We went there for Valentine's Day and it was empty. Should have been our first clue. Waitress was very attentive but being in the lobby with so few tables filled was kind of depressing. Ordered chicken kebabs that were dry. No gluten-free dessert options for my husband. We've been to Faz in Danville and SJ and loved it so this was a disappointment.
Waitress inpatient upon our arrival since she was off in 10 min. Menu boring. Kitchen closed shortly after arrival. I had pizza which was ok, person with me had kebobs and they looked and tasted like processed meat. Saving grace was bartender who closed us out. Sweet and personable. Should be manager.
The service was somewhat friendly, but not attentive. The server never checked back after delivering our food nor did she refresh our water glasses.
The food was just okay. My salad with shrimp and avocado was good. My friend had the capellini where the pasta was over cooked and drowned in red sauce. She left much of it untouched.
The restaurant was packed this time! good! We were seated promptly and the servers were attentive with water and iced tea refills. we asked for and received the house made potato chips along with the flatbread that was delivered to the table quickly. I had the chicken cobb and it was fantastic. the chicken was tasty and it was NOT overcooked. My friend had the teriyaki mahimahi which was terrific. Another friend had the hamburger and French fries; the hamburger was too rare for her liking but she still ate most of it, and then we had mango sorbert for dessert. the sorbet was so good and it was the perfect end to our lunch.
Delicious filet mignon kabob, great seafood specials (salmon dinner and a mahi mahi dinner), all flavorful and cooked just right. Nice size wine list, small dessert menu, too. Comfortable booth seating, cozy setting. Good location, just across the street from City Center (12th Street) Bart in Oakland. Friendly, helpful service and good value a plus. All in all, I recommend Faz!
Stale pita bread appetizer was a hint of things to come.I had the steak kabob and another in our party had the chicken kabob. We both remarked that while they were cooked properly, they were utterly tasteless. No marinade, no seasoning. Nothing. Not even salt. Seldom have I experienced something so unusual as a completely unseasoned meal in a restaurant. Weird.
I go with friends on many Friday eves before the Oakland symphony. This is excellent Persian food with a great sharing platter that includes baba ganoush, hummus, olives and other delectables. Entrees include kabobs and roasted chicken that are tasty. And the homemade potato chips that come with any meal and are replenishable are a great bonus.

i was here twice in the same week. The food was good both times. The second time I had just the calamari which was served with a harissa sauce that was perfect with the octopus.. The first time, I had the mixed kabob - also well cooked and tasty. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We received menus but no wine, beer or cocktail list (happened on both visits). Both times we had to work at paying.
Nonetheless, the dining room is comfortable and not noisy. The prices are reasonable and the food is good.
Appetizers were all very good, but the entrees were a little disappointing. They ran out of one of them (which we had ordered two of - so two disappointed), then the steak actually tasted "off" - the chicken kebab was OK as was the lamb shank. We skipped dessert as a result. The service, however, was good.
I used to eat at FAZ in San Francisco YEARS ago, like 20 years ago! The food was always good there and I'm happy to say that the FAZ in Oakland has great food! I ordered the Chicken Cobb and it was very tasty; fresh greens and the chicken was moist, not overcooked. The avocado was fresh and the dressing was just right! My friend had the scallops with fettucini and she enjoyed it! the only issue I had was with the pita bread that was brought to the table. It was brought promptly, which is great, but the bread was dry, like it was old or overbaked? But the salad and fettucini plates were so filling that we didn't want to eat any more of the pita bread, so it worked out OK for us!
Last Friday, we entertained an out-of-town family member for dinner. We chose Faz because we'd had great experiences over the past year, including having our daughter's college graduation reception there......that was simply amazing. On Friday, true to form, we had great drinks, wonderful food, attentive service, and an overall good time.
I don't know for sure, but I think that many people are missing this awesome restaurant. Try it and be impressed.
The food was very good and service great. My only complaint is that there just wasn't enough food and I don't eat that much at lunch time. I had the shrimp kabob and it was very tasty but came with 4 shrimp and two small pieces of broccolini with the basmati rice. I was hungry an hour later.
Wzas quiet for a Friday night but we were on the early side. Food was great, the service was Ok. Only 2 tables but waiter seemed to be a bit behind in everything. Pleasant but just not as timely as he should with so few tables to wait on, unless he was also doing something behind the bar which we could not see. Great food.
This Persian restaurant is a must if you're near the City Center of Oakland. It's across the street from the Oakland Marriott. The menu invites tasting. As I'm a light dinner-eater, I had a spare meal, but the chief component, Mast o Musir, was a delight. It's basically yogurt and garlic, and - although a "starter" - was quite adequate for my light dining needs.
There is a full bar, and my martini was A-1. Service was helpful and amiable.
Salmon was overcooked beyond words. The chef was clearly not paying attention. It happens, but then cook me a fresh fillet, don't serve me a leather puck. Service was horrible, over and over we had to hunt for our waiter. Loved FAZ before, I'll think twice about going back ever.
My friends and I came here to try out Faz as we have never been here before. The entrance is located right on 11th Street between Broadway and Clay and there's a beautiful fountain and grass area located in front of it. Walking into the restaurant was lovely and we were seated near the window.
Our server Milad was very attentive and prompt. He brought over some pita bread and a sauce to go with it and we started with the fried calamari which had artichokes and chick peas as well. I had a ginger beer and my friends had the pomegranate lemonade.
We ordered the avocado and prawn salad, spicy gulf shrimp kabob and scallop fettuccine. For dessert we had the dessert combo but they did not have the Persian cookies so our server substituted red velvet cake so essentially, we had red velvet cake, Neapolitan, chocolate ganache, and some kind of cake with coffee. Service was excellent and food was tasty. The desserts were A-ok, and just right since we just wanted a taste of dessert as we were already full from our appetizer and entrees.
I really enjoyed my grilled avocado and prawn salad which was tasty and plentiful!
The food was amazing but they were very understaffed. We were there for a conference across the street and I noticed 5 groups had also made reservations at the same time through this app. We arrived for our reservation and they had set up group seating in the atrium. The baryender instructed us to seat ourselves. After 20 minutes we had to go get our own menus and ask if they could please come get our orders, as we had just an hour before we had to be back for our next meeting. Also, while we were waiting another group came an sat in the main area and ordered all the specials so they ran out by the time the waiter finally came to take our order. The bartender ended up taking care of our table and was apologetic for their delays due to short staff. We were late for our meeting ultimately, due to delays... if I go back, it would be with a smaller group (we had 8) and sit inside, not in the atrium. The food was worth it.
The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered from their price fix menu. The food came out quickly and the portions were large and very tasty. We both enjoyed the bread. The dessert was not to our liking. I will definitely go back and try some of the other dishes.
I've been to the Faz restaurants in San Francisco and Danville and liked them very much.
This experience was a world apart - service was attentive and pleasant, but menu choices
were disappointing at best. The filet kabobs were dry and served with white rice that had
some orange oil (ala movie popcorn) on top, and chewy meat. There is no exterior sign on the building, so the location was confusing, and no valet parking in downtown Oakland. The beet and burrata salad was smothered with alfalfa sprouts and bland. Apparently the various locations are dramatically different-too bad.
Highly disappointed, as long-time frequenter. I don't come here for the excellent food or top-notch service, but for its convenience. However, this time, the food was downright awful as was the service. Let me be clear that the servers and hostess are friendly and sweet, but no wonder they hardly have any business. Today, I ordered something that wasn't available so he offered to substitute it with the filet mignon kabob. My lunch companion ordered a cheeseburger. Neither of us were asked how we wanted the beef cooked, but I naively thought that a kitchen of any kind would know that filet mignon MUST NOT BE OVERCOOKED. The food came and I could barely cut or chew my filet, which was more overcooked than any beef I've ever had -- it was dark brown and grey. My friend's burger was completely grey inside as well. And with only 3 tables of parties of 2 in the entire restaurant, we still had to wait a good 20 minutes for our check (server just disappeared), then another 10 minutes for our processed bill for signing. I hate to criticize them b/c I want to support them, but it was just an awful experience from the grey, overcooked, and inedible filet to the lack of service / long wait, even though we were seriously 1 of 3 tables of 2 in the entire place. They need to start asking how clients want their beef prepared, and speeding up the check process given everyone is there on business lunches and need to get back to work.
