Food wasn't very good and took 10 minutes for the waitress to come after I sat down. Very loud and not really that great of a place.

I've been to Federal Taphouse a few times now, each time has been pretty good. I almost always get calamari as an app, which I did again, and yup it was just as good as always. For entree this time, I got the Bleu Belly Burger (burger with pork belly on it) - it was really good, with the bleu cheese and the burger was cooked well- however, I ended up taking some of the pork belly off because it was so fatty and chewy (the fatty parts were not crispy, unfortunately). I got the duck confit fries on the side, they are so amazing every single time! Highly recommend them. My friend and I got a few drinks, he tried some beers and I just got a cider mule and a pear hard cider. Both were good, I get the mule pretty much every time. This restaurant has some really cool menu items and overall great food

Great beer list but food is no comparison to HVB. Fish tacos come with 8 tortilla chips. Fish inside was cold in some parts. Was really hopeful but disappointed.

The food was mediocre other than the fried calamari. Fish tacos were bland the ribs were horrible could find better pre made rib in the grocery store

The beer selection is expansive.

I took my daughter and her boyfriend to the Federal Tap House. The food and overall experience was excellent. The service was prompt and attentive. I got the pasta carbonara with chicken, my daughter has a caesar salad, and her boyfriend had a burger. It was early - around 4:30 on a non-football weekend so it was not super busy. Overall, we had a lovely meal with wonderful hip, casual and comfortable atmosphere. I hope to return.

I was in town for a conference and used my evening to see my daughter at school. She invited two friends along, and we had a very nice meal. Our server was amazing! Attentive, but not intrusive. Extremely friendly, with a great smile. Our food was very good, typical bar fare, but I enjoyed a wonderful Caesar salad with shrimp, quite tasty. The students appreciated a night away from "dorm food" and seemed to enjoy each of their entrees. One of my guests wanted her burger "well done" and there was some red still to it (she really wanted it WELL done), but that was a minor issue as it still tasted very good to her. Very generous portions - everyone took a to-go box home.

Restaurant ran out of many food simple items (like French fries) because if a busy football game the day before. We visited at 5:45. Surely there is a store nearby to improvise a creative menu for 1 day. Running out of food should not happen. Bar staff were friendly, but new and inexperienced. Small crowd and still had to wait

Complete nightmare. I eat at the other three locations regularly and it’s always good. I’d talked up the duck fat fries and pizzas to my husband and we were going to order both. We arrive and are told at the door that they had no fries and no pizzas because they were busy this weekend (yeah, there was a home football game on Saturday and a sold out Elton John concert on Sunday - could you not have predicted you’d be busy?). We should have followed our instincts and turned around and left at that point as they were serving a “limited menu” with less than half of what they would usually be offering. We ordered the hummus appetizer... nope, they were out of that. Husband ordered the fish tacos... the fish sandwich was what was delivered to the table. I offered the arugula salad with a crab cake... it came out without the goat cheese, which was the entire reason I’d ordered it, but they were out of that too (had I known that, I’d have ordered something different). We got a 20% discount on our order, but we still
paid over $70 after tip for a meal that wasn’t at all what we wanted, took forever to get, and was okay at best.

They didn't have any of their duck entrees/sides available! Really a shame because I was looking forward to having the duck confit fries. Anyways, the food was good as always. We ended up getting pretzels, calamari, and aioli fries. They were all very good -- calamari was a little greasier than usual tho. The homemade aioli is bomb. For a meal I got the french dip which was pretty good. Ended up taking half home. Our waitress was really slow but it was also busy night

The Federal Taphouse took online reservations which was a great option for a very busy move in weekend at Penn State. The food was very good. However, the kitchen became very overwhelmed and backed up. I understand the increased demand, but feel that a college town restaurant should be able to rise to the occasion during busy weekends (move in, parents' weekend, more popular football games, etc). Our drinks and appetizers did come quickly. Then salads and meals arrived about 45 minutes later and all at once. Our waiter was apologetic for the kitchen being so slow.

I had heard good things about the restaurant but we had a terrible meal. The food was so salty it was inedible. The crab corn appetizer and calamari were difficult to eat. Even the salad dressings had little flavor. Given their extensive beer list (which was impressive), maybe the salty food was to lure you to drink more. Disappointing all around.

My best friend and I had a fantastic dinner here. The drinks were good the cabbage tacos fries and wings were amazing as well. I would recommend!!

The back window is great to look over the street, however in the summer the glaring sun made for an uncomfortable dining experience. I could not even see our friends sitting across the table. You would be best served to get a shade that could take the edge off during that time of year.

We eat here frequently and the service, is so so. Honestly, service is better when they have more people. They seated us promptly, but we waited so long to even place a drink order, I had to phone the hostess stand from our table to ask if we had a waiter / waitress. Host thought it was funny that I phoned, and it is now, but when waiting for 15 minutes just to see a waiter, it is not.
Waiter was okay, but since the restaurant was so empty, we didn't see anyone often. We could hear the staff behind the wall, in seats closer to the kitchen laughing and talking, but not much movement. Food was fine, but the service needs to step it up.

Another good time.

I hate to add a negative, as we've never had occasion to do so, but this time we did. On our last visit I had a draft from Nickel Brook Brewery in Ontario called "Ceres Lime Cucumber Gose". I asked our server, Tiana, who by the way is a gem, if they had this particular brew. She checked with the manager and told me they did. She brought a 375ml bottle to the table and served it. It was as good in bottle as I recall on draft. But, when the bill was presented, I was taken aback by the cost of this bottle: $16! I wasn't told the cost upon ordering, so I assumed it would be within reason of the other selections available. I wouldn't have ordered this brew if I knew the cost, but saw no alternative but to pay and remember to always ask the price from now on if it isn't shown.

We made reservations because there are times that the restaurant is so popular that it is difficult to get a seat. We made reservations this time because we had an anniversary, our fifth. We arrived and were seated I ordered fish and my wife ordered salad. The fish and chips was bland unfortunately and I was disappointed. Hopefully they will fix that in the future. The service was incredible and the ambience was also the same. The bill at the end was acceptable.

Eric our waiter had a trainee w him. They didn’t even bring the meal he ordered. He ordered a French dip and fish and chips arrived. He had to wait and we at the table were about finished eating by the time his correct meal arrived. I asked for a cessation w. balsamic dressing and Caesar dressing arrived on my salad. I thought they comp one of his beers but nothing. Very poor service.

Federal Taphouse is a refreshing and delightful treat in a town overrun with mediocre restaurants and bar. They have a phenomenal beer list (100 on tap) with dozens of beers you can't find anywhere else. Even if you aren't into beer, they have a great cocktail list and plenty of wine options. The service was outstanding, and the food was absolutely delicious! I would highly recommend this place for just about any occasion! I can't wait to go back and experience some more!!

A little pricey for style of food, but our table ot 4 all enjoyed our meals. First time going--- we'll go back sometime but not necessarily monthly like we do some other places. Enjoyable.

In town for a business meeting and was pleasantly surprised by this place. It was not super busy in the afternoon so it was a perfect time to sit at the bar to get work done. Food and service were very good.

Great place to eat! Food was delicious, service was phenomenal, and the selection of beers on tap was very impressive. They also have a very unique ambiance with really nice views of downtown. I highly recommend.

It was pretty quiet Sunday night and sat right down. Service was prompt. Ordered app of calamari and it was a bit undercooked and caused a bit of concern with our table after we ate a couple pieces. We told the waiter but not taken off the tab, instead were offered dessert? Oh well. The food is good for sure and lots of brews to choose from. Nice sunsets views for sure.

Overall, the State College Federal Tap House is a very enjoyable experience with a lot of good beer and mostly high-end types of bar foods (cauliflower tacos, fancy burgers, etc.). I’ve been here several times and it’s a good size restaurant (which is hard to find in State College) with good food. I did get a little annoyed by several upcharges during this visit which I think should be disclosed by the server. Neither were much and I didn’t complain but a little annoying when the $120 bill comes. $2 for some red sauce for a. White pizza and a charge for sauce for fish tacos? Really? Very good overall and I’ll ask next time before ordering anything extra.

The Taphouse is such a lovely environment and the wait staff and hostesses could not be nicer. We went for lunch--my friend's lunch looked tasty (fish and chips); I ordered the black bean burger which tasted good but is a really sloppy sandwich. Definitely use a knife-and-fork.

Fun Trendy restaurant in State College above Target and attached to the Hyatt. Brick oven pizzas. Interesting variety for the foodie but comfort food for the less exploratory eater. This was our third visit and everything has been good. Looking forward to going back. Huge beer selection!

Stuffed us in a high top next to a standing party that was arguably over fire codes on a date while there were open tables. Refused to seat at the open tables despite having a reservation until we called their boss over. Kinda made it a whole ordeal.

Made reservations for Easter and didnt realize it'd be buffet only. Also, unfortunately Spotluck wasn't working either so we had to pay $25 per person. It was pretty good food, but a bit overpriced especially a small mamosa costing $9

Disappointed. Waited almost 10 minutes and finally had to flag down someone to get service. Out of first two beers I ordered off menu. Crab dip was super salty and we didn’t even take second helping. Entrees came 3 minutes after appetizers. Salmon entree and pork belly tacos were both good but I doubt we will go back. Then they failed to register our reservation on Open Table so had to send an email to get credit. Overall very unimpressed.
