FIG & OLIVE Fifth Avenue Ratings and Reviews
Ate at the east midtown location at lunchtime, so the place was packed and very noisy. We were seated upstairs, which was unbearably hot and crowded.
Food and service were very good overall, though we were at first served someone else's lunch. Things were a little out of control. They did offer a few gluten-free options, for which I was grateful.
However, not the place to have a conversation of any type...just eat and run. Way too loud.
Fig & Olive in LA is seasonal, fresh ingredient driven and vibrantly flavored. Unfortunately, their midtown NYC outpost is a tourist trap where seemingly sophisticated ambiance is meant ti compensate for criminally over-dressed salads, sodden condiments and olive oil that tasted almost of lead. With tables too close together, conversation is tricky over the din... and most disappointing of all, my reservation noted that the meal was a business meeting, yet they felt fine putting myself and a writer for NEWSDAY at a tiny table in the middle of a very active traffic flow.
When you're serving the tourist trade, repeat business is not important. So perhaps that explains service that was attentive, then not around. Rushed, but not always there when needed. Perhaps more a function of being packed, because the waiter could not have been nicer.
Pricey for what it is, there are better options.
Great meal again. The manager ensured a quiet corner table, even with a company holiday party in the dining room. MIchael was our server and he made great recommendations and paced the meal well. The restaurant obviously looks at and pays attention to special notes in OpenTable as they brought my wife a tasty dessert with a birthday candle at the end of the meal. It's a very nice restaurant for any occasion as well as special occasions. We'll be back.
To be honest, we were disappointed with this dining experience. We had dined at the Fig and Olive on Lexington during our last visit to NYC two years ago and had been very impressed with the service and the food. The server was quite attentive and helpful, and really made us feel special. This was not the case at this location, where we felt rather overlooked amid the hustle and bustle. On both occasions we were celebrating my birthday. The first time they acknowledged the special occasion with a free dessert. This time around however there was no acknowledgement even though the reservation booking service asked if a special occasion was being celebrated and I indicated it was a birthday celebration. Why bother asking one to indicate a special occasion if the restaurant isn’t going to acknowledge it in any way? The food was good but not outstanding. I would still recommend it for a casual meal but not for a special occasion.
Not the experience we hoped for after reading the hype. Booked for a 60th birthday celebration which wasn't even acknowledged. Waiter was impatient and rude and food barely warm. A prawn on the crostini smelt off and the waiter just shrugged it off with no offer of another dish .
Absolutely outstanding, we enjoyed every bite. And unlike us we drank an entire bottle of wine without being rushed by the staff. The service was wonderful, our waitress very knowledgeable and the food was awesome. We've added Fig & Olive to our favorites list!
The DC location is preferred for atmosphere but menu, food, execution is wonderful here as well. We were seated upstairs so the decor not as nice. Noise level very high and tables crowded particularly rough with winter coats, holiday bags etc. the food and service made it still a very good meal.
This restaurant never fails. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Three of us availed of the lunch prix fixe. Good value and very generous. The ala carte chicken salad was a lot and could be shared.
Service was excellent inspite of the crowd. A bit noisy but it was very busy that day.
Had a most delightful lunch with friends. Seated immedialtely, had a wonderful round table for 6..great for conversation. Food was terrific..had prix fix lunch..great value. Service was exceptional. Would definitely reccommend for a fabulous lunch in midtown
