FIG & OLIVE Fifth Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Packed in with no room to breathe and the temperature was extremely warm. Very noisy, tables close together...2 people can’t walk at the same time...only room for one person to walk at a time. Food was very good but it was tough to hear the waiter because of packed noisy crowd. Not the best experience, especially for the price. They charged $39 for Chilean Sea Bass and I had to request binoculars to find it.
We needed a place to accommodate 4 couples having a fun dinner in the city. Gig & Olive met our expectations in every way from being seating us at a round table ( so much better for a group) to answering our request to be seated upstairs ( away from the. At scene). Our waiter Daniel was convivial & funny w/o being obtrusive and we appreciated his knowledge about the food. The food offered a great deal of variety for a large group and was delicious! I know we'll be back often!
Very busy when we arrived and appetizers came very quickly. When we told our waiter we were in no rush, the pace slowed down considerably and it turned out to be a very relaxed and enjoyable evening. Food was especially creative and delicious. Would certainly go back but my advice would be to let the server know you are there for a dining experience and not just to eat
We were in New York for a visit w another couple. our wait was longer than expected and they were so apologetic and gave us an upstairs table w two free appetizers! Our waiter was so attentive and gave us a recommendation for a speak easy bar after dinner. We will be back! Your wine list really good as well as the food!
We booked a table through open table about two weeks prior to coming. Upon arrival we were seated upstairs in the back right next to the kitchen and area where servers get the food. It was extremely hot, there were numerous tables with small children and it was tight. We asked to be moved out of this area and were told this was impossible unless we wanted to wait a half hour to an hour. As we had a reservation for a show this was not an option. They did move us over a bit so we were not right in the center of the area. The food was good. But it was so hot and generally uncomfortable it was a bit hard to really enjoy. When we finished and walked downstairs it had to have been at least 10 degrees cooler. It could have been a good experience but unfortunately it wasn’t.
Food was delicious and the waiter was great, but the pace was too frenetic! Appetizers were out before we got a sip of our drinks. Entrees were out before we finished our appetizers. I’ve spent more time lingering in McDonalds. Sadly not the fine dining experience we were looking for. But the food was terrific!
Signature Crostini were just OK.. toppings great but crostini themselves were just ok.. found service a little machine-like. Saying the right words but on to the next table. Too many different servers. Salad portions too large as a salad with the meal. Paella was excellent but portion was a bit small. If no appy or salad would have left hungry. Signature cocktails were more ice than cocktail.
The restaurant was packed and we were kind of in the way as they fit 5 people at a table of 4 in a super awkward shape. The food made up for the seating. Everything was delicious. They surprised us with a candled desert for my mom's birthday. We had ordered 3 deserts and they not only brought all 3 (so a total of 4) but they charged us for the surprise desert. Was a little dissapointed. At least tell us not to order 3 since you've already ordered one for us...
I ordered the duck breast. Duck should be prepared mid-rare. The first time the duck came to the table it was mid-rare yet the fat was not rendered. It was still cold, and solid white. I asked them to redo another piece of duck breast, not just reheat. They did. The second duck breast was served medium-well and again the fat was not rendered.
Fig & Olive is a bright, sunny, relatively quiet, clean modern lunch spot with very good food and atmosphere. Ours was a business lunch, and I saw both business and personal lunches scattered about. The restaurant has a happy mood, and the service is excellent. Everyone there has a great attitude. The menu is quite nice, and they include some unusual non-alcoholic beverages - also perfect for a business lunch. The last two large business lunches I hosted there, our guests very much enjoyed themselves. The seating is always comfortable, and your table is typically not jammed up against someone else's, so you can have relatively private conversations. I would definitely recommend it, especially if your office is in the area.
Booked online so we were disappointed to be shown a table next to the noisy kitchen when there were plenty of other tables free. Complained and were moved to a very good table in the centre of the restaurant. Food was good but not exceptional, service very attentive, ambience busy, decor attractive. For UK visitors expect similar to Cote.
I wish I could remember the name of our waiter because he was absolutely amazing! I went to Fig and Olive for Happy Hour with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law before seeing a show on Broadway. He noticed that we were tourists right away...my SIL and I both ordered a glass of wine to start while my MIL ordered a beer. Our waiter was raving about the cocktails and seemed disappointed when we didn’t order one. To our surprise, he brought out two signature cocktails for free for us to try. For food, we ordered 3 crostini each (so good!). Our waiter then brought out an appetizer for us to try...and for the finale, he brought out two desserts and three glasses of champagne for us to kick off our girls weekend!
Can not recommend enough!!
Our server was fantastic and when he heard we were there to celebrate my friends engagement, he surprised us with champagne which was very sweet. Unfortunately the restaurant was over crowded and we waited nearly 20 mins to get seated for our 1pm reservation. But food was delicious as always.
