FIG & OLIVE Melrose Place Ratings and Reviews
It’s just a beautiful room although not great table - too close to bathrooms and bus service station. Had I arrived first, I would’ve asked for a different table. But our out-of-town friends were seated and content.
Our waiter was lovely but the service was very slow to start. Had to wait quite a while for appetizers and bread - but after that things went smoothly. The waiter was very sweet and knowledgeable and actually gave us an extra dessert and more of one side that was woefully in adequate for four people.
The food was really delicious and the room is one of my favorites.
My friend and I came specifically for he restaraunt week specials and we were more than satisfied with our meals. The service was a little behind because there was a very demanding large party however our server held me over with a glass of champagne while I waited for my cocktail. I had the grass fed filet mignon, he had the duck breast. We also got the crostini tasting add on (worth it!). Absolutely beautiful ambiance, definitely coming back soon!
First time and disappointed with service from Reda. Unless he knows you he'll ignore your table. Waited forever to place our order. His 1 minute became 10 before he came back to us. Dinner came out and I never got my drink. Only then did he reappear and I mentioned my missing drink which came out tepid not chilled. The support staff was wonderful but he maybe needs to take heed from them on how to treat diners. I had specified on my RSVP and also when they called that we had a b'day celebration which was ignored. We all noticed Reda was very attentive to other tables yet ignored us. When I asked on desert recommendations, he gave his suggestions as he was walking away. I cannot say anything good about the food because the service was terrible.
Honestly the food was very disappointing, the only delicious plate was the dessert. The host took us all the way to the back room which is boring and dull compared to the main dining room. Two members of the staff greeted us ‘how ya’ll doing’ which was offputing considering the ambiance/vibe of the restaurant, also waiter did not look us in the eye. It was a strange experience.
The ambiance is great. Very elegant and chic. The food was absolutely awful. Over salted fish and vegetables. Could not taste the beautiful life of fish because it was so over seasoned. The Brussel sprouts were inedible. Sweet and tasteless. I was told that they were marinated in aged balsamic. Well, all we tasted was sweet sugar..:/: really awful.
I will personally not go back.
My only criticism is that I ordered a pot of tea -- $4. 50. Pricey .
The pot of tea was replaced without my asking. Another $4.50. Really, F + O, you could spring for the hot water.
Also, the check requires the patron to do math ! This is not a good idea.
The reason the patron is required to do math is that several tipping options (percentages) are offered but these are NOT pre-calculated and offered on the check as options. You have to add it up yourself using a calculator or a pen. I was an English major. You should NOT make me do math !!! The options are fine, but the varying totals should be pre-figured and presented on the check.
It was my first time dining at Fig & Olive Melrose Place... and it definitely won't be my last! The atmosphere was lovely - elegant and cozy. The service staff was friendly and attentive. Most importantly, the food was delicious. Our party of 3 started with the Chef's selection of crostinis (truffle, ibérico ham, and duck confit). We ordered the lamb, the Chilean sea bass, and the truffle risotto for our main dishes. For dessert, we shared the olive oil cake. I look forward to future meals here!
The dining room is beautiful in a Southern California way. White upholstery in the bar area is chic, and the main dining area, with its soaring high ceiling, is light filled in the day and candlelit at night.
The food is fine, nothing spectacular but the setting makes it a good spot for out of town friends or business dinners.
The wine list is respectable and the bar is usually quiet but beautiful.
Outstanding service and absolutely delicious meals. I cannot remember ever having lamb chops as succulent and flavorful. A pure delight! I wish some sound buffers were present, but such seems to be a universal issue. It certainly woukdn’t keep me from dining there again.
The prices are too high, considering the quality of food served. I ended up with a bill of $41 for a beer, a coke, a half-glass of Chardonnay, and a bottle of sparkling water. Needless to mention $253 for 4 entrees and two salads. My dish, chicken Tah-Jeen had no taste of figs and olives, even though it specifies it in the menu. When I mentioned it to the server while eating, all I heard was, "Ma'am, this is the recipe." On the contrary, it tasted quite different from the previous times. No offer of ordering a different entree was given.
Additionally, the table that was reserved for us was outside the main dining room, in the corner, and right next to a room where the servers kept coming and going, even though I had specifically mentioned that it was my husband's birthday. Upon my serious insistence and having to wait for 45 minutes, a better table in the main dining room was offered.
This was my last visit to Fig and Olive.
Wanted to try this restaurant for a very long time. Finally went for a birthday lunch. Expensive, but worth it, as the food was very good, the service professional and the lack of a crowd on a pre-Christmas weekday made the atmosphere most pleasant. The burrata and salmon tartare appetizers were excellent, as were the New Zealand lamb chops, risotto and to-die-for chocolate pot du creme dessert.
The food was great as always. Our server cut himself on the wine, dripped drops of blood on our paper menu. Basically ignored us for the entire meal. Our food was served by the runners, and the server never came back to check on anything. By the way, we had appetizers, soup, and two main courses. We had two glasses of Rose Champagne, and the LeFlaive Chardonnay. Total meal for two over $350...seems like the waiter would be interested in our table...but wrong. I will think twice about returning.
