I recommend this restaurant with some reservations. The ambiance and staff are very good. The food is expensive so I would expect it to be excellent. The lobster salad my friend and I had was not. The lobster was overcooked. The dressing on the salad was basically just olive oil and thus was very bland. Other items I have had on the menu are very good, but this was very disappointing and expensive!
The service was just not good. Had to wait too long for initial contact and even just to order. Seemed very understaffed as our server was trying but he had just too much.
The food was good. The Fig and Olive salad not as good as it should have been. One cut up fig in it. No dressing. Had to wait 5 min to get waiters attention to detail more salad.
Disappointed but maybe an off day? Hope so. Other locations very good.
My Fiancé & I celebrated our 1yr. Anniversary here. It was beautiful & we were quite impressed from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The ambience was wonderful. Decor beautiful. Service & staff were very friendly & personable. My Fiancé & i are very outgoing & enjoy talking to people so it was nice to be in such a welcoming environment. Our hats off to the chef. Food was very very delicious & plated very well. Thank you Jen so very much for treating us to Dessert. This was our first time here & we definitely will be back!!!! You left a lasting impression & definitely made our night special. Thank you again. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon!!!
The food was great, the ambiance was great the service was okay, I ordered an extra salmon on the side for my salad and it never came so I cancelled it, but they gave us a dessert on the house to compensate. It happens unfortunately but at least they made up for it. I’ll probably go back but to LA one to try that too!
Mediocre food. Nothing special
This had to be one of the very best dining experiences I have ever had. I’ve dined here several times and I am used to having a less than warm welcome at the reception desk but tonight was totally different, big smiles that set the tone for a wonderful evening. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING was perfect. The table, the food and the service could NOT Cb have been improved. It was an evening my dad and I will always remember and happily recall. Best mushroom risotto with scallops EVER.
Took my friend there for her birthday. The waitress was not attentive & ignored our gestures several times when we were ready to order. In the middle of the meal, She took away the smaller set of knife / fork after my friend set aside. Young lady, could you not see she has four more big jumbo shrimps to cut? She set aside the knife / fork on the plate where those pieces of shrimp was just cut. So you think jury because you have a man-made good looking face, patrons will just tip you well regardless how inferior your job performance is? It is service industry. If you just think you can get away with this man-made good look, please be advised - in Newport Beach, there is no short of man-made good looking woman with bad attitude. You certainly should think of another job where look might the only criteria required. When I presented you the OpenTable dining certificate, I patiently explained to you how to use it. The instruction for restaurant is clearly printed in ENGLISH not in French or Spanish. For one it is not our job as patrons to train you. For two if you don’t understand, ask the manager or me, not insist that I need to talk to a manager. Yes when I need to talk to your manager, it will be a complaint for you are wasting my precious time - it took 30 minutes just for this payment. Ridiculous. I feel sorry for you that you looked so unhappy and inpatient while working in such a nice restaurant with great ambiance should be every servers top choices. I cancelled my business lunch as soon as I left the restaurant as I don’t want my business associate to experience what my friend experienced tonight.
Great food, service, and ambiance. Cannot go wrong by dining here.
Perfectly romantic and impecable service
Expensive happy hour and not very lively
Always a great dining experience at Fig & Olive!
Fig and Olive is always wonderful- a consistent pleasure of mine when I’m around Newport Beach.
We've been coming to the Newport Beach branch for years (since 2014) and it's been a slow but steady decline to be honest. My parents have been avoiding FnO for this reason, but I convinced Mom to join my wife and I.
The food is now hit or miss and relatively overpriced for what you get, particularly given the local competition.
Today was the straw that broke the camel's back, my $41 steak came in at a leathery Sizzler medium well, after a 1.5 hour wait, I returned the plate whole (a first). It's official, they've ruined all 3 of my favorites, particularly the Tajine which was watery and overcooked a few weeks back. Why the Tajine?!
To their credit they paid for this (our last) meal, but I'd rather have paid them $100 to tell me to go elsewhere. They failed to deliver what we truly came to enjoy; a good meal with great company = priceless.
It took a lot of fails to get me here, and here we are.
Sorry guys, we won't be back, it's not worth the risk :/
Beautiful decor, delicious food and great service.
We really enjoyed dinning there. Will definitely be going back!
Awesome restaurant, fantastic decor, incredible service...our waiter Shari was perfection....really made our overall experience was above and beyond our expectation. The food was superb!!!
The food, service, and ambience were all fantastic. The services provided by the professional management and staff are the main reasons that we keep coming back. The old world elegance is a rare thing, and we value their focus to make sure that everything about the dining experience is excellent. I highly recomend this restaurant.
I happen to be in Newport beach, and decided to try after referring to Opentable. It appered to be a place for OC power broking.Since this was lunch I'm not surprised.Overall ,Food and service was very good. The wide open room was quit nice.I would come back.
Was dead no one was there.
Food is not good, the service was terrible and it is very expensive.
There was a party on the patio so we had to sit inside and it was much noisier.
One of my wife’s favorite restaurants
Requested patio near fireplace
Upon arrival we were informed there was an important private party.
Food is always good, but you pay a premium
Service was especially poor
Not even a fair value.
Great food selection Great drinks
Food was good. Service was alright. Not sure exactly great but acceptable. Certainly not the place that I remember from a few years ago. Very empty even for a Wednesday. Having been to other OC places on Wednesdays this place was just not happening
Overall amazing atmosphere in the waiting staff was phenomenal
very nice setting near fashion island in Newport beach ca enjoyed the variety on the menu especially the wonderful salads i would return again
This was our third visit, and it's just as good as ever. Lovely atmosphere in the garden room, attentive service and delicious food! We shared small plates, indulged in deserts, and had fun cocktails. We can hardly wait to return!
Excellent experience. Would highly recommend for those who want a quiet, eclectic place to have a meal.
Very nice lunch! Peaceful environment, pleasant waiter and food was excellent!
Javier was a fantastic server and very gracious. Took care of us wonderfully and made our special occasion even more special.
Everything was good especially Javier our server
great evening. food was good service was good. wait staff was exellant!
It was a great experience over all, but it seemed like the waitress was too busy with too many tables to take care of.
Multiple servers approached us so it was hard to tell whom to order from. Order was repeated back incorrectly to us. The paella had to be ordered with extra shrimp to feed two people (at that price?!) and the worst part was the mussels on the paella were incinerated, beyond cooked to stringy nothingness. I placed a $50 gift card in with my bill which the waiter “forgot” to deduct from the check. Then he said he actually used the wrong table’s check for my card, then brought six slips of paper and asked for my card back to do it “correctly.” Needless to say it was a cluster. Even with the $50 off I paid $118 for a cocktail, 2 glasses of wine, a tiny plate of paella, and two handfuls of vegetables.
Everything is perfect but the price is high. I think for lunch menu prices are high.
Prompt, friendly service. Excellent food. Impeccably prepared cocktails. Pleasant decor/atmosphere.
The place is beautiful, but the food is questionable. F&O is in need of a new chef and menu. Not sure why they would send out dishes that were so ill-conceived. Surely, if they had taste tasted these items prior to adding to the menu or sending them out, they would have never served them. The beef carpaccio had the most odd of flavor combinations? I would say to keep the attempted "creative" aspect of your cuisine in check? To be honest, we did not have a main course (after the apps experience) so potentially those could fare better? Also, served us a glass of badly corked wine - and replaced if of course.
Do not waste your time and money at this establishment. it is also very $$$. An announcement of a new chef and menu could change that recommendation... We shall see...??
I made reservations for 9:15 on Sunday 9/29 and when we arrived, the doors were locked! Open Door stated that they were open until 10:00.
