Fifty-Six Union is celebrating 22 years of year-round service on the Nantucket Dining Trail. Intimate Dining Rooms, Outdoor Patio & Garden Oasis, full bar, and an incredible wine list. Dinner is served nightly at 5:00 PM, offering Peter’s House Specialties that include the best Curried Mussels in the World!
Peter is a ’78 graduate of The Culinary Institute of America. He came to Nantucket in 1979 and has worked in some of the top restaurants on the Island. In the year 2000, he and his wife, Wendy, opened Fifty-Six Union.
Peter’s Global Cuisine changes seasonally, using fresh, local ingredients. Wendy’s 100 bottle wine list includes the ‘top guns’ as well as the unique ‘little gems’. They now serve their own Private Label Pinot Noir by the glass, produced and bottled by Steele Wines, called Veronica’s Private Reserve.

This was my wife's and I go-to restaurant for our anniversary for years. Brought the family there a number of times, as well as friends when they came to visit the island. The food is amazing. A nice selection of starters, main courses, and desserts for everyone to order something they would like. The service to top notch. The staff is friendly and engaging. Many are locals who can talk about the island with someone who wants a bit of insight. Has both indoor and outdoor seating. We are very sorry that after all these years they are closing. We feel very fortunate to be able to have eaten there over the years and to get to know the owners - who are super nice people! To Peter and Wendy Jannelle, and their family, thank you for the great meals and conversations. Good luck in all your future endeavors!

We always try to dine at 56 Union every time we visit Nantucket. Our experience last evening was outstanding. The food and service were outstanding. As we understand, the current family that owns and operates the restaurant have decided to retire at the end of this week. Their restaurant will be missed in the coming years. We wish the family happiness and health and an enjoyable retirement.

We had a great (and sadly, final) dinner at 56 Union: the food was great (portions were especially generous); our server, Evan, was terrific; the atmosphere was great - fun and lively without being too loud for conversation. We really will miss 56!

Going out of business and it showed. Owners and staff catered to people they knew and were rude to everyone else. Food and atmosphere were good.

Fifty Six Union Street has been one of the best restaurants on Nantucket for many years. The food is outstanding and worth the price. The service is also excellent, and each seating area offers a different type of ambiance, all enjoyable. Sadly they are closing their doors soon. Their consistently delicious fare will be sorely missed!
