and WAAAAY too noisy.
We came for anniversary and it was not a busy night. However, our waitress was the most unattentive waitress we have had in a long time. Thank goodness the food was good. She didn't come over to our table for quite a while, then the very few types she checked on us, she was in a super rush. We had to flag her down after waiting with empty drinks for a long time. Even to pick up our check, we just waited and waited. Made the evening very unpleasant. Disappointing.
Needed to find a place to eat fast. We were hungry and from out of town. Saw the name on the mall map, thought it sounded like n OK name and booked a reservation for a seat in the next 10 mins. We were hungry. It was delish. I had squash risotto. Friend had the chicken
Club sand. The bread and oil that was given at drinks was so yummy.
The Restaurant is very beautiful, a feast for the eyes in fact. The food was good. Our waiter seemed to be disappointed when we did not order appetizers. We would have ordered dessert had the service not been so lousy. It seemed odd that he pushed the appetizers and did not mention dessert and coffee. He did apologize for the service and comped the least expensive entree, which he did not have to do. I would give it another try, it seemed a bit understaffed the night we were there. It is a very beautiful place; I really would like to love it.
We were there to celebrate 2 birthdays. The crostinis and oysters where delicious. I had the mushroom risotto. seemed a little dry and heavy, but the flavor was good. I have had risotto that is light and creamy and that is my preference when it comes to risotto. The desert was delicious, pear tart. Our waitress was running around a lot. Seemed she may have been the only one covering the entire area where we where seated. She was patient with my elderly friend, but you can tell she was in a hurry to get to the next table. Our water glasses weren't filled. We had to ask for water each time. Regardless, we would consider going back for appetizers and drinks.
Always enjoy the Fig & Olive. Our visit for lunch on 12-1-2017 was very enjoyable except for the service. It was very slow and we had to ask for our waiter whenever we needed something. He did not come to our table to ask us if we needed anything after our food was served.
Went out to celebrate Anniversary with my girlfriend. Overall completely impressed. The newport location is a bit better than LA. But quality is top tier.
Beautiful interior. The experience was amazng. Service is great. Ordered pan roasted chicken and it was the best ive had. Highly recommend this dish. Profes are normal for a restaurant of that status. Will be coming back.
The night was amazing. The meal was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend requesting Clayton's section, if he is working. He is an absolutely phenomenal server, and made the night quite memorable. Full of great suggestions and pairings. He will make your experience that much better.
Love this place. Our waitress, although nice, was trying too hard to sell us up on appetizers, more food, wine and dessert. I appreciated her attentiveness, but sometimes a waiter/waitress needs to read their clients and realize we wanted a quiet chat without constant interruptions and asking us if we wanted more etc. She was obviously following restaurant protocol, but it was bothersome
Food is great and ambience is wonderful. I was a bit taken back by some of the lax staff. When we arrived no one was at the host station yet there was visible staff everywhere. There was a group of suited male staff standing inside the restaurant having a conversation and they clearly saw us yet continued their conversation. After a few minutes they broke up and and one of the gentlemen came to the host station to check us in. Later I got a message from Open Table indicating I missed my reservation????? I think the attention to detail is beginning to wear off for this otherwise superb restaurant. Been here several times and never had this experience. Would still go again but...
A nice dinner, but considering the cost for 4 people, even in Orange County, I thought was rather outrageous. A waiter that was a little over anxious and fast to speak turned good service into something a little annoying.
Food was good, but small amounts. Wine was way over priced. A bottle of average Chardonnay at $130, really? If it had not been the company of great friends and good conversation, this would have been a questionable experience, but when there is so much competition in this area, I cannot recommend Fig & Olive higher than I have.
The food is distinctive and thoughtful and the room very pleasant -- open, spacious, yet intimate because of the round booth. Mediterranean menu includes many vegetarian options. We were there for a major birthday and did not regret the choice. Valet parking a plus. Do try the crostini selections -- best part of the meal!
Service from the hostess & bartender was not inviting & frustratingly poor. For example, the hostess said there was an hour and half wait and we just had to check back (she couldn’t add us to a wait list). I then checked Open Table and there were multiple time slots open starting within 15 minutes. At the bar, I ordered a Manhattan but got an Old Fashion. When I asked, he knew he had made the wrong drink but served it anyway. Once at the table, the food waiter was polite & provided good service. The overall experience at Fig & Olive has declined significantly, risks losing brand equity, & I’d recommend going elsewhere.
Fig and Olive is a beautiful, well thoughtout restaurant with excellent service and menu choices. We decided to sit in what they refer to as the Garden where the tables are nicely spaced so that you don't feel crowded with other dinners. Rachel was our server and she was very familiar with the food and wine menus and was very helpful in helping us make our selections. I recommend this restaurant and hope to return for another great meal..
We celebrated a friends birthday and she loves this restaurant. It's horribly expensive for what you get but the ambiance is wonderful and the service was terrific. Choice of a birthday dessert was left to the birthday celebrant which was a nice touch. I felt that they were bending over backwards to provide a wonderful dining experience and I hoe the rumors that they may close are not true.
Brussel sprouts were overcooked to mush.
Cauliflower was under-cooked.
Crostinis were decent although the bread was too soft.
Paella was okay, but tiny and nothing special.
Fish was disappointing.
Beef carpaccio relied too heavily on the truffle oil and thick slices of Parmesan to mask the lack of real flavor; cherry tomatoes were incongruous with the dish.
Coffee tasted like diner Joe.
Thankfully, at least, service was terrific and the ambiance was nice. But overall, for the price and caliber of the location, the food was disappointing.
The L.A. location has better quality.
The restaurant is very cool, great décor and good vibe however the service was not what I had hoped for. It was very slow and our server didn't seem happy to be there! We received our water very quickly then nothing for a long time. When we finally ordered drinks and a bottle of wine it took a very, very long time to get them. I had only been here for lunch before and that was very good. I'd recommend for lunch but not dinner with so many other great restaurants around.
We've dined many times here but this time is was lackluster. We requested a quiet corner booth indoors and were seated in the patio in a small table -- not even a corner. The hostess seemed to be taking all guests to the patio for some reason even though this was at 5 pm. The zucchini carpaccio was bland, lacking olive oil/lemon, the crudo overdressed and the scallops with grit. We likely will not return here.
This is one of my favorite restaurants for a special date night. I've never been disappointed by the food here. I've always tried something different and it's all been delicious. The entire staff is awesome, always available to answer questions about the menu, the food and where it comes from, the restaurant and even the local area.
