It took an hour for my appetiser to arrive. I was dining alone and was more or less ignored by the waiting staff. The waiter seemed to be double-batting as a bartender, and referred to me as “love” When my appetiser eventually arrived, my entree arrived at the same time. The worst meal experience I’ve been had when visiting LA.
My wife and I eat out for business and date night dinners several nights a week. Fig & Olive is always an option in our consideration set. We love the environment and the location, but each time we have gone there something is off with the service and the food is just not that good or distinctive.
Interestingly enough, I proposed to my wife right outside this restaurant four years ago and we have tried to go back to it on special occasions. We had not been to the restaurant in a while, but we decided to go there last Saturday night to celebrate our fourth year anniversary.
As soon as my wife and I arrived we both asked ourselves: "Why don't we come to this restaurant more often?"
But it didn't take us that long to remember why:
It was our anniversary night, which they knew ahead about, but they sat us in the noisy bar section.
And honest to goodness nobody came by to offer us a menu or drinks for about 20 minutes.
When the waiter did come to the table, there was no apology and barely any eye contact.
I ordered the salmon, which came out greasy and was really not a good cut of fish. The appetizers were mediocre at best.
And even though it was our anniversary, after the less than stellar meal, we decided not to stick around to find out how disappointing the desserts were going to be. We had enough.
My wife and I also decided that night that we have given this restaurant enough trials and enough hall passes---at least 8 times---to realize that it is just not that good of a restaurant, particularly when you consider how many incredibly distinctive, delicious and high level of service restaurants there are in LA.
However, despite our disappointment, the restaurant appears to be doing great, which I guess is probably part of the problem. Why change when you don't have to?
But they're not getting our dollars or special occasions anymore.
The food was great! Our table was located in a not Ideal
VERY NOISY. Food was good. Service is above average. If only it can be a little more quiet, would be 5 star. Will come back another time, maybe a weekday.
Slow beverage service, food very good after server dropped part of the food at the table.
Loved the different olive oil options
Risotto was to die for.
Our server was fantastic.
We loved everything
Great food in a very nice atmosphere. A little dark for dinner needed flashlight to read the menu. However service and food extraordinary
The food was superb. So was the service. An A+ lunch!
It was really nice place to go for dinner. The food was excellent and the service was so good. It was just perfect. The only thing that bummed me out was I put on open table that we were celebrating my birthday and my wife told the hostess as well, but nothing happened. Other than that everything was great!
great food, great service and accommodating staff. Thank you fid and olive crew!
We love it! Best Paella, salads, highly recommend!
A lovely place to date night, girls night, group dinners, any excuse! All the food was delicious. The best was the pork entree, absolutely delicious! Will be back many more times. I would not bring my kids here and disrupt the ambiance.
This is my fifth time at Fig & Olive and each time a fabulous experience. I wrote on the reservation that it's for a going-away occasion and at the end of the dinner, they brought out a chocolate cake with "bon voyage" writing on the plate. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The manager made us feel special
Amazing food, very creative and perfectly seasoned. fabulous service- very attentive without overbearing. I will return!
Lovely atmosphere. And salads are feeling but won’t leave you feeling sluggish. I had the shrimp and Salmon salad
The place was simply closed already.
Excellent Place To Host Guest From Out Of Town
Love this place! Food is always delicious and the service is impeccable.
Our food was very good! Fresh and tasty! The one thing that lacked was our Bottle of Bordeaux wine was served with white wine glasses? I guess they ran out of the red? Small detail....
Dont see what the hype is. Hostess had attitude and barely managed a hello.Waiter had same disinterested look , never asked for drink order, and placed it down without a word when he brought it. Crostini app waste of time, plain white toast spread with tasteless topping. My chicken tajine a bland bowel of broth with two sad little pueces of dark meat chicken. Other dishes equallly uninspiring. Go somewhere else.
We always love coming to Fig he said, “oh it’s ok, they weren’t sharp” like a lame excuse. He should’ve immediately said “I apologize sir, are you ok? I’m so sorry!) Both my husband and I thought his response was totally tacky. They should train folks better than that!
Our server was fabulous and the wait staff were all very pleasant and professional.
Love the Fig and Olive. Food and service were outstanding. Noise level was extremely high. I wouldn't call it energetic, it was deafening. Couldn't even talk to our friends. There was a christmas party on the second level and people were actually screaming . Have been here before and don't remember it being that loud.
The food was fabulous, love the appetizers and I had the Pork, best I have ever had! .> We will be back, hopeful during a quieter evening.
Good food but too pricey (what’s new- it’s LA!) for what it is but great service!
Service was very slow. It was almost 20 minutes before they even came over to ask for my drink order. Food was mediocre at best. Chicken is as dry as cardboard. Lobster was tasteless. $26 for a tequila? At these prices service and food should be much better
Everything was good except for the high decibel noise level
We had a superb, flavorful meal in a lovely, warm setting. The menu options were so mouth-watering, it was hard to choose. The complimentary olive oil sampling to start the meal was divine. The bread alone that came with it was amazing! We ordered the crostini appetizer with three options, and each was delicious. My favorite was the one with manchego cheese and fig spread, but the smoked salmon and craime fraiche was also incredible. My boyfriend adored his chicken tajine, which was full of flavor and light spices. He would have licked the plate if he could have. I got the paella, which was comforting and bursting with various types of seafood. I was worried it would be a giant dish, but it was just the right size. I would definitely get it again. For dessert, we shared the chocolate obsession cake, which was infinitely rich and smooth with a bright spot of raspberry here and there.
The environment was energetic and serene all at once, full of warmth and gold-tinged lighting. Our waiter was very attentive and the busboys cleared the plates at just the right moment. This is a wonderful place to go for a nice dinner out or a special occasion. Highly recommend!
Nice setting and design, but the food leaves much to be desired. Dishes were not all that flavorful, though nicely presented. I could have cooked the dishes at home with ease, and at a fraction of the price.
Overall it’s our favorite place on the West side!
Expensive! But very good food a
and service. A bit noisy in the dining room but the decor is top notch.
The only complaint is that the term Mediterranean fries is misleading.
I went here with my wife for our first date since our daughter was born and we were both very disappointed. We started out with the charcuterie board. It was very basic and mediocre. Next was the fig & olive salad which was also mediocre. For the main course we had the lamb and the duck breast (both ordered medium rare). The duck breast was overcooked, tough, and bland. The lamb was cooked well but also very bland. Additionally, the food came out extremely slowly. Overall we were both very disappointed with the restaurant and in awe of how they manage to stay in business. Top this off with the fact that the meal was around $200 (with no alcohol), suffice it to say we will never go back.
Wonderful as always.
There were not enough servers and there was a special event there that relegated other guests to one room. The room was very cold and they were reluctant to turn it off. One of party ordered soup that was not hot and when they brought another one, it was also not hot.
Great service and wonderful lunch!
The food was actually awful. We got a pasta dish, it was super basic, absolutely nothing special. Trader Joe's has better pasta in their freezer section. The yellowtail tuna was tasteless, my neighborhood poke place has better yellowtail. Lastly, we got the New York steak "medium well", but it came out as bloody as ever. Literally a pool of blood on my plate. And I wouldn't mind a medium or medium rare steak, but this was COLD, raw, and the taste was disgusting. The potatoes on the plate were also ice cold. Fig and olive should be embarrassed of the food they serve to their patrons. Never going back. Biggest waste of money and time I'll never get back.
Saturday night, it was extremely busy and they were behind and we waited at the bar for 10-15 minutes before we were seated for a party of 2. There was a live DJ and at first I felt like I was walking into a party, but it was nice and the ambiance was perfect. Service seemed a little slow at first, but we were timely helped by men in suits who appeared to be managers. They took our drink, appetizers, and entrée orders. Our appetizers and main courses came out pretty fast for as busy as they were. The managers and eventually wait staff were very attentive. Overall, the food, ambiance, venue, and service was excellent. Definitely would go back again!
