Fenicci's of Hershey Ratings and Reviews
First time visit while in Hershey. My wife and i have the same birthday usually go to a local to us Italian restaurant. However this year we were travelling and I booked Fenicci's based on the menu and reviews here.
It was VERY busy night, yet we were taken to our table right on time for 7:30. We heard them tell those without a reservation that the wait was at least an hour, so they were VERY busy.
Our drink and food orders were taken quickly and it was obvious that the waitress was working hard. I had the meatball appetizer (order by the number you want) with their homemade marinara sauce and it was obvious that they are home made; the meat seemed denser and the sauce delicious.
I also recommend the veal parm. BUT, in a first for me, they list fresh and patty. ORDER THE FRESH! It was as good as any I've had. A large, thin veal , crisp breading, melted provolone and the same marinara. A side of spaghetti and it was all delish! Came with a house salad and their homemade Italian dressing, served in a bottle that you need shake. Seeing the amount of salad, I could have done without the meatball app, but I'm glad I had the meatballs too.
Room had a moderate noise level but I think that was mostly due to the number of people and a group of 20 came in about halfway through our meal. Still, we were easily able to talk without raised voices.
Overall, given how busy it was, I thought the overall experience was wonderful, particularly for a restaurant in a new place and that we really knew nothing about and booked on advice here. It doesn't look like much from the outside and inside is dated, but the food is well worth it.
Make reservations EARLY! Fried calamari is an absolute must. Seafood risotto was excellent. Pappardelle was so delicious. Service was friendly and considerate which is important when dining out with children. I overheard another family discussing certain food allergies and the wait staff brought out a chef to make sure no allergens were in the meals ordered. The menu is broad enough to please everybody. We were greeted coming in, during our meal, and again when leaving. The service and food were what you might expect (but rarely get) from a much more expensive restaurant. This is our new favorite family restaurant in Hershey!!!!!!
This was our second trip to Fenicci's while visiting Hershey, Pa. The restaurant is conveniently located across from the Hershey Museum and you can walk after your tour. Everyone here is so friendly and the food is amazing. They give you a lot of delicious home-made food for the money, and we took half of ours home for the next day. We will visit Fenicci's everytime we visit Chocolate Town....worth the drive!!
I cannot say enough how wonderful the food and the service is here. The staff is friendly and helpful when trying to decide on what to order. I had the special that was scallops in a white cream sauce, my husband had the veal parm. There are always left overs. They were both excellent. We will be back again and again.
This is a restaurant I've frequently my entire life of 71 years. Even though ownership has changed, the standard of excellent food, service and ambiance remains. This can be a casual, quick meal, or a relaxed meal for a couple's celebration of birthdays, an anniversary or other event. It's hard to beat their great food and reasonable pricing. Terrific!
Ellie and Bob Hanna started eating at Fenicci's late 90s. We call Fenicci's our kitchen. We have eaten as much as weekly. That equals 100s of meals. I have also gone diving with Phil. In addition to the remarkable specials, they make good Manhattans., Fra Diable (Saturday night).
I bring all my in town clients to dinner there. We usually have a dinner party after Derry Pres Church annual choir concert. Great place with something on the menu for everybody
Overall good experience. Shrimp scampi was very good as were the double crab cakes. The chicken parm was over cooked.
For appetizers, we had the fried calamari which were tasty. The “famous” meatballs were nothing special..the meat was packed to the point they were too tough.
Nice serving of salad for the table and a good bar selection.
Staff was young but attentive.
After reading wonderful reviews we were totally underwhelmed. Wait staff seemed disorganized. We were asked upon being seated if we were atending a preformance at the Hershey Theater and if so we needed to order promptly. One would think arriving for dinner2 hours prior to a preformance would be suffient time to dine. The descriptions of the menu items were accurate however the preparation did not hold up to the description. Either an ingredient totally over powered the dish ( wild mushroom sautee was over powered by the Prosciutto) or the ingredient was not noticable ( Pesto Seafood Risotto had no pesto / basil flavor, and the pappardelle ragu lacked any meat flavor other then ground beef). Would I return is a good question may be if i was interested in a pizza or sandwich and could not find a pizza shop in the area. For a special occasion definetly not, I would walk across the street to Devon steak and seafood.
We were at Fenicci’s Saturday night with friends for my wife’s birthday. Our server, Alexis, was outstanding. She was fun and attentive without being overbearing. The food was fantastic, as it always is. Our friend was raving about how good the crab cakes were. My youngest loved her fettuccini and our oldest girl thought her penne ala vodka was “awesome”. My wife enjoyed her birthday dinner immensely. My only regret is that I was defeated once again in my quest to finish the lasagna. Next time I will try to cut down on the appetizers!
Went to Feniccis prior to a show at the Theater - gave us 2.5 hours to eat and hang out before the show. We ordered appetizers and food within 10 minutes of sitting down - but our food took 1.5 hours to arrive. One of the appetizers came out after our food had arrived. The food was very good, but was surprised that no manager acknowledged the issue. Our server did the best she good, but I think even she got uncomfortable coming back to our table. I would still go back because the food was good but would be worried to go if there is a time constraint.
Our experience on Saturday was wonderful. The Penn State/Michigan State game was on, so the bar was a bit noisy, but we were watching the game as well. The bruschetta was outstanding, so fresh with local tomatoes! Our meals were amazing and our waiter was awesome! We will definitely be back!
We were at this restaurant on Christmas Eve last year and the food and the ambiance was much better. We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the table (stain on table cloth of pasta sauce when we sat down) as well as the food was sub-par. The pasta was over cooked and the marinara sauce was bland.
This is a classic Italian eatery with modern touches. They have been here for over 80 years and are not part of any chain or corporate group. It's a spot locals come to for family events, before theater, after kids sports team victories, first dates, parents' night out and take-out pizza. I have eaten here off and on for the last 30+ years. Never had a problem with food quality or poor service, even when they were very busy. In all those years I recall one problem with computing my bill, but it was taken care of as soon as I pointed it out. Because everyone eats here on the weekend evenings the noise level can be high.
If you are a small party and want quiet, get a booth in the bar.
If you need comfort, get a bowl of the Italian Wedding Soup.
If you can't face going out, they will prepare anything on the menu for take-out and they will bring it out to your car when you pull into the lot off the alley behind the restaurant.
If you want a great steak at 1 in the morning, this is your place.
My cousin and I ate dinner here last Friday night. We both had Italian wedding soup. I had Pappardelle with meat sauce and my cousin had a crab cake. Everything came quickly, was tasty and hot. I ordered a side from the appetizer menu with my pasta. Our server, Marissa, handled that with no confusion or delay. The exotic mushroom saute appetizer ought to be a main course all by itself, it is so good. I took the last couple of spoonfuls home and enjoyed it for breakfast the next morning on the leftover brioche toast.
Well this will the last time at this restaurant. They sat us in a great place till a large party came with unruly kids. The kids began to screaming while the parents drank and gossiped, not once quieting their brood. Several people complained & asked to be moved while the management did nothing. The hostess proceeded to tell us well we are a family friendly restaurant but many were not happy or impressed.
We chose this restaurant since we had out of town visitors. My husband and I must eat gluten- free, although our friends had no dietary restrictions. I had planned on ordering a pizza and splitting it with my husband. But the waitress told us that although the pizza dough was gluten-free, she said the only topping we could get was the marinara sauce and cheese. I asked about bacon or chicken or spinach (I can't remember the various toppings) and she said they may have touched items with gluten in them, so all we could get was a plain pizza. So, we ordered the chicken parmesan. The gluten-free pasta was good, but again, the only choice of sauce was marinara and that was extremely watery. I guess the pasta hadn't been thoroughly drained. Our only gluten-free choice of salad dressing was oil and vinegar. This was served in a cruet, but no matter how much we shook the bottle, the oil and vinegar did not blend. My husband got a salad coated in vinegar - not very pleasant.
Our friends seemed to enjoy what they ordered (with gluten) and before we went gluten-free, we had always enjoyed our meals at Fenicci's. But for gluten-free, we have other choices for Italian food in Hershey that offer much more variety (appetizers, entrees, salads, desserts), so we will undoubtedly be heading to the other restaurants nearby.
The food is very average. Also, most dishes are in a cream or alfredo sauce, even when they don't need to be. I had chicken Saltamboca. The chicken was good, but the sauce was way too heavy for the dish. It is normally served in a much lighter sauce. Cheese, cream and repeat. That seems to be what they think people want.
The meat tasted like it was reheated and it was hard also the temperature was lukewarm the pasta was also lukewarm but the sauce was hot. I went to this restaurant thinking it was fine Italian dining and I could have had a better meal from Chef Boyardee complete waste of time and money and it was very expensive for the poor quality of meal. Tourist be aware this is the last place you want to spend your hard earned money
Solid experience for a birthday celebration. Food was good; pasta fresh and seafood platter was really good. Service was weak; we even arrived at 5 before the early crowd; marked on the Open Table reservation was a birthday ; server did not recognize the event. From order to service, was a slow and a bit unresponsive.
We were at Hershey for the Hershey Half Marathon. Wanted to find a nice Italian restaurant for the night before the race. Finicci's had great food, great service, and very reasonable prices. When we got back to Hershey my daughter said we have to go back here!
